We stopped at the Wildwood restaurant, during a short stay in Stratford. We didn't know quite what…read moreto expect, but overall we were impressed. The interior at the front isn't the most enticing, but we were seated quickly, and staff were very efficient. We were provided with free tap water. To start, we had a mixed side salad (£4.95) and my partner had a salmon fish cake (£7.65). Both were very nice. (A well-dressed side salad is a good test of a restaurant in my opinion.) We then each had a pizza; my partner had a double pepperoni pizza, and I had the courgette and goats cheese pizza open (both £14.45). Both came with standard, thin bases, which were crispy without being tough. The courgette and goat cheese pizza was particularly nice, as it also came with mushrooms, peppers, olives, and pesto. It was one of the nicest pizzas I've had in some time. My partner said his pizza was good, but a different choice might have been more interesting. But both pizzas were very filling. (I'm not sure I could have managed the larger version, £2 extra.) Together with two low-alcohol lagers, and 10% service, the total bill came to just under £57. We thought this was very good value, and we would very happily return.

A warm welcome. Except, apparently, for the warmth…read more We arrived first thing in the morning, wet from the pouring rain and apparently Huxleys' very first customers of the day. Naturally, we headed toward the table furthest from the open doors and windows through which the lovely English weather was enthusiastically joining us for breakfast. Mistake. It was a table for four. There were only two of us. We were quickly redirected. Apparently we had wandered dangerously close to The Forbidden Table. We retreated, suitably chastened and quietly ashamed that we had ever entertained such extravagance. Settling instead nearer the open doors and windows, I mentioned that I was cold. The proprietress corrected me: "It is not cold." Ah. Splendid. Coldness cancelled. Then came The Silverware Incident. Both of our eyeglasses were covered in raindrops, so I picked up a set of cutlery wrapped in a paper napkin, intending to use the napkin to dry our glasses. From across the room, the proprietor barked: "You could have asked first." I froze. Apparently I had now breached Huxleys Napkin Protocol. There followed that special married-couple moment when no words are required. My husband looked at me through his rain-spattered glasses. I looked at him through mine. He said, "Let's go." And so ended our approximately three-minute breakfast at Huxleys, having consumed neither food nor beverage, but having learned three valuable things: 1. Tables for four are for four. Do not dream above your station. 2. We were not cold. 3. The napkins are not to be trifled with. The food may be absolutely delicious. We shall never know.

There is a good selection of beer and ale on tap and a full wine list, with by the glass, carafe and bottle options. We noted that Sheep has a sister restaurant across the street (The Porch House) under the same ownership and during the time of our visit the menu was virtually identical so do your homework before choosing.

As we entered to the restaurant, we were shown to our seats by the most friendly of staff, who took our coats, before we settled.. I think we were extremely lucky to get seated in all honesty as most of the tables were pre-booked. So, we sat down to enjoy our meal, the service was excellent, i have never had my needs anticipated in so many ways. The staff new the menu and could recommend the food. And there was a synergy between the servers, yes we had more than one it seemed, a warmness and a genuine interest in your happiness. Everyone one of the servers smiled! The Penne Arrabbiata was extremely tasty but a bit on he mild side in terms of tasting the chilli's, though still very good you could taste the use of fresh ingredients. The Crème brûlée was amazing, I haven't seen it done right in many a restaurant I have been too, but this one done to perfection. The coffee, was fabulous, though at this point in the night it was kind of expected. The only downside I could possibly think of , that to be honest doesn't denigrate the experience in anyway, was the bathroom, though it was clean and well tended. A most wonderful experience, if I am ever back in Stratford upon Avon I certainly will book to ensure I get to taste the delightful ambiance of Sorrento's again.

Butterflied King Prawns in garlic. These were simply the best succulent King Prawns I have eaten in such a long time. Seriously. My Pa went for Cannelloni with ricotta and spinach and thought it wonderful. I went for the Lobster and seafood linguine special. It came with King Prawns but of the variety I'd expect which tend to be disappointing. The Lobster wasn't that extraordinary either. The atmosphere is okay but I'm sure in the evening and at weekends the place feels more lively. We asked for some pieces of bread to soak up the juices of the starters and found we got charged £2 something which I thought was somewhat steep for a couple of pieces of bread but they removed the charge without complaint so good on them for that. House wine is fine.

Our party of six was easily accommodated in their upstairs dining rooms on a Thursday evening around 8:00pm. We made a reservation on open table earlier in the day. Our server was Meghan who was cheerfully warm, welcoming and quite knowledgeable about the menu. Meghan made excellent menu suggestions. Loxley's also has a gluten free and a dairy free version of their current menu so special orders are simple. We started out with a charcuterie sampler that was full of delectable treats. I enjoyed the mushroom risotto and added some tiger prawns. Others in our party enjoyed the pork belly, duck and cod dishes. All delicious and artfully prepared. Of course Loxley's has a wide assortment of beers, wines and cocktails to enjoy with your dinner. If you are looking for less touristy fine dining in Stratford on Avon you will find it here. Double highly recommend.
