I had been a patient of Dr. Harris at Premier Dental for more than 15 years and had always trusted the care I received. Unfortunately, my experience after his departure has been extremely disappointing. About three weeks ago, I went in for a routine cleaning with absolutely no tooth pain or sensitivity. The new dentist Dr. Cartwright identified an issue involving a lower-left tooth and recommended what was described to me as a simple filling. The procedure itself was painful. I was told that some discomfort could last one to four weeks, but instead of improving, the pain and sensitivity progressively became worse--to the point that I could not sleep without taking pain medication. I contacted Premier Dental asking to have the tooth evaluated and to get a second opinion. I was told that Dr. Cartwright was on vacation and that the other dentist was booked for more than a month. Despite explaining that I was experiencing significant pain and had been a patient of the practice for over 15 years, I was directed to seek care elsewhere. I went to Smile Design Dental, where I was told there were chips in the filling and an infection. I was prescribed antibiotics and informed that I now need a root canal because the nerve has been affected. What makes this especially upsetting is that this tooth had no pain or sensitivity before the filling. I went in for routine care and agreed to what I understood would be a simple procedure. Three weeks later, I am dealing with significant pain, infection, antibiotics, a recommended root canal, and additional expense. I understand that complications can occur with any dental procedure. What disappoints me most is how the situation was handled afterward. After being a loyal patient for more than 15 years, I expected Premier Dental to make an effort to evaluate a serious problem that developed following treatment performed at their office. I hope Premier Dental reviews what happened and takes appropriate steps to improve both patient follow-up and continuity of care when complications occur. read more

I'm uniquely qualified to review both Dr. Cartwright and Dr. Rega due to the nightmare experience I had at this practice, and I wish I wasn't. I came in with a simple missing filling on a back molar that had been visibly patched with a temporary filling that was impossible to miss. Dr. Cartwright ignored it entirely, built a treatment plan for the wrong tooth, and placed a temporary crown on it. When I caught her mistake myself, she offered no apology. Her exact response: "the treatment plans would've been the same anyway." Even more telling, she had explicitly told me the tooth couldn't be filled and needed a crown. Yet the moment she was caught treating the wrong tooth, she filled it on the spot. The same tooth that supposedly couldn't be filled was suddenly fillable once she was caught? Odd. Getting anyone here to take responsibility was its own battle. The practice manager was beyond dismissive and argumentative. It took a third party calling on my behalf and threatening legal action before another dentist at the practice acknowledged that the tooth with the missing filling should have been treated first. Dr. Cartwright never once apologized. A refund was finally issued for my portion of the crown which seemed less an act of accountability and more an attempt to make me quietly disappear. Then came Dr. Rega who completed the permanent crown. During placement, while I was numb and unable to speak up for myself, a cusp was ground down to adjust the fit. My bite changed immediately afterward. When I returned in genuine pain, because the tooth now felt too low, she told me I would "get used to it," that "we can't add tooth structure back", refused to consider remaking the crown when I asked, and instead began grinding down healthy teeth on the opposite side of my mouth, which I explicitly told her I was fearful of having been in braces for 3 years and knowing that side was "perfect". At one point my teeth were audibly grinding together during her adjustments and she told me to "Stop making that noise". I was there because she had altered my bite and she seemed annoyed that I could tell. She was out of her depth and chose dismissal over help or a referral. I experience daily discomfort that didn't exist before what should've been a routine filling. Months later I'm still in treatment with multiple specialists correcting damage from this office. I will be reporting both Dr. Cartwright and Dr. Rega, as well as this practice, to the Missouri Dental Board due to the abysmal care I received here. Please please learn from my experience and look elsewhere. read more

NO ONE CALLS BACK! Me and my family has been patient for several years with Dr. Rega's office in Ofallon. This is the first time I I've had this much miscommunication. I have been inquiring about the bridge for my teeth since before Christmas. I am still waiting on a call back of the cost. I have reached out to the practice manager. She did not even bother to call me back about my concerns. A couple of the girls call me back from the Office said that they were gonna keep in touch with me and let me know. I've heard nothing! It is extremely frustrating when you are in customer service yourself and run an office and know how it should go, especially when you reached out to the practice manager. Me and my family have decided to sever our ties here. Which is unfortunate because who really wants to start all over at another dentist practice, but I will not be treated in this way... this makes me feel very unimportant to this office and that they are not really trying to help me. So for that, I'll just take my business somewhere else. No communication in the office. The practice manager does not return phone calls no matter what the concern is. I've reached out to her twice.. This was very upsetting. And it makes you wonder does Dr. Rega even have a concern here. Some people are valued here in some or not. I'm not sure what is the case here but clearly me and my family are not. read more

I have had two appointments in the last month. First one was to cap a tooth and 3 fillings. Second visit, that was today, finished cap procedure and one filing on the other side of my mouth. I can't say enough great things about the office staff, the dentist hygienist, or Dr. Harris. Very professional, caring and always concerned that you were comfortable during the whole procedure. I have been using this practice for almost 20 years. Everyone one in my immediate family goes to this practice. Dr. Harris tries to make sure he is finished within the time allowed and he is very good at managing the time it takes to do your procedure. I highly recommend this Dentist, and this practice. Also, the front desk receptionist and all other clerical support is amazing. read more

Be careful, you may end up with a debt collector calling you to collect on a bill in your name, but he dentist office isn't allowed to talk to you about what it is for, and the collection agency just knows the amount. Well at least this is what I have been going through. Through my own research and multiple hours of calling people I kind of figured out on my own why a debt collector is calling me. My wife and I took all of our kids to this dentist about 14 months ago. We asked them if they take our insurance and they said "yes". This was technically correct, because they will take ANY insurance, but that doesn't mean they are in network, and is a lie. I haven't had to pay out of pocket for any visits to ANY other dentist for over 18 years, but since this dentist decided to pretty much lie to me I now have to deal with a debt collector, for a debt I can only guess what it is for. The best thing about this whole issue is I have a debt collector calling me on behalf of Premier Dental for a charge in MY name, but when I call the dentist office they tell me they are not allowed to talk to me about this issue for different reason everytime. First they couldn't talk to me because the debt was with a collection agency, then because I'm not on the release of information, then they said to have my wife call to give permission to talk to me (which she did and I still haven't been able to address this issue). I am on all of my kids' and wife's release of information paperwork and we verified with the dentist PRIOR to getting anything done that we would be covered by our insurance. Not sure how this is even legal. Basically this dentist: 1. Lies to you about taking insurance, in order to steal your money. 2. Sends debts to a debt collector in your name but can't talk to you about them. 3. Doesn't return phone calls. 4. Doesn't file paperwork correctly. 5. Only cares about making money and not the patient. I had a wonderful experience at Cardinal Dental (who did what Premier Dental should have, they told me they were out of network and if I did any work it would have cost me $ out of my own pocket BEFORE any service was done) and Midrivers Dental (who did work on all 5 in my family and it cost me $0 because it all was paid for by my insurance). Go to one of those two Dentist instead of here. read more

There is no other dentist I would rather go to than Dr. Harris. I had dealt with several bad experiences with past dentists, and I no longer have a fear of getting dental work done since going to Dr. Harris. The staff are great, and they get you in fast for emergency dental. I especially love how the office opens up early. It makes it convenient to get my dental work done, and then start my workday on time. read more

The dentist and assistant Stacy are both amazing. That being said . . . I changed jobs and got new insurance. I called the office prior to my visit to make sure that my insurance was going to be accepted. They assured me it was. When I got to the actual appointment, I gave the receptionist my insurance card before my appointment and asked for it back when it was done. I assumed that she entered it into the system and that I was good to go. A month later, I get a call from their billing department, asking me for my insurance info. I gave it to them, and again they assured me it was accepted (the card needed to have the numbers "100/200/300"- which mine did). A few weeks later I get a FULL BILL from them for $143. I would not recommend them to anyone now because of this. Their staff told me two times that my insurance was accepted, and even had a chance to double check while I was in the office and DID NOT. Their negligence now leaves me on the hook for the entire bill with threats to be sent to a collections agency. read more

We only have experience with one doctor and it was not good. Just a word of caution for any patient. Get second opinion if they advise you of any procedure including filling. You will be surprised to find out that your teeth are actually better than what they tell you. read more
