The Short Version: This review is exclusively for their…read moremochi which I got as takeout, lol. It was pretty good. Note it's Chinese-style mochi and not Japanese-style mochi. The Long Version: I love mochi. Like it's one of my favourite desserts. So when I saw that Fondue Haidilao had an UberEats deal for BOGO (buy one get one free) mochi, I had to check it out. Especially since our hotel was just around the corner. My husband does not enjoy hotpot and I'm uncertain how I feel about takeout hotpot anyway, so I just got the mochi, lol. It was $3.95 for 2 orders (since it was BOGO). Each order contains 3 pieces, so I got 6 pieces. They are small but still very reasonable for the price, especially BOGO. I ordered on the app and picked up. Pick-up was quick and smooth. Staff were courteous. The mochi were soft and chewy. They had finely grated coconut on the outside and custard on the inside. The custard was unfortunately not creamy but rather it had a more starchy consistency, a bit different from what I was expecting, but it was still ok. Note that since Haidilao is a Chinese chain, the mochi is Chinese-style not Japanese-style. I would love to try the hotpot at Haidilao one day. Maybe when my mom and I return for another mother-daughter trip to Montreal since the hubster does not like hotpot. Street parking only. Review #69 (2025)

Our server lily was the best! Very attentive and quick and helpful. My first time going to this…read moreplace and I was so impressed. Their menu is so diverse, the portions big, everything is flavourful and filling, they pay attention to all the details. From the moment you step in to the end of your meal, it's an experience. They give you an apron so you don't stain your clothes, they provide plenty of napkins and utensils, they pass by multiple times to clear your table and dirty dishes, they give you a hair tie so your hair doesn't get in your food. It's a fun time! There's music, or a noodle pull guy, or sometimes a dancer! They've really got it all. Make sure to réservé because this place is in high demand and it is impossible to get a table last minute if you are a big group. I got the sukiyaki soup base which is soy and onions. It was really good! Bot spicy at all and paired well with the lamb, beef, and pork we ordered. Also got some corn and it was so juicy and sweet! You can still order noodles and not pay the extra for the employee to pull them in front of you, they are still fresh and taste delicious. I don't find it too expensive considering I ate almost as if it was an all you can eat and the price was the same but you're getting better service and quality of food.

AYCE hot pot in downtown Montreal. It's just a few minutes walk from the Lucille L'Allier station…read more People seem to be confused with the pricing. You have to pay the AYCE price per person + price for the soup base. So for two adults on weekday dinner, it was $33.95pp + $18.95 for half & half (2-flavor) broth. All you can drink (AYCD) option is an additional $3.95. This is in their menu, which is extensive and very very long. They should really print it out for each table rather than having it online. You have to scan the QR code at the table to access the menu. For making customers scan a QR code to access the menu, they should offer free WiFi. Veggies and meats are ordered through your server. There were a couple items I asked for but never came. Quality of meat in general was good. The tofu I got might have turned sour. I liked that they had lotus root, tofu skin, quail egg, and Napa cabbage. I also learned what is "chest deckle" because I was caught by surprise when the dish came out. There is a cat robot that delivers the dishes to your table! Other hot foods and desserts are self-served next to the sauce bar. The menu also lists how to make some popular sauces. Service is ok. You have to pay at the cashier in the back corner. I was here after 20:00 on a weeknight, and there was no wait. They had a promotion going on if the weather is greater than 28°C. You get a carafe of juice for the table as well as coupons for a free soup base for next visit (expires end of the month). Credit card/apple pay accepted No WiFi Bathroom available

Visited today visit our friends. I know this hotpot came from Scarborough…read more The taste is very good. They have multiple pot and flavour to combine with. Longer the pot brews, spicier it can be. For the price, it's average. $40 per person. Some ingredients you have to pay to have. They have free soup on the counter.

Hotpot Nine (Lao Jiu Men in Chinese) is replacing a Chinese restaurant that was previously there…read more This place is still in its soft opening, and so was offering 15% off. They are still figuring a few things out. For instance the vestiaire is not available for customers just yet (only staff), but it might be in the future (which would be amazing to avoid coats smelling like hot pot for the next 3 days). The place it not that big, but they managed to arrange quite a few tables in there. And it's already popular! It was pretty much full on both nights I was there. There are large and small pots. Large pots are shared between diners of a given table, as it is usually the case in China. Small pots (individual pots) give more freedom as to which base soup you want, although large pots allow a maximum of 3 different soups! The induction cookers were powerful, and the simple electronic pads at each table enabled to easily control boiling. There's quite a few base soups available. So far I tried the "traditional spicy soupe", "health mushroom soupe", "original bone soupe" and "nourishing health chicken soupe" (the English names might be a bit puzzling, but they were all tasty). The heat level of the spicy soup was also quite satisfying for us Sichuanese. It is all you can eat, at about 25$ per person. The base soup costs extra, and so do drinks and some select items (e.g. duck blood, beef tongue, etc.). The choice of food items if not the most diverse, but covers most essentials. The main attraction remains meat, in this case AA+ beef and lamb. The mashed shrimp (pureed shrimp that boils into a shimp meatball) was also very popular. Soups and food came fairly fast, and was very nicely displayed. Some items were forgotten on both of my visits, but it didn't affect the overall experience. There's two self-serve stations, one for ready to eats (spring rolls, fried fish (?), oranges, fried buns, etc.) and one for sauces. The sauce station had everything I needed, but was quite messy and in need of replenishing. I also wished the oil would be sesame oil instead of vegetable (?) oil. Ladles and strainers can be found on the shelf under the sauce station. Overall, the taste was excellent, and there was a lot of efforts and good attitude from the staff. The place was still a bit messy and chaotic, and the air was a bit stuffy, given all the steam that is produced. But then again, it's arguably part of an old school hot pot experience!

The servers were very friendly and attentive, and the food was super fresh and great fun to eat, since you cook it yourself by dipping it in a bowl of simmering broth heated over an individual induction burner. Our meal consisted of plates of thinly sliced meats--beef, pork, and lamb, along with an array of vegetables and noodles, dipping sauces and condiments, all washed down with cold Japanese beer. The prix fixe meal included a dessert of macha ice cream and mochi with honey sauce, a great way to end the meal.

We arrived early, but without a reservation. The staff was able to fit us in but you should definitely have a reservation if you plan to eat dinner here as they fill up quickly. I had the spicy hot pot with beef, and it was everything I remembered. My wife was less impressed with her more "plain" broth, but I could see where some people would prefer it. We were in and out in about an hour, which is lightning fast for a hot pot restaurant. You're most likely looking to spend at least $50 CAD per person with food and a drink, but it is well worth it in my opinion. I'll be back next time I'm in the area.
