Fratello's restaurant is traditional Italian food! Just like my grandmothers cooking. Ask for Rossella, she was fantastic!

We tried Fratello's for the first time last week. It was pretty good, and the service isn't bad at all. We would go back.

Have had a couple of good visits since the last review and even had a nice delivery, but on the two…read moremost recent visits, things have changed a bit. We can't figure it out, but maybe management has changed... None of the friendly Italian staff seem to be there anymore and some of the food is not quite what it was before. So on a previous dinner visit, we were waited on by someone we had not seen in the restaurant before. She wasn't very friendly, but our food was coming out and there didn't seem to be anything wrong with the food, so we didn't think much of it. For dessert, I had to change from Tiramisu (they were out) to the Sweet Dough Twists. When they came out, well let's just say that I didn't take a picture of them because they didn't look quite so appetizing. There was a cold, white-ish (it was a bit transparent), sweet syrup and the dough twists looked burnt... and some of them tasted burnt. When our bill came, we noticed that the 2 for £12 was not applied. So we asked about it and our waitress said she would fix it, but did seem annoyed that we had mentioned it. Mr. Snarky also put out his American Express card and told him quite sharply that they didn't take American Express. So he put that one away and pulled out his Visa, which looks slightly similar and she said as she took the card and put it into the machine, "We do not take American Express, but if you want me to try it..." On the most recent visit, we were waited on by the same waitress and again, not super friendly, but as long as our food came out and there was nothing wrong with it, then we will settle for efficient. I wanted to choose a dish that I hadn't had before, and while they have specials... the specials always seem to be the same and the specials on the table are different from those on the sign outside. Instead I stuck to the regular menu. I chose a dish I haven't had before, so I cannot compare it with any of the other visits, but I can tell you that it wasn't quite what was on the menu. I ordered the Penne Toscana which was supposed to have sausage, but had bits of bacon in it. It was tasty, but it did end up being very greasy. And the bread that I looked forward to having (it is a swirl of white and brown bread and oh so moist) was stale... so stale it could have been confused for cold toast. Based on that and because of what happened last time with the 2 for £12, I decided to forego dessert, but Mr. Snarky was hankering for their Cheesecake with Fruits of the Forest. When the dessert arrived... well it looked a bit different. The most notable difference was the sauce. The sauce used to have fresh fruit (you could see the currants and berries) and it had this deep red juice. The sauce that was on the cheesecake did not have distinct fruit, was a light pink color and gloopy... in fact there were bits that we couldn't identify in the sauce. The cheesecake tasted a bit different and the base was extra thick. Mr. Snarky was a bit disappointed and it even prompted him to say that maybe we should resume our exploration for an Italian restaurant or a new "regular" spot. Again, we had to bring up the 2 for £12 as our bill did not reflect it, but she didn't mention that they had stopped this deal. Not sure what is happening, especially since their Facebook page is indicating that they are celebrating the one year anniversary of the restaurant, but I certainly hope that they keep their standards up so they can have many more anniversaries.

Friendly staff & even the deliveries are nice (and on time). Much better than a stodgy old Dominos or Pizza Hut. Hopefully this will continue with the recent (unnecessary) management change. I ordered simply some pasta and a side salad. The salad did not have dressing but did come with oil upon request. Overall it was not bad and had lots of great veggies included. My tortoloni pasta was passable but very much on the bland side. The portions were big and my co-worker eating with me ordered pizza that looked much, much better. In fact, most of the restaurant patrons had ordered pizza. Perhaps they knew something I did not! The pricing is OK, the bread served was so-so. The house red wine was nice, whatever it was. Friendly people running this place, just very slow even when we were the only ones inside the entire restaurant.

My friend had a chicken based pizza that he too, could not fault. Dinner: meal for 4 people. I can't remember what everyone had to eat but I do remember every one of us enjoying our meals. One of the great things about Mario's is that it's located in Wood Street (the best area in Swindon for some nice drinks) in an undercroft. There is a central seating area with a surround made of multiple alcoves, in which, you can control your own mood lighting. The service in Mario's is very friendly, with all of the staff being Italian and appropriately talkative.

This Pizza Express is at a busy intersection, which means that there is no street parking next to the restaurant. There is a short-stay car park just a short walk down the road, after 6 p.m. the fee for parking is 2 quid until very early in the morning. I only know this because we wanted to use the 2 for 1 Orange Wednesday offer, but when we walked in after parking, they were busy and wouldn't have a table until 9 p.m. On this visit, I popped in during lunch time... ok, it was more like 1:30 or 2 p.m., but as a Lady of Leisure now with no obligations, the world is my oyster! I had also gotten carried away with shopping, but if I had a leisurely lunch, Mr. Snarky could just pick me up after work and we could head back to Bolton for the weekend. Anyway, when I walked in, there were loads of groups with children, so it was a bit manic and a bit loud. I felt bad for the one staff member who seemed to be waiting on all the tables. She did seat me quite quickly and sat me further away from the noise, which was nice since I had just bought a new book and was ready to get stuck in. After having walked outside most of the day, I ordered a glass of ice water and she brought me this tall glass full of ice and water... she knew exactly what I was wanting. The menu has changed a bit since the last time I was in a Pizza Express, but what I liked were the new items that were added for the summer! The last thing you want is something super heavy on a hot day and the new items seem to be much lighter. I decided on the Piadina Pizza: spinach, rocket, mushrooms, artichokes, pine nuts, and a spicy tomato sauce. No cheese! Huzzah for us lactose intolerant sods! While I know I can always order pizzas without cheese, some of them weren't made to be served without cheese, but this, this sounded light and seemed like a the best of two worlds: salad and pizza. The waitress seemed to understand when to leave me be and when to stop over and see if I needed anything. To be fair, because I was having one of those long, leisurely lunches, she could have ignored me and paid all of her attention to the other tables and I would have been fine, but it was nice to know she hadn't forgotten about me and that my water glass was never empty. When my pizza came it looked delicious! I also asked for the thin crust and it was the right choice in keeping the dish light. I thought I was going to need the chili oil, however, the spicy tomato sauce had a kick and it was great! I loved the pizza and will probably order it the next time we go in (Orange Wednesdays... we made a reservation this time). I did order a dessert, the Summer Pudding with ice cream. I was pretty excited because you don't see Summer Pudding on many menus! Although they did have some other light, summery desserts with sorbet and fruit that looked delicious too! The Summer Pudding is a nice small portion, which is highly appreciated after stuffing my face with a whole pizza. The pudding itself was nice... tart and sweet, but mostly bread. It could have done with more fruit, but I still devoured it. I think Pizza Express has hit the nail on the head with the summer menu items and I can't wait to go back and try some of the other items!
