A warm welcome. Except, apparently, for the warmth…read more We arrived first thing in the morning, wet from the pouring rain and apparently Huxleys' very first customers of the day. Naturally, we headed toward the table furthest from the open doors and windows through which the lovely English weather was enthusiastically joining us for breakfast. Mistake. It was a table for four. There were only two of us. We were quickly redirected. Apparently we had wandered dangerously close to The Forbidden Table. We retreated, suitably chastened and quietly ashamed that we had ever entertained such extravagance. Settling instead nearer the open doors and windows, I mentioned that I was cold. The proprietress corrected me: "It is not cold." Ah. Splendid. Coldness cancelled. Then came The Silverware Incident. Both of our eyeglasses were covered in raindrops, so I picked up a set of cutlery wrapped in a paper napkin, intending to use the napkin to dry our glasses. From across the room, the proprietor barked: "You could have asked first." I froze. Apparently I had now breached Huxleys Napkin Protocol. There followed that special married-couple moment when no words are required. My husband looked at me through his rain-spattered glasses. I looked at him through mine. He said, "Let's go." And so ended our approximately three-minute breakfast at Huxleys, having consumed neither food nor beverage, but having learned three valuable things: 1. Tables for four are for four. Do not dream above your station. 2. We were not cold. 3. The napkins are not to be trifled with. The food may be absolutely delicious. We shall never know.

February 15th 2019…read more In Evening, me my mom and my dad had a family dinner together.Everything was going great. We first had to book this Italian restaurant called Rigoletto. After we got there we found a very comfortable seat. Mom and I started to order. My original plan for my third course was to eat a pancake called Crêpes Suzette. The waitress said that I couldn't order that as my third course. It was because there would be alcohol in Crêpes Suzette so he suggested me to try another dessert for my third course so I ordered tiramisu. The rest of our meal was delicious! However, our neighbors ordered Crêpes Suzette and we saw the fire flying up two meters high. It was caused by the alcohol. Because the alcohol was strong enough to make the cooking pan go on fire for two meters high. That was a funny & interesting night. I enjoyed eating in the Rigoletto and if you have time, you can go there for your dinner!!! Fun Fact This was my dolci menu!!!

This is a great place to enjoy some good Italian after exploring Oxford all day. We went during the…read moreholidays and I have to say they did a great job with decorating and giving it a very holiday, welcoming vibe. The staff were friendly and attentive (but not overly so because they did let us chill out and talk for a bit after our meal). For food, I really enjoyed the mushroom risotto- it does have a pretty heavy mushroom taste so if you like mushrooms you'll love it. I found adding chicken cut the taste a little; I'm not sure if I'd have liked it as much if I didn't add the protein. My friend ordered the crab fettuccine...it was okayyyy. Wasn't enough crab for me personally and wish there'd been more bisque to make it a smidge more creamy. The bruschetta was a nice appetizer but was only two slices so wouldn't recommend for more than 2 people. Side note: if you're looking for a good wine, the Chianti was delicious and complimented the meal well. We were able to walk in with no reservations for 2 people but any group larger than that, you need to be prepared to wait or make your reservation ahead of time. There were a couple groups of 4 people in front of us and they quoted them a 2 hour wait because of the amount of reservations they had. Could have been just because of the holiday time.

We were given a table for an hour, which was plenty of time. My boyfriend, who wasn't that hungry, ordered the beef tortellini small plate, and I got the lasagne. Both were satisfying and seasoned well. The best part of the experience was probably the ambience, particularly since it was the holiday season. The interior was cozy, well lit, and had an intimate feel, which makes the restaurant a popular place for Christmas parties.

It doesn't look much from the outside but from the moment you go in, you are made to feel at home. A clean modern restaurant. All our food was served promptly, and was devoured just as promptly - all excellent. I have visited many "Italian" Restaurants both in Italy & here in the UK and I have to say this is certainly in my top ten! Good food made from quality ingredients, with excellent service is never cheap (if cheap is what you want, there are many pub restaurants to choose from) La Nonna is reasonably priced for the standard of food & service you receive, you can pay a lot more elsewhere for a lot less! Well worth a visit
