Well i have been in the waiting room 1 hour past my schedled appt. Seems the norm for this practice

I did have to wait in the waiting room for 30-45 minutes before my oral surgery. But once I got in, it went great. I was fine after the surgery, and only needed pain medicine that night. The following day there was zero pain. The doctor was very nice and had good vibes. Before this, I went to a terrible oral surgeon and that doctor was condescending and refused me anesthesia and turned me away. I had a lot of anxiety following that experience, but Dr. Martey regained my trust. The day I was turned away by a different doctor, I had already had the numbing shots into my gum. Later that day I couldn't open my mouth or chew, all from numbing shots, no surgery was preformed. After my surgery with Dr. Martey, my mouth had more moving ability and I could eat than my experience wit the last doctor. I think that goes to show the quality of his work. A terrible oral surgeon messed up my mouth from just numbing shots, while Dr. Martey gave me anesthesia, numbing shots and took a wisdom tooth out and left me in less pain. I highly recommend Dr. Martey. I understand many complained of waiting in the waiting room, but I honestly can't think of a time I have been to a doctor and not had to wait forever. It seems to be the nature of the profession. read more

I had my top two wisdom teeth removed this afternoon. Dr. Martey and his staff ensured that I was comfortable throughout the procedure. The office is kept chilly as a preventative measure to keep bacteria at bay, so I was offered a blanket. Dr. Martey had a gentle hand when starting my IV and I was awoken gently after the procedure was completed with conversation. It has been about 8 hours and I have very minimal discomfort and do not need to take the prescribed painkillers. I am very satisfied with my experience and would gladly recommend Dr. Martey to anyone for extractions. He seems to be a no- nonsense kind of guy and I appreciate that as well. read more

I left a not so good review several weeks ago referring to how Trish was the absolute worst and it has been brought to my attention that I mixed up the receptionist that day so this is my apologie to whomever. I feel bad if Trish is not the person who was extremely unprofessional however the Dr should know that the person I am referring to in the first review is a Hispanic girl in her mid-late 20s I will be visiting the office to apologise in person as well to makensure that the person who was very unkind knows that a little bit of communication and compassion goes a long way. I live across the country and needed to find an Oral Surgeon to see a family member of mine that lives in Humboldt County. I called the office an the staff listened to my needs and told me what information they needed to see a patient in their office. I was able to get my family member seen as soon as possible. I am grateful for the excellent care Dr. Martey and his staff provided to me and my family. I hope everyone has a great experience here like we did. read more

Avoid this oral surgeon at all costs. I had to have all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed and both bottom ones were impacted. First, Dr. Marty gave me too much anesthesia during my surgery and had trouble waking me up. After I finally did wake up, I was so incredibly dizzy I could not walk on my own. He even admitted to me after I woke up that he'd had trouble waking me up so he knew he messed up. Second, I do not think he was gentle enough when removing my teeth as I have permanent TMJ problems now that will likely never go away. My jaw clicks on the right side and I have pain when I chew a lot of the time. I was also unable to go to the dentist for a few years just to get a teeth cleaning due to my TMJ and not being able to open my mouth wide enough, which was never a problem before as I used to get regular teeth cleanings every 6 months for my entire life before the wisdom teeth removal. I would look elsewhere if you really need to get your wisdom teeth removed. read more

I had a molar fractured in several places. There was also an abscess beneath the tooth. After several shots of anesthetic, Dr. Martey pulled out a very painful tooth in about 10 minutes. I recommend this dentist. read more

I was referred to Dr Martey for an extraction. I called the office and explained I was in a lot of pain, and was scheduled very quickly. The office staff was excellent in preparing me for the appointment. The morning of the appointment j filled out the necessary paperwork and was immediately taken back to begin. It was a pleasant surprise to not have to wait in the waiting room at all! I found Dr Martey himself to be very kind, very fast, and very thorough. He explained each quick step as he was about to perform them so I could be prepared. Post-op instructions were explained verbally to me by an assistant, as well as given in written handouts. My prescriptions were written/sent to the pharmacy before I left the office. I am very happy with Dr Martey and his team. read more

Please no one go to Dr Marty! If you need oral surgery drive out of Humboldt County, he is not worth your time! His receptionists are rude inconsiderate and not helpful at all! They take forever to call you back! Trish is the office receptionist that I always end up taking to, she should not be employed where she has to communicate with people!!!! She is short with you and does not answer your questions. Trish really made me feel like they didn't need to be nice to me because they will get more patients because they are the only place in Humboldt county. They only take two kinds of insurance and will not work with you if you don't have one of those two kinds! Because they are the only oral surgeon in the area they feel entitled and can treat their customers like s***. Trust me I know that you probably want to save time and just go to him, do not do it!!!!!!! My dentist told me to go to a guy in Redding because they don't like sending their patients to Dr Marty. I was in 2 days ago to have 2 molars extracted. One molar was severely abscessed and the other was black with so much decay. I was very scared and not looking forward to my visit. When I walked into the office the secretary was straight forward, but not rude in anyway. She had a smile on her face and she let me know everything to fill out and how much the visit would be. I was in the waiting room maximum of 10 minutes maybe. The nurse called me back, Dr. Martey came in and informed me the 2 teeth they would be pulling. I agreed and they then administered my I.V which I didn't feel a thing. I woke up, minimal pain, 2 days later I have tolerable pain, not needing pain meds as much. I can't thank Dr. Martey's office enough. If I ever have to go back I know I wont be scared, he was wonderful and kind and the work was over and done before I knew it. Dr. Martey is actually wonderful - his staff, awful Disrespectful, bitchy, incompetent. Horrible experience with the staff - Received a referral from my daughters dentist for a wisdom teeth extraction. Called & made the appointment & was given a date several weeks away. (which is typical) However, when that date approached, I realized I would need to reschedule due to a conflict. I called a week in advance to change the date & was actually yelled at for cancelling the original appointment and asking to be rescheduled. I was told that "this is the 3rd time you have done this & if you do it again, we will refuse service" - fabrication. I had not rescheduled 3 times??? I'm not even sure where she got that info or why she said that! But it was definitely unnerving. They also told me that my out of pocket was going to be $900 & they would collect that upfront. Once we actually went for the appointment, they had determined that they would only be able to extract three teeth, not four. They had had the x-rays from her dentist for weeks, so they knew in advance that they were only going to be able to extract three teeth. They had based the cost on extracting all four - when I asked if this would change the amount that they wanted me to pay that day, they said no. They still wanted the full $900 & they would figure it all out "later". When my daughter experienced complications after surgery, I called the office & was treated horribly. They inferred that we were just over reacting & did they not take her pain seriously. I insisted that she be seen, and they finally complied, but were cold & acted irritated that they needed to accommodate her. AND it did end up that they had overcharged me by almost $500! When I got the insurance report back from our company, I called asking for my refund & was put off, being told "the woman who handles that isn't here, she'll have to call you back". Never called. And when I finally got the refund check, several weeks later, they made the check out in my OTHER daughters name!? And she has not been in that office since 2006!!!! When I called regarding this issue, I was given a weird excuse & they tried to make it MY fault! I'm not even sure how they were justifying this mistake, but they sure tired. Never even apologized. As I said, the Dr., wonderful - his staff, an embarrassment to him. I actually feel sorry for Dr. Martey because these woman are giving his practice a bad name. read more

The Dr. himself is very good, unfortunately his staff is terrible. YMMV- but our experience here was not good. We were given a post-op care instruction sheet and a 5 minute rundown of instructions and sent on our way after surgery. Calls for additional instruction and to discuss complications were met with skepticism and ridicule for "not following the instructions on the sheet" whether the specific information was on the sheet or not. The staff was willing to check with the doctor to see if alternative brands of medication were available that would be covered by insurance only after 25 minutes of pleading and frustration. Different staff members would provide conflicting advice on how to handle problems that arose. I called to discuss the issues we were having with the doctor himself, but the staff would not even pass along the message because I wouldn't tell them the details of what I wanted to talk to him about. It is too bad, we did manage to get a hold of the doctor once (after hours) and he was very helpful and compassionate, and I very much doubt that this is the type of service he wants his office to provide. If you are the perfect patient that reacts to treatment in exactly the way this office expects and don't mind being patronized and ridiculed when questions arise or additional help is needed, this might be the office for you. After having my wisdom teeth extracted in 2013 by Dr. Martey, I still no longer have normal feeling in a majority of the lower right portion of my face. I met with him to discuss my concerns, but all he had to tell me was that 2/3 of his patients report similar problems. My IV was also done incorrectly, which left my right arm feeling weak and bruised for multiple days after surgery. To make things worse, my case was supposed to be incredibly simple (not impacted, infected, etc.) in comparison to others, and was completed in less than 25 minutes. Dr. Martey doesn't hold himself accountable to his own mistakes, and attempts to make his patients feel like their permanent discomfort is "normal". I wouldn't recommend Hitler to have his teeth extracted from Dr. Martey. read more

My experience with Dr Martey was through Dr Tipton, whom I also heartily recommend, As part of an "attached denture" procedure, Dr Martey removed teeth, bridges, and made 4 implants in one visit. On another occasion he removed an "obtrusion" from my lower jaw (no charge) during a routine check up, as a convenience to me. I was provided explanations as well as detailed cost estimates throughout the entire process. I was pleasantly surprised how "fairly" painless he was able to make the whole procedure. I would whole heartily recommend Dr Martey and his staff to any one needing oral surgery. His office tends to be very busy, may take a moment for receptionist to tend to you but I've never had any problems. He also has a really cool model train! read more

I was hesitant to have my son's wisdom teeth removed at this practice after reading the reviews but decided to go ahead anyway. The experience was 100% positive. We had a bit of a wait but that seems to be the norm at most doctors offices these days. Dr Martey was personable and did a great job. My son had next to no pain following his extraction and at day 3 post extraction has only taken ibuprofen once. Dr Martey's staff was kind and helpful and called the following day to check in. I would have no reservations about recommending Dr Martey based on our experience at his practice. read more

I can honestly say that the reviews I read about Dr. Martey and his practice quite literally were giving me nightmares about going in and getting my wisdom teeth removed. I am terrified of going under anesthesia and I am terrified of the dentist in general, so I was very nervous. I considered going to somewhere like Redding or even Oregon but my wisdom teeth were really killing me and they were able to get me in due to a cancellation a week after I called. I'm very happy to say that I had a fantastic experience; well, as fantastic as getting your teeth pulled out can be. Everyone including Dr. Martey were very pleasant to talk to, did not make me feel uncomfortable whatsoever, answered any questions I had, and the procedure was over in about 45 minutes. He was very clear about my medications and follow up care and he seemed to genuinely care about his patients. He knows what he is doing and is confident in his practice. I completely understand that everyone's experience is different and that some were not so good, and that truly sucks, but don't let a couple of these reviews deter you from seeing him. If you need to get your wisdom teeth out or anything else, I would definitely recommend him. read more

I was nervous after seeing the other reviews. I got right in, dr walked in, he explained what would happen, they gave me a mask and IV. Felt like no time, I woke up and she explained which medicine to take, and how often, as well as what food to eat. Overall, the lady at the front desk, the nurse, and doctor were all very kind, and I have no complaints. read more

I was so scared to go to Dr. Marteyafter reading his reviews. I think people are really doing him and his office an injustice by reviewing him the way they have. His office is small, but with a warm aesthetic. His staff is all really kind, and he himself is a really great oral surgeon. He was very nice to me, even with my extreme anxiety and reassured me at every step. They went to great lengths to make sure I was comfortable, and gave detailed follow up instructions. He was extremely skilled at inserting the IV, and inspired great confidence!! He is a wonderful oral surgeon, and I really feel like he has been greatly misrepresented. Initial x-ray and evaluation apt for exaction of wisdom teem: Calling to place the apt after being referred there by main dentist included repeat calls as they looked up our discount plan wrong repeatedly as "expired insurance coverage," before informing us that they did not accept discount plans (*see later paragraph regarding this!). Insufficient, dangerous parking lot and undersized waiting room packed with people did not make a good second impression. Paid full $275 in advance. The 30 minute wait resulted in the xray and a 5 min "evaluation" consisting of "you should have had them out in your teens," the possible risks of permanent numbness in the face and mouth, and no eating 6-8hrs prior to extraction. Extraction apt: Got the first apt of the day, arrived early and were made to park in the back, paid full $2165, and was taken into the room on time and left there alone for 30min. Didn't even see the surgeon until shortly before being given gas, and wasn't spoken to. While I was under, the receptionist tried to give the post-op information to the wrong person in the office, telling it to an elderly man taking his wife in for a far simpler procedure before a name alerted both my mom and the man that a switch-up had been made. When I came to, I was "checked out" into my mom's care by an assistant--who again rarely addressed me and said I may not even remember this. I remembered everything just fine. No bedside manner at all. She provided the 3 prescriptions (antibiotic 1/6hrs, pain med 1-2/4-6hrs, and an anti-nausea which I did not need but they insisted on anyways), stated to change the cotton over the open pits every 20min, ice face 20min a time on first day and heating pad 20min on days thereafter, rinse with warm salt water 4x/day staring day 2, and liquid/mush diet with no straws. Apparently no stitches were put in and bleeding kept up for hours. Pain was *extreme* even with ice, heat, and taking pain med 2/4hrs so ran through prescription in 2.5 days--and I have a high pain tolerance. The facial swelling at this point was also rather severe. When called about the issue, we got "oh, weren't you taking ibuprofen?" Since we weren't told it was even an option and not wanting to mix meds, the answer was no. They refused to write the directions for taking the 2 together but dictated the directions to my mother when she picked up the extended prescription (as I was unable to speak clearly or above a whisper): alternate 3 ibuprofen/2 pain-med at 3hr intervals--which made us rather nervous, but was more effective and took down the extreme swelling over the next several days. Follow-up apt: One week after extraction and at end of anti-biotic and pain meds, the follow-up apt was a mere 15min spent with one of the assistants showing me how to irrigate the lower jaw open sockets with a syringe-fulls of warm salt water--nothing was said of cleaning the upper ones--and that I was to do so for 4-8 weeks, and to avoid chips, nuts, and seeds. She also provided a third different pain-med plan when she asked about how it'd gone after the exaction and I informed her about the severe pain. Her demonstration caused pain for the rest of the day and resulted in some bleeding. No other information was provided, i.e. nothing said as to length of time to avoid crunchy foods, etc. This did nothing to reassure me to the quality of care. I still 2 weeks later have 3 numb patches on the inside of mouth and cannot chew at all on one side without pain. ***looking up the surgeon on our discount plan today 2 weeks after the extraction, it turns out they are registered as accepting our plan. They lied to avoid providing the 15-50% discount and we have reported them to our provider. Our provider is investigating them now. We will be avoiding this office from now on for many reasons. read more

over priced rip off worst oral surgery office. have $1000.00 dental coverage told office we would not pay more than the coverage. went in for 2 teeth and 4 were pulled. was charged for extra teeth. told office we know what our coverage is and told them nothing more can be done and wouldn't pay anything more. I work in billing/collections and know the state rules/guidelines. i fought with them for over a month to get these teeth written off since they knew our coverage etc and they said it was a courtesy he pulled them. they finally gave us our money back since we over paid up front and it took 2 months. now we need our records and xrays to go to redding and they say it takes over 1 month for the Dr. to write up the notes and review them. our procedure was 1.5 years ago the notes should be done. again I work in a medical office and by state law records are the patients rights with in1 week. u have to threaten this office with a lawyer before they do anything. also been told that return checks bounce when patients cash them. GO TO REDDING STAY AWAY FROM THIS OFFICE read more
