I overheard Julie ask my photographer if my make-up looked ok and was so impressed by her professionalism and thoughtfulness to make sure I'd photograph well. I hope this will help you make an informed decision about getting services at Salon Ori…read more Here we go: I met with Anne Magnuson for a haircut, liked her and the cut, and went back for a partial balayage ($180 after automatic gratuity) to achieve a pale pink color (see photo). The result was a slightly darker color than this, but I liked it. I've had many color jobs in my life--permanent, semi- & demi-permanent, henna, color depositing conditioners. I didn't touch my hair for 48 hours, and then rinsed it with water as cold as I could tolerate. Immediately, there was noticeable fade. Over the next 9 days, I washed it a couple times with cool water and color-safe products I'd used with previous color jobs. All the pink left, leaving a mix of gold/yellow/bleached color and my natural, salt and pepper (see photos). Even the Punky Color brand of depositing conditioner lasts longer. I reached out to Anne. Her first recommendation was to come in and pay for a glossing service ($90 before automatic gratuity). It was 11 days after the dye job. She blamed my products. I sent her photos of the ingredient lists, she didn't comment. I asked for a recommendation of a product I could put in myself. She recommended some shampoo/conditioner and a color-depositing product that wasn't available. I let her know, and asked her how long she had expected the color to last anyway. She made another recommendation, and didn't respond to my question. At this point, it was clear she was only interested in recommending additional purchases, and was ignoring my questions about how the dye she put in my hair was expected to function. She blamed my color-safe products, but wouldn't support this with any comment on the ingredient lists I sent. I had actually told her what I use for color-safe shampoo at our appointment, and her only comment was "I didn't know they (the company) made that." Nothing else. No suggestion of any specific products. So, I reiterate to her: 1) After 48 hours, noticeable fade started after just rinsing with cold water; 2) Did she see any red flags in the ingredient lists? 3) How long was the color product she used supposed to last anyway? Her response: politely telling me she won't work with me anymore. And again, no response to these reasonable questions. I reached out to the owner, who tells me "I'm sorry you were disappointed" and that she stands by Anne and also "as she is an independent stylist, I don't get involved in her business." Wow! So, if you're going to book a service at Salon Ori, be careful! If it doesn't go right, chances are they will not address your questions, they'll just want you to buy more stuff, and then tell you in polite terms to **** off. Now I'm going to go put a Moroccan Oil product in my hair--I should have done that in the first place.

They feature local artists each month to decorate the space and have lots of lovely plants in their big, sunny window. Their online scheduling system is easy to use and both stylists I've been to (Jen and Betsy) have done a great job understanding my requests and providing their own expertise to make sure my hair turns out great.

Update,.... a year and a half since my review and I'm back... I did the big change to short Hair…read more Happy as a clam... then went back again today. I'm still very Impressed and love my hair cut and the whole experience! Scott worked with me to get it the right length, etc. totally stress free.... so glad I found him. Let's start with that I loath going to spas and beauticians. There are often terrible smells of carcinogenic chemicals (ammonia, acetone, etc). Add to that they are noisy and crowded. Scott Millers Studio is the opposite of most places. No bad smells, one chair and personal attention. Add to that hair artistry. I came in with long straggly hair.... ithad been 2-3 years since my last hair cut. My hair really needed to be styled and yet it needed to be something I could duplicate, and I needed a new look (no more earth mother braid). Scott got it right away, worked with me and gave me a cut I could manage and that was becoming. No more braid . I am grateful for his patience and artistry. Highly recommended.
