My daughter arrived on the morning of my 26th birthday!! forever grateful

I want to thank Nancy McMillen-Torres, CPM for all of her incredible support during my birth. Having a natural birth at a birth center was so important to me and Nancy made sure to support me on that all the way through!! When I was 10cm dilated & water hadn't broken and I was ready to throw in the towel, Nancy guided me into the birthing tub where my water broke and baby was ready to come! Nancy made me feel safe and cared for. While being empathetic, she made me feel strong and ready to deliver this baby! I am so grateful for her and the nurse she had with her during my delivery. They made one heck of a team! Nancy truly went above and beyond! She definitely loves what she does, and I'm so grateful she's sharing her gifts with the world! I am so glad I transferred from hospital setting to birth center setting, and Premier Birth Center Chantilly does a wonderful job to ensure everything else is taken care of so moms can relax and focus on having a successful, healthy baby/birth!

Sharon is an amazing midwife! Sharon & Mayanne were amazing & went above & beyond during labor...

Alanna was our primary midwife so I will mostly speak of her care below. I started out with an OB/midwife practice when I first found I was pregnant and was very unsatisfied with their care. I connected with FHB and was instantly confident that we wanted a home birth with Alanna. She is a perfect balance of medical care/intervention in birth when needed, but also honoring physiological birth at home when safe to do so. She seemed genuinely interested in me, my baby, my questions, and my concerns. She always welcomed my questions and answered without bias or judgement. I never felt pressured to do/not do any kind of testing or procedures. She gave her recommendations and her reasons but fully supported my decisions. She has a calm and confident energy that puts you right at ease. When I got Covid at 38wks and felt reduced fetal movement I called her late at night and she didn't sound the slightest bit frustrated. Instead, she told us to grab some N95 masks and meet her at the office right away for an NST. She guided me on how to manage my symptoms and reassured me that baby was ok. We had a complicated and very long birth and she was by my side offering encouragement from the moment she set foot in our home. I'll skip the details of the birth but long story short we ended up with both Alanna and Story (as well as our fabulous birth assistant and our doula) for the final few hours due to some complications, and they were just incredible. I truly believe that my birth experience would have caused long-term trauma if it weren't for my amazing team. I'm almost certain we'd have had a c-section (or at least forceps delivery) if we were in a hospital setting. The midwives continued to monitor me and baby the whole time and make sure that we were ok and that we were safe to continue a home birth. Their level of skill in their field is impressive. After the birth, despite the fact that she must have been exhausted too, Alanna was smiling and cheerful and just generally warm and friendly and encouraging. I will be forever grateful for her care and can't wait to work with her again if we have another baby in the future. Additionally, Emily in the office was on point. She always responded very quickly with the right answer to any questions we had. Her emails were worded perfectly and she made the entire process smooth for us.

So I just started going to the practice in May and the doctors and staff were nice. My only issue…read morehas been with trying to schedule a surgery procedure. When I left my appointment in June, I was told I would get a call to schedule my procedure. A week went by and I didn't hear from anyone and so I sent a message through the portal and I was told to provide dates for months of when my cycle is and dates that I'm free. So I provided dates for July and August. The person who does the scheduling said they would get back to me. A week went by and I didn't hear anything and I followed up( this was in July) .They told me they set alert with the hospital with my dates and will let me know. Another two weeks went by and i followed up. I have to give advance notice when taking off from my job and I need to have coverage. I sent this message on 07/21 and They did get back to me on 7/23 said they had a single date in August they could do but due to work conflicts I couldn't take off of work to do the procedure. I asked if there is any dates available for September or October. I sent that message on 07/23, I didn't hear back so I followed up again on 08/15 if there were any dates available in November or December. Then today I got a message saying my message couldn't be delivered. I don't know the medical world and so I'm not sure how things are done but I feel like it shouldn't take months to try to just schedule a surgery. Yes I understand the procedure could be months away but just scheduling seems to be a lot. The communication hasn't been great, I get we're all busy and things come up but this has just become frustrating. This experience doesn't make me feel very comfortable having a procedure done with this practice and so I'll be looking for a new office

I put my trust in a relative when choosing this provider so I can have my first child. This…read morebusiness wasn't my first choice, but okay. Firstly, Dr. Pereira is the WORST. I am sorry, but maybe in another line of work, this would have been a better encounter, but this was one of the worst medical professionals I've met in my life. During the prenatal appointments, I was a student in college during this time, trying to get my STEM degree, and I asked her to sign off on a permission form approving that in case anything medical-related to my pregnancy happened while I was attending classes, I was excused. But, NO. Dr. Pereira DID NOT find any reason for me to have my rights as a PREGNANT FEMALE to be excused from academic matters in case of unforeseen events. I TOTALLY felt like I had access to my (academic and medical) rights during that time. (No, not really). Secondly, she was fine with the check-ups, but her personality was cold. When I tried to ask more questions about the baby and the procedures, she shot down my questions very, very quickly, as if I shouldn't be asking anything because I am not a medical profession and so on and so forth. When my boyfriend at the time tried to speak up too, same thing, she shot him down. Did not answer questions well and we both agreed she was just "ehhh." Luckily, I didn't have her for every prenatal appointment (because eventually, I personally asked to not have her), and felt more comforted by Dr. Fisk and Victoria Synder. Thank you both for your help. When my due date was near, I specifically kept making sure with the office that Dr. Pereira would not be the one to deliver my baby. Fortunately, she was not, but here is the worst and the last of her nightmare to me. In the early week of October, I called the tepeyac emergency line to get in hold with a doctor to let them know I was bleeding (letting them know basically should I go to the hospital). Good god, because Dr. Pereira answered, and once I told her about the bleeding, she basically said something along the lines of this: "It's nothing. It's nothing, Just continue getting rest." This did not help and the next day, I almost gave birth in my bathroom. This call was also done at like 10:00 P.M at night. Thank god though, before my contractions were getting really bad the following day, Dr. Fisk answered after I told my boyfriend to call the emergency line from the office again, and he immediately suggested to go to the nearest hospital. So, that's what I did. And, I gave birth to my son so fast, they called it a precipitous labor. I had good moments with this office and some workers, but this worker, Dr. Pereira, was the worst. Thanks to everyone who ACTUALLY helped. My son is alive because of you.

As a first-time dad, I can honestly say Shannon was invaluable -- not just for my wife, but for me too. From the start, she made us feel comfortable, informed, and genuinely prepared for what was ahead. She has this calm, thoughtful, and considerate presence that immediately lowers the temperature in the room. Nothing ever felt rushed or overwhelming because she helped us understand what was happening and what our options were. During labor, Shannon was incredible. She didn't just support my wife -- she supported us as a team. She walked us through next steps, explained the choices being presented, and made sure we felt confident in our decisions. One thing that really stood out to me was how she helped me help my wife. She showed me exercises and techniques I could guide her through to ease labor and keep things progressing. That made me feel involved and useful instead of helpless, which meant a lot. After the birth, Shannon's support didn't stop. She came to our home for a postpartum visit and helped us process the entire experience. She walked us through what to expect physically and emotionally in the days and weeks ahead, what to watch out for, and answered all of our first-time parent questions without judgment. She even helped find us a pump -- such a thoughtful and practical gesture that shows how much she truly cares. Shannon doesn't just provide information -- she provides confidence. As new parents, that's everything. We felt supported, knowledgeable, and empowered every step of the way. We can't recommend her highly enough. If you're considering working with Shannon, you will not regret it.

In November, I was diagnosed with severe preeclampsia and hospitalized. Due to my condition, I had to deliver my baby early via emergency c-section at just over 31 weeks. My baby is currently in the NICU. I wasn't able to have a prenatal in-home visit due to my hospitalization and was given very short notice of my emergency C-section due to my declining health. After my birth, I was put on magnesium, and my baby was sent to the NICU. My husband and I were both so terrified that the last thing I was thinking about was having my doula attend. I was afraid for me and my baby. I reached out to Shannon after my birth and asked if I could cancel the postpartum doula services because of the new financial strain of NICU costs/my hospitalization. She informed me that if I canceled the postpartum doula services, that both contracts would be void, and all services would be considered rendered. Remember, I did not receive a prenatal visit nor birth services due to my medical condition & hospitalization. The contract I signed stated that if the doula wasn't at your birth, you would be entitled to eight hours of postpartum services. Shannon explained that because I paid a 50% deposit on both services, none of the services were paid in full so I would receive nothing else moving forward. Although we had paid $3050 and the birth doula services were $2100, I would need to pay an additional $900 in order to receive the eight hours of postpartum services. She said I could "take it or leave it" and that she would not move money from one contract to another. I was shocked at her response. There was no solution offered where I could receive any services post-birth for the $3050 we had paid. More money had to be paid. This was literally the worst experience of my entire life, and I received no care or compassion at all from Shannon. She maintained that her responsibility was to her staff/business. During our phone call, I was talking about my hospitalization and she mentioned that all of her clients were hospitalized. I clarified that I wasn't hospitalized because I was giving birth. I was hospitalized due to severe preeclampsia and potential organ failure. Trying to work things out with her made a horrible situation even more stressful and terrible. She refuses to budge and maintains that we will not receive any postpartum services if we don't pay extra. My husband and I feel as though we have paid $3050 and have received nothing. We did not receive a prenatal appointment, doula birth services, or any postpartum care. Please see the last email I received from her.

When I went past my due date, Lauren gave me the reassurance and confidence I desperately needed. When I felt hopeless, she gave me hope. Her recommendations and introduction to Faith were invaluable in helping me go into labor. She held space for me to make my own decisions. She had the confidence and experience I needed as I prepared for a VBAC. During labor, she helped me move through different positions to encourage my baby's descent. She provided hands-on support and, when I needed it, tough love. I couldn't have asked for a better person to be there in the moments after the most empowering experience of my life.
