Wow! Sorrento has refurbished and expanded with new stylish decor and more tables!…read more I went for my usual Spicy pizza with extra chilli, chef decided to hide the chillis under a beautiful cheese layer. Always good to be surprised by a chilli kick. New wine menu on its way I believe with a return of the specials board. Go on give the Sorrento a try.

Later…read morein the evening when we were pondering where to go for our dinner, I saw that that Sorrento had received high praise on Trip Advisor, and our decision was made. The small restaurante is owned by a sweet Italian family. I love the homey atmosphere of the place. Large wooden tables, interesting ball wrapped fixtures, and friendly staff who offered quick service with helpful answers to questions about the menu. I had a glass of Chardonnay, which I was told would be a bit dry, but l found it quite lovely and mild. It was easy to drink and went nicely with all we ate. The Mozzarella In Carrozza (Breaded and deep fried mozzarella cheese in breadcrumbs served with basil scented napolitana dip) was fantastic. At £5.50, it was an excellent starter. I was expecting Mozzarella sticks, but what arrived to our table was a 3 or 4 inch round of deliciously oozy mozzarella in a crunchy bread coating. It was delicious. I went with the Pollo Alla Pizzaiola (Breast of chicken cooked in tomato, garlic, oregano, fresh mozzarella, white wine and basil pesto sauce). It came with a side of steamed vegetables (broccoli, carrots and potatoes). I would have enjoyed a small side of pasta with it for £13.50, but it was so delicious. For dessert, I had to go for the Souffle al Cioccolato, which is quite self explanatory. It was a seriously delicious and dense chocolate cake and the centre was so thick and luscious. It's more than worth the £4.95 price. This was by far the best dessert that I have had in England. Superb. I spoke with the owner after the meal to inquire as to whether the desserts were made in house and I was told that they were. The ice creams aren't, but the actual dessert is. I passed along my high praise. He had a nice conversation with us and offered us an after-dinner drink. We selected the Limoncello and it was amazing, and a nice end to a wonderful meal. I highly recommend this restaurant, and will look forward to a trip back to Stroud so we can return.

Its decor is Italian, Mediterranean, it's not high spec modern it's comfortable tasteful friendly & welcoming. It's an enjoyable place to sit and eat. They also have an outdoor are and function room beyond that. They would make more use of the outdoor area, it's a nice large, enclosed slabbed area. The function room is great, will seat 70-80 comfortably, it has it's own bar and toilets. Very clean, very warm & welcoming. Doesn't feel like you are stepping into a massive function room but stepping into a Mediterranean eatery. The food has been fantastic, the chefs will alter things to suit. The last time we went there our favourite dish wasn't on the specials board that night but we asked and they made it for us. We recently attended a party in the function room, there was a buffet. I am sure they do buffets to fit all budgets, I think this one was the lower buffet Price as it was a bit "Mums gone to Iceland". But nether the less I managed to eat plenty of it as it was delicious. Price wise, you get what you pay for. It's a great restaurant with great food. We had 2 starters, 2 main course, 2 desserts, 2 side orders, olives and bread, 1 bottle of house white & a couple of soft drinks and it was under £100. I call that value for money. I can't wait to eat there again!

The food is consistently good, the service friendly and the value unbeatable, highly recommended.read more

We went during the…read moreholidays and I have to say they did a great job with decorating and giving it a very holiday, welcoming vibe. The staff were friendly and attentive (but not overly so because they did let us chill out and talk for a bit after our meal). For food, I really enjoyed the mushroom risotto- it does have a pretty heavy mushroom taste so if you like mushrooms you'll love it. I found adding chicken cut the taste a little; I'm not sure if I'd have liked it as much if I didn't add the protein. My friend ordered the crab fettuccine...it was okayyyy. Wasn't enough crab for me personally and wish there'd been more bisque to make it a smidge more creamy. The bruschetta was a nice appetizer but was only two slices so wouldn't recommend for more than 2 people. Side note: if you're looking for a good wine, the Chianti was delicious and complimented the meal well. We were able to walk in with no reservations for 2 people but any group larger than that, you need to be prepared to wait or make your reservation ahead of time. There were a couple groups of 4 people in front of us and they quoted them a 2 hour wait because of the amount of reservations they had. Could have been just because of the holiday time.

We were given a table for an hour, which was plenty of time. My boyfriend, who wasn't that hungry, ordered the beef tortellini small plate, and I got the lasagne. Both were satisfying and seasoned well. The best part of the experience was probably the ambience, particularly since it was the holiday season. The interior was cozy, well lit, and had an intimate feel, which makes the restaurant a popular place for Christmas parties.

It doesn't look much from the outside but from the moment you go in, you are made to feel at home. A clean modern restaurant. All our food was served promptly, and was devoured just as promptly - all excellent. I have visited many "Italian" Restaurants both in Italy & here in the UK and I have to say this is certainly in my top ten! Good food made from quality ingredients, with excellent service is never cheap (if cheap is what you want, there are many pub restaurants to choose from) La Nonna is reasonably priced for the standard of food & service you receive, you can pay a lot more elsewhere for a lot less! Well worth a visit

La Fenice is a good Italian restaurant…read more However, it has all the makings of a GREAT Italian restaurant if it could succumb to a few simple tweaks. I went there with friends recently. The vibe of the places squeals 'style', the friendly smiling attention of the servers likewise. Then we we given the menus. The combination of low light, nothing specific illuminating our table and pale grey printing on the pages of the menu meant... well, it meant we couldn't actually see what was on offer! I am not making this up when I say to read it we had to spark up a smartphone and hold it over the pages and then lean in as a combined trio to pore over the contents. So simple suggestion 1:- Quickly reprint the menus using good old fashioned black ink and save your diners the embarrassment and awkwardness of having to squint like a very squinty thing. Simple Suggestion #2:- If you must play music over the speakers, please, please, PLEASE play something that is in keeping with the stylish vibe of the place. I will remember La Fenice's craptastic selection of horrible saxophone solos, cheesy light jazz rubbish, out-of-tune wailers and (at one point an utterly bizarre choice of) German oompah band music FAR longer than I will remember the food I ate there. And the food is good. One of our party had a pizza which looked inviting and was polished off in its 14" entirety whilst the other two opted for the risottos (mushroom or chicken) which came out from the kitchen hot and steaming and very tasty indeed, garnished and accompanied perfectly. The food served to the tables around us all looked terrific and almost everyone seemed to be having a nice time... even if eyebrows did collectively raise when that oompah tune came on. Le Fenice's website - just discovered - states that fish is their speciality. I wish I had known that on the night as its been a long time since I've had a good Italian fish dish. Sadly, the design of the menu meant I never even saw this kind of offering to choose it. Like I said. A good Italian restaurant with all the makings of being a great one. Worth a try if you take along a flashlight/torch and a sturdy pair of music-blocking earplugs!
