Check prices on accessories before you buy them here. I needed a good alges scraper and the employee hyped up one in particular. It was $40. I was hesitant but went ahead and purchased it. It requires refills but they were out if stock so I checked Amazon, the device was half the price. I visited another local aquarium store and checked their prices and it was the same as Amazon. I felt very taken advantage of. I do buy alot of shrimp from them and those are decently priced and it's a nice variety. read more

I called Premier Aquatics to schedule the take down of my 90 gal salt water reef tank. It was set up 23 years ago by Marine Fish but now is Premier Aquatics. It also had a 125 gal sump system plumbed in the basement. Eric and Cue did an excellent job and got the job done in only 3 hours. Other aquarium companies I called quoted the job for thousands of dollars. They said it would take 6 or more hours. I lucked up going with Premier Aquatics. It was fitting taking the system down. I needed this job to go smoothly and it did. Their work was organized, they did not leave a mess and I am thrilled with what I was charged. Very honest and professional. I cannot say enough good things about these men and I recommend Premier Aquatics Service Department if you need to set up or take down an aquarium system. Call them first. You won't regret it. I don't understand the complaints about customer service at this place! Maybe they were super-busy when the complainers came in? For some reason many retail customers can't wrap their heads around the concept that just because you have to wait your turn, it doesn't mean that the staff doesn't care. I had a great experience! I am a brand fresh water new fish-keeper (still cycling the tank, so I don't even have fish yet), so I had LOTS of questions. Within five minutes of entering the building, I was asked by three different employees if I needed help. Then, a sweet girl named Aspen came over and she was so knowledgeable, patient and very helpful. I can only buy plants and fertilizers right now, but I'll be back when it's finally time for me to add some fish!!! read more

I want to rate this store higher because they do have a lot of higher end products and livestock you can't find elsewhere, but every time I go look at fish lately there have been dead fish in tanks. With so many employees this shop has all trying to help you buy something I do not understand why no one is routinely inspecting the tanks. I know it happens but when its multiple tanks, over multiple trips, its a bad sign. read more

E X P E R I E N C E We're getting into the aquarium game. We are definitely newbies. I already ordered my 5 gal jellyfish tank and my friend ordered a 10 gal freshwater tank. I love all saltwater anything's- corals, pufferfish, sting/manta rays, seahorses. Our tanks are on the way so in the meantime we wanted to take a look at what plants/fish we could put into the little freshwater tank. We knew we weren't going to buy anything, since we plan on cycling our tanks for a month before adding any live anythings. They do sell RO water which I'll need for my marine tank. They don't sell any jellyfish though. The store is honestly a little overwhelming. There's soo much happening in every corner. It's soo beautiful. Im obsessed. Omg there was a huge spiney puffer fish. I need to have it. I'm getting that 200 gal tank. I can't wait until we get more experienced!! I N F E C T I O N P R E V E N T I O N There are signs outside that ask you to wait until employees let you in. I didn't see any hand sanitizer available for the public. All customers/employees were wearing masks and trying to maintain social distancing. S E R V I C E The service here is fantastic. They're like personal shoppers. P R I C E Definitely steeper than your regular stores like petco. But we are also new to the aquarium game so we're not sure what the going prices are. It seems like the items here are more suitable for large tanks. RO water costs 75cents a gal and they can fill up your bucket or you can buy a 5 gal container for $20 or 2.5 for $10. read more

I recently visited after telling myself for months to come and I am beyond impressed with my experience! This store is a paradise for anyone passionate about exotic fish. I'm a guppy & betta lover & this store accommodates my aquatic bouginess LOL! The variety of fish available is simply astounding. From rare species to vibrant, colorful breeds, they have it all. The tanks are well maintained, and you can tell that the fish are well cared for. Some tanks are labeled with information about the plant or fish species, making it easy for both beginners and experienced hobbyists to find what they're looking for. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Although busy tending to each customer & handling new stock they patiently answered all my questions and provided valuable advice on tank setups, fish compatibility, and tank prices. For a first visit I'd rate it well, the only issue there was a lady who came up next to me as I was lost in the madness and information overload, I was unsure if she worked at the store, so I looked at her and was hoping to the lord in heaven she would ask If I needed any help, NOTHING. If I had asked if she worked there, and she didn't I'd be the asshole. Turns out she did. The staff at the store is knowledgeable, friendly, and happy to help. We recently bought a 10 gallon tank to set up as a nano freshwater planted tank for shrimp, small fish, and snails. They have been great as a go-to for questions about plants and my son loves looking at the "king" lionfish and the koi pond out front. I've bought a variety of shrimp species, plants, snails, and chemicals. They had an awesome snail I'd never seen - a batman snail! Last time I was there I bought 2 orange sunkist shrimp, a blue dream, and 2 red rili shrimp. The sunkist and red rilis have done well, so I went back over the weekend to replace the blue dream and of course was tempted to buy more sunkist and also the pinocchio shrimp caught my eye. Unfortunately the replacement blue dream shrimp was dead before we got out of the car and 1/2 of the pinocchio shrimp died within 24 hours of introduction. I called the store and they said it's ok if I don't get them in exactly before the 24 hour mark because I work and can't get there on time. I think the 24 hour policy seems a little strict (they wanted tank water when the shrimp was never introduced to the tank), but I guess some people take advantage of these policies and don't bother to properly establish their tank/introduce new animals. read more

Awesome store with a great, helpful, and knowledgable staff. They really go out of their way to help you out no matter what level of aquarist you are. They are 2 1/2 hours away from us, but we make the drive (passing a LOT of other stores on the way!) because of the service. Both the Saltwater and freshwater selections are great, the tanks well kept, and all the livestock looks healthy. Decent selection of corals, too. Overall prices are a bit higher than some other places, but worth it for the service. read more

Great store with fantastic staff. I love that they do both freshwater and saltwater tanks in the store. Lots of gorgeous, healthy live creatures and plants to choose from. Even the shrimp selection is amazing. Excellent selection of supplies and decor. One of the only places I've found with lots of really good choices in rocks, wood, decor and hardscape. The staff and service are phenomenal. Everyone is nice and always ready to help however they can. I first purchased my first 10 gallon tank at pet supermarket along with a rock with plants the were "self growing". I put everything in the tank and let it cycle for about 2 weeks, when i noticed something was off. little seeds were spread across my tank. i had no idea where they came from, until i realised it was from the stupid rock! i spent HOURS cleaning my tank trying to get all of them out and finaly i did. after this incedent, i went to my grandpa, an expirienced fish and tank keeper, for recomendations on what to do next. He told me about premier aquatics, and the next day i was there! They have great customer service, and there staff is very knowledgable. They have helped me build my tank up from nothing, selling me danios, snails, plants, REAL decor, and a beautiful female half moon betta. i am very pleased with everything they have done for meand i recommend them to anyone that is into the hobby, expirienced or not, and i plan to buy more from them in the near future! Premier aquatics has an amazing selection of freshwater and salt water fish, shrimp, crab, coral, etc. their prices are on the higher side, but it is all worth it in the end when you have a beautiful tank and great staff to assist you! everyone i have ever spoken to there has been nothing but kind and helpful and are always open for questions. anytime i am ready to pick out my items they are always there to scoop and bag them up! Ross helped my boyfriend and I out with the many questions we had and was very well educated. 10/10 would recommend this store. I had a long term service and relationship, including building a +10K personal tank. Over three years of engagement... Personal relationship of the service tech was great but there was zero capability or support to root cause issues when they did arise. I felt like I did not have an expert service provider supporting me in my 200+ gallons of tanks. Ultimately I had to have over 6 trophy fish die and a disaster in a 15 year old tank occur before I had to fire the provider and take back over duties. I learned canister tank filter hadn't been clean in one year. When I did, as I had new subtle community tank issues, 75% of my established tank died overnight. This is a factory shop and not one suited to personal care nor personal response to a seasoned hobbyist if that is your goal. read more

Visited Premier Aquatics because of a recommendation from a friend and had a great experience. The store was pretty cool and they have everything you could need regardless if you are freshwater or saltwater. When you first walk up there is a nice koi pond out front. Inside you are greeted by the staff and awesome display tanks. I probably spent a couple hours browsing the store and looking at everything they had. Jakub assisted me with buying substrate, a hang on back filter and some other items for my tanks. One of the things I really appreciated was Jakub's knowledge and honesty. He gave me multiple options and explained the differences. He asked questions about my goals with the tanks and gave great feedback I will definitely be coming back... and I live in Duluth. It's worth the drive for me because of service, knowledge and quality. Would recommend this place to anyone. read more

Do not go to this store if you care about your health. They act like they have covid procedures in place but as soon as you walk in, only 2 employees were wearing masks. They do not make people wear masks inside and there is no social distancing. We had to buy something or we would have left. They ended up over charging us but because no one helping us was wearing a mask we paid and left. I have a feeling that's why they did it too. This was one of the first independently owned fish stores that I have ever been to and I must say that I was impressed. Marine Reef and Fish store had a fairly large selection of aquatic life to choose from. They also had plenty of fish tanks to choose from, including tanks for fresh and salt water fish, all differing in size. There were definitely enough cool fish at this place for any individual to make their own version of "Finding Nemo." They even had little mini-sharks that seemed friendly from the outside of the tank, but I am sure they struck fear into the hearts of all the other fish in the tank with them. Pretty typical behavior of the bully of the sea. Their price of their fish were pretty standard...I think. I am not a fish pricing expert or anything, but how in the world can a fish accumulate a total value of $400? It boggles my mind why someone would pay that much money for a pet that I personally would much rather look at cooked with a side of vegetables. read more

I would give zero stars if I could.... I gave this store one more chance. Today I went back with my son and his friend who do extra chores to buy their fish and accessories that go along with that. I've been ripped off EVERY SINGLE TIME I've walked in the door. This place is only in it to take your money. My first visit we spent over $1000 purchasing our aquarium. That was ok but when we went back to buy fish after our cycle I was sold a Yellow Watchman Goby for $37 but 2 months later it's NOT a YWG it's an $8 Watchman Goby. Bought a Royal Gramma that sickened my entire tank and one fish didn't make it. The gramma had marine velvet which he died as well. The other fish was my $70 Pygmy Hawkfish. All within 5 days of purchase. Luckily saved the other two in my QT tank with copper treatment. They didn't seem to care at all. I get we will loose fish sometimes to things out of our control but they just do NOT care. They only care about how deep your pockets reach. And after today the girl that helped my sons friend rang her up and completely took advantage of her. With ZERO explanations of price differences. Also for a fish store that specializes in saltwater aquariums they don't have any knowledge on corals either. It's a sham. If you want a good store to go to try The Fish Store in Chamblee Tucker area. They have great selections and know what they are talking about as happy to share advice with the hobby. read more

It's with mixed emotions I give this review . However , it had to be given . I have started being a Customer in 2019. I have spent several thousand dollars on exotic freshwater tropical fish with them . They often have fish misleading labeled when it comes to the higher end fish but I usually can make the distinction . I am targeting monster species and oddball fish , that is my thing . Roughly a month ago I was making my run to all the shops . I drive about 3 hrs round trip and start at Kennesaw and work my way thru Atlanta hunting peacock bass, rare catfish , bichirs and just anything oddball . There were two fish labeled red pike cichlid . I am not a pike cichlid expert . However , I had seen amazing pictures of bright red adult species . I was commenting to the sales associate how amazing they get . As juveniles they are very drab . She said get the pike , you need it . I was like , I am not paying $200 , and she was like no get the smaller one it is only $135 if memory serves . She convinced me . So I took it home quarantined it and went about my business . Then it came time to Move it into one of my big tanks . I started researching and it was pointed out to me that I had bought a Joanna pike cichlid, not a red pike cichlid. However , sometime referred to as a red fin , but it won't get red and will stay more olive actually . A red pike chichlid aka Atabo will actually have a dark spot on the tail . Which I know now would of clued me in that what they sold me was incorrectly labeled . Fast forward to this week . I go to the store and look at their stock . The still have the $200 pike cichlid and it clearly has a spot so it is technically correct . So I ask for a manager and it is lady that has helped me with some bigger fish purchase before . I tell her the story and she starts fidgeting with her phone. I am not sure if she was texting someone for advice or what . Anyways , she says the best they could do would be to give 30% of what I paid for it since it had been a few weeks . I was a little perturbed as I buy so much , and it clearly was miss sold to me . However , I am trying to turn over a new leaf . So we walked back to where they keep the big fish and I pointed out to her a mislabeled fish and tried to show her that I am not trying to scam them .She even showed me another fish labeled as red pike , but she said they got that from a customer and that was what they said it was . So it made me question if what I bought was customer donated along with these that are still here . So I just moved on to a few other fish 1 out of 2 she correctly identified . Then I asked about a fish . I asked her what this was labeled as . She proudly says a golden shark . It was like $8 . I was like are you sure you want to sell me this fish what that price . She says absolutely. Now , I knew what it was . It was actually a yellowtail barracuda . I tried to explain and , I finally showed her pictures . I asked again are you sure . At which point she is scrambling on her phone and she says let me check to be sure . She walks up to the front and comes back a few minutes later . She says your right it is a yellow tail barracuda and it is $68 I think . She went in that she could give me 20% off . I declined Now , I could of taken advantage of the manager and bought all three of the mislabeled and offered to Me fish at pennies on the dollar . Why ? I am not a crook and not that type of person . I really thought by showing her how easy it is for mislabeled fish can hurt both customer and shop Owner on a purchase ; she would get it . I thought she might say thank you and we can take that fish back we incorrectly sold you . I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt she did not give me . I will never buy from them again . In reality even though I am just few thousand dollar customer a year and they will find other customers . They have a really nice shop and a good selection of fish . Now I am in the market for a 400 gallon this year so that could be harder to replace by a new customer . Nevertheless , on my own no big dent . I am not saying don't buy from them . I won't , but just be careful with what you buy , and don't trust their labeling of fish . Additionally , know that some of their more exotics are trade ins labeled on what they were told . Very nice, fancy fish and nice supplies. But, very overpriced. They also do not wear masks which is very disappointing that they do not care about their costumer's health. They do not have a big or nice selection of live plants. They take very well care of their fish. Well, MOST of their fish. They take horrible care of their betta fish. They have them in tiny tiny glass bowls, that are even smaller than petco and petsmart's betta cups. The bowls are the size of my palm. They have them under a super bright light, with nothing to cover them from jumping out or for them to hide from the bright light. There is nothing in between the bowls to keep them from seeing each other, so they flare all day long at each other. poor bettas. And when they put them in tanks, they put them in the tanks with a bunch of flow, making it so that they can't even swim and just get whirled around until they die. Last time I went to Premier Aquatics, all of the bettas that they put in the community tanks, were sucked up against the filter, all but one were dead, and moldy/covered in fungus. One was SUCKED INTO THE FILTER AND STILL ALIVE. It was a disgusting and frustrating sight to see. Premier Aquatics, take better care of your bettas!!!! read more

Three times I've purchased fish (fresh water) from them and three times I've had to deal with an infected tank afterwards. Usually ich which is a PITA with my pictus cats. Brought home new fish last week. Pictus cats (which I've had for a couple of uneventful years) are showing signs of infection and I've lost one already. read more

Nice store with very clean tanks and healthy fish, but pretty overpriced. As a beginning price barometer, they charge $1.50 per gallon for their saltwater (BYO container), versus other Atlanta area aquarium stores which charge .50 or $1.00 per gallon. This is the first time I've experienced $1.50 per gallon. Also, the ladies that filled up my jugs didn't fill them all the way up, but still charged me for the full five gallons. I didn't call them on it, but that was a little annoying given that they charged a princely sum for the water. Fish looked happy and healthy, I'd definitely return, but likely to look rather than buy. Another comp: they have a few tanks of itsy-bitsy hermit crabs, literally the smallest hermits I've seen for sale, and they were charging $3.99 each. Two other perimeter area stores charge $1.99 for hermit crabs that are twice the size of those guys. Pretty good selection of freshwater critters. Accessories and other externals were pretty overpriced relative to other LFS in the Atlanta Metro area. read more

About 2 years ago, I decided to start a freshwater aquarium. I grew up with a giant saltwater aquarium and it didn't look like too much work so I figured this could only be easier. Well, whatever the equivalent of a black thumb is for aquariums is what I have. I started with 3 guppies from Petsmart. Then one day, a guppy disappeared. I was heartbroken, so I went to Petsmart and bought 2 more guppies (so now I'm at 4). Then another guppy disappeared! ..so I had to buy more, naturally. I don't know if they were eating each other or if a guppy-alien spaceship came and beamed them away at night. Either way, my tank was very unstable and I hovered around 3-8 guppies at any given time. That is, until we had a super rainy weekend and I, not knowing that rain would affect the mineral content in our tap water, proceeded to change 1/3 of the water as usual. Within 3 days, ALL of my guppies died. After a couple weeks of mourning, I decided to clean out the tank and start all over. This time, I found Marine Reef on Yelp and went to them for advice, bringing along a sample of water from my new tank. They tested my water (gave me an A+), educated me on the guppy's finicky nature, and sent me home with 2 baby angel fish. Similar to Petco or Petsmart (can't remember which), they have a policy whereby if your fish dies within 14 days or something, they'll replace it for free (granted, you do have to bring proof). So of course, around day 15, one of my angel fish murders the other one and I'm sh*t out of luck for a replacement. Nevertheless, my single angel fish lived on happily for the next 18+ months and grew the longest, prettiest fins I've ever seen on an angel fish...probably because they usually get into fights and get them chewed off. This past weekend, I had to fish out my fish...and take him back to Marine Reef because I'm moving to California soon and am not sure whether or not I'll keep the aquarium or how to transport him. I told the lady at the store my situation and she immediately said she'll take him home to her aquarium and take good care of him. When I left, I felt all warm and fuzzy that he had found a great new home...probably better than I could have ever given him because she works at a fish store for goodness sake! Anyway, my point is, there is not an aquarium store with more knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful people than this one. This should be the first stop for anyone owning or looking to start an aquarium, saltwater or fresh. read more

I was at my local big box pet retailer yesterday. I wanted to purchase a few inverts for my two planted tanks. The guy in the fish department was obviously new at the gig. Sadly, he had zero aquarium knowledge, as he couldn't answer any of my questions. As I watched him spend way too long chasing the shrimp with a net, stressing them (I know this, because one of them was dead in the bag before I left the store), I thought to myself, "there's got to be another way!" I've been following premier aquatics on their social media profile for several weeks. I've not visited though because it's clearly across town. That changed for me today. I took a trip to the store and am glad I did. The place is pretty large. They have a nice selection of fresh and saltwater fish, invertebrates, and plants. The staff were knowledgeable and helpful, and I found the prices to be pretty reasonable too. You might pay a little more than one of the chain pet stores, but the peace of mind is well worth the extra few bucks. Be on the lookout for specials. They have a clearance room with a lot of good deals. I got used mopani driftwood for $1/pound. That's a steal. They do also have specials on fish and plants. I got some very nice well grown plants for a few bucks apiece. I wish I could say that I won't be going back to Premier any time soon....but I'm a little bit hooked on fishkeeping now, so I know that when I need supplies, plants, or animals, this will be my choice. read more
