I was referred to Dr. Rustin West by a new dentist who saw me on an emergency basis and said I need a root canal and crown. Roughly 15 years ago my fantastic dentist retired and the new guy on first exam said I needed a crown, the tooth was fractured. I doubted it as my retired dentist was excellent and explained the pain I had on occasion from night grinding and gave me coping techniques and I wasn't having trouble. Fast forward, had pain overnight and saw new dentist on emergency basis. She was confident that I needed a root canal and crown, I was not. Reluctantly saw Dr. West for root canal. He did an exam and X-rays. While he agreed that the tooth is highly likely to need intervention in the future, he said that it was not necessary to do it now as it was okay and reacting normally. He patiently explained what my retired dentist had dsaid decades ago. He noted that eventually the large fillings and heavily used molar would end uup needing a crown. Due to my other health issues, infection risk is high and he patiently went oover various options with me carefully considering my overall health, my comfort level with a bbrand new dentist for the crown, my need to travel soon as well as the issues with the tooth. I left without a root canal but highly confident in my plan to initiate the procedure with Dr. West in the future before I have major issues. It was the best experience I could hope for because I am now fully confident in my choice of endodontist and my plan for future work. Dr. West demonstrated an immediate command of my situation and my complicated blood cancer and treatments. I highly recommend him. read more
