The actual move was good. We had no problems and the guys who came were very professional. BUT customer service with Amy afterwards has been nothing but a disaster. Our payment bounced. Completely my fault. We had some unsual bills due to my son's death and we accidently were overdrawn. Again completely my fault. However as soon as Amy contacted me about the returned check, I immediately paid her over the phone with a credit card. I then received a letter in the mail from a collection agency that I owe them for the bounced check. I called Amy and she assured me it is an issue she will take care of and not to worry everything is good. 2 weeks later I get another letter. IT is still not taken care of. I call Amy back. Again I am told she will take care of it and she has talked to the agency and not sure why I got another letter. So I called the agency. I was told by them that I STILL owe them the money because they have already paid Amy/Preferred moving. I explained I had paid her and can show proof of payment. They tell me that I still owe them also. They proceed to also tell me that they have sent Amy/Preferred moving multiply emails, all unreturned and made several phone calls, all unanswered or returned about this account still being unresolved. So right now Amy/Preferred Moving is still on a double payment for my move. Not a very honest way to do business in my opinion. read more

Used this mover to move me Late February of 2022. Had them to store a range and refrigerator among other things as I was downsizing home and leasing till I got a new one built, in climate control storage behind old Hickory Dickery Dot. They moved me from Conover to Newton 6 miles. You would think movers would know to take refrigerator doors off or leave open. But no they did not. 16 months later refrigerator is covered in black mold inside. I do not trust cleaning because spores can get into freezer coils and air vents. So $1400 to move and $2600 for a new fridge. A very expensive move that could have been avoided if movers knew what they were doing. Edit.. sense I can not respond to their reply on this review. I personally would not hire a moving company that required a release of liability to correctly store a item like a refrigerator long term. I had to move out of a 2bedroom condo I sold in Banner Elk, NC. Denby gave me an estimate of $2200 and $225 per month for storage. They had to come back the next day because they didn't finish. I had to leave. The washer/ dryer was still there along with tv's. Mirrors and pictures. The guy in charge assured me he would get everything else left. When I got everything 6 months later delivered to my new condo, there was damage to a lamp. Lamp shade and chandelier. The Sony tv was missing along with my two windowpane mirrors that they just left there. I texted Denby four times. One time he called to say he had the Sony tv but was just too busy to deliver it to me. Recently I sent a written demand and it has just been ignored By the way, he charged me $3,800 to move me out to his storage facility and $350 per month. Moving is never a fun situation. Thanks to the gentlemen from Preferred we were able to get our place into a home. The guys were consistent and polite. They came in and knew what needed to be done and cared enough about our possessions as though they were their own. If your in need of respectful people to come help you with your moving needs I would highly suggest these guys. This is not easy work and I was truly impressed from introduction to final good bye. Mostly good experience with this company. They showed up on time and were efficient. Unfortunately, there was damage to our sofa which we had asked be moved with extra care. There was an initial attempt to correct the damage to the sofa via telephone call and a few emails, but no follow through. Very disappointing customer service. read more

This company was hired by a brokerage moving company to move me from Mooresville, NC to Ocean Isle Beach, NC. Not only was the move sloppy, they didn't set up my bed correctly and later I found a few damaged items. Most importantly, I have quite a few things stolen, including a quilt that my grandmother handmade for my sister, so it was invaluable. The remaining things stolen were still in the boxes, unopened, so I can only assume they were sold. I had given one of the two movers many things because he had recently been homeless, and I gave both movers generous tips. Still, I had things stolen from me, and the owner did nothing to compensate me for my losses. I would warn anyone not to use these people after my experience with them. read more

Todd Beher, owner of Preferred Movers of Hickory, was initially very kind and promised to provide great service. His mover, Charles was also very kind, but then he cracked my 55inch flat screen and promised that it would be replaced that week. He was very sincere and apologetic. His boss, Todd said that he would replace the television, and now it has been since October 27, 2018 that they moved me and busted my television, and still no resolve. Todd Beher is now angry because I contacted the better business bureau having no resolve for his unethical behavior. He's angry?!?! He busted my television and offered me 60 cents per pound of the television. Really Todd?? $15 is what he offered. PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT USE TODD BEHER OF PREFERRED MOVING located in Hickory North Carolina. Some may say that he took advantage of me because I am a single young female and maybe that he felt he could get away with it. Could that be true that Todd takes advantage of single young women, why not the elderly, or sickly?? Maybe, possibly, but why chance it!!! Bad business practice on his behalf. I wonder what Todd would do if someone did this to his mother, or wife, or daughter?
