I went to this salon today for the first time. WOW! it is absolutely beautiful inside. I had an appointment to get my hair done by Jen. The receptionist greeted me warmly and brought me some water. The lobby smelled so nice and the boutique was gorgeous...found a candle for my sister. The washing station and drying area were clean and pretty! I loved my hair and will definitely be back! Creative. Punctual. Amazing!!!!! I recently had the please of getting my hair done by Isaac Huerta at Preen. The second I walked into the salon I felt as if I was out of town. Such a beautiful and relaxing atmosphere to be totally pampered in. Isaac always gets the job done perfectly. I'm very picky and Isaac ways knows what I want. I'm always very happy when I leave his chair. I have not gone to this salon, this review is based purely on the customer service of the girl who answered me on the phone. (Joan? Joanne? Joanna? Idk) I am new to Fresno and I was looking for a place to get a haircut (darn heat!) and tried this place first because of all the fabulous reviews. When I called, I was greeted with a static-y connection and the girl in question. She asked me who I wanted to be seen with and I told her I was new in town and was okay with anyone. Her demeanor changed, said "oh... You're new," as if you have to belong to a club to be seen there then she told me to hold. After being on hold she said, "So when did you want to be seen?" no "Hi, thank you for holding" or "Sorry for the wait, how can I help you?" When I told her Saturday she immediately informed me she was all booked for that day. Did she even check?! Then I asked for Sunday she gave me attitude (as if I should have memorized their schedule) and said, "umm we're closed that day." Since I need the haircut before Monday, I thanked her for her time and waited for her to apologize/thank me back or ANY customer service. All I got was a long "okaaay" before I ultimately hung up on her. If that's the type of person they hire just to answer the phones, I'm afraid of what kind of service the hair stylists provide. Maybe I caught her on a bad day, but that's not my problem. Anyway, now I have an appointment with Alchemy (who provided EXCELLENT phone service). At least the girl at Alchemy sounded excited/enthusiastic for having me as a new customer. read more

Preen is positively my go-to salon. It's fancy, they give you free water/coffee/tea, they have a ton of boutique items on sale to peruse while you're waiting, and a very friendly staff. Melissa up at the front is definitely a sweetheart! Their services range from facials/spa and waxing to spray tans and hair services, so they're definitely all inclusive. Up front, I'm going to say the only reason why I give them four stars is because they're definitely on the pricy side; HOWEVER, you get what you pay for, and the quality here is excellent (I just wish it were more affordable :P). I come for Christopher, and he is hands down the sweetest guy, talkative (but not overbearing and talking your ear off). He's been doing hair for over twenty years and works for a company that has him travel and do hair demonstrations. He's definitely a skilled professional at his job. He took me from crappy Supercuts red and previous blonde highlights to a gorgeous medium blonde that he wasn't even sure would hold (but lo and behold, he's legit, so it did). Most recently, he's taken me back from blonde to a slightly darker version of my original hair color. My favorite thing about him is that you can tell him a vision of what you want, and he can make it happen without having to be told specifics. I sat in the chair with my mess of 6 month old roots and flyaways, asked to keep the length but clean it up and give it layers so I could still put up a high ponytail, and do something close to my original color. Honestly, he gave me more than I could've asked if I'd tried to be more specific and picky. If you're willing to trust a legitimate professional, come to Preen, ask for Christopher, and you won't be disappointed. read more

I guess with this place by look of ALL their other reviews, you'll either LOVE it or HATE it! =) Maybe take a walk through beforehand to talk to your stylist and get a feel if this is the right salon for you: I had a great experience at Preen. The location is great, but make sure to have it mapquested as it can be a tad bit tricky getting there. The décor/layout is well thought out. The building is 5K SQ FT which is HUGE. Everyone is pretty friendly...they have a sitting/water station...books and tons of other girly odds and ends that they have for sale which is fun to look through while waiting for your stylist or if you're waiting for someone that's getting their hair done. Heather on Yelp suggested/commented that Lawrence did a great job...so I rolled the dice and went with Lawrence. It was a great choice...I am usually so worried going to new hair stylists but because of work/financing....I sometimes hop around. I have VERY long and THICK hair...I had it colored, highlighted, cut, styled and it was $180...and I left a $20 tip. The coloring was impeccable. It was exactly what I wanted. I like my hair coloring to be VERY subtle.... I like the two tone but not the hardcore blonde steaks/etc...just a natural looking highlighted look. EDITED YEARS LATER: Looking back I would say with this experience, the location/décor/stylist/talent/timing/hair...all that jazz.... you get what you pay for. There ARE however, more affordable salons out there that can do an excellent job as well. You're basically paying EXTRA to feel spoiled and pampered for a short period of time. Unfortunately, I had a very poor experience trying to even book an appointment with Jennifer Kazanjian. I wanted to post a review to share my frustrating experience so others are aware of what could happen. Jen books her appointments via text or Instagram DM. I initially contacted her 2/24/2020 to book an appointment. She responded and said that she was on vacation until 3/3/2020 but she would let me know her openings... no problem there, I totally get that but...She never contacted me after her vacation to follow up and book an appointment.... Frustrating right but I was willing to let that go. I contacted her again 5/24/2020 when she started advertising on Instagram she had appointments available for new clients. She replied and scheduled me for Wednesday 7/22/2020... So a TWO month wait! Yicks, but fine, I booked the appointment and paid the $30 deposit. Now today is 6/22/2020 a month away from my appointment after I've been eagerly waiting a LOOONG time and I received this message from Jen "Hey girl! I'm so sorry I need to cancel our spot - I'm going to be out of town for my bday that day, what's your Venmo so I can send you the deposit back-!"..... I was shocked by how unprofessional this was. Her Instagram states she has 13 years experience in the industry... but she doesn't schedule and keep appointments.. I was surprised she didn't ever bother to offer rescheduling... Through my experience I could see Jen has no respect for my time or efforts as a new client. I wish I would have read some reviews sooner as there are others that warn of scheduling appointment issues. Needless to say, I will be going to a different salon where my time will be respected and my business appreciated. read more

I had a wonderful experience at Preen. I called to make an appointment and the staff was cordial and worked to find a stylist that would fit best with what I wanted to do to my hair. That person was Tera. I showed up to my appointment and was offered a beverage right away, the salon has a nice vibe. Tera introduced herself and was on time with my appointment. I showed her scattered images that I had found online of what I had in mind and she made it a reality. She also explained different ways to style an do my hair on my own to get different effects. Edward is awesome!! He is very professional and on top of his game. I just sit down and let him work. I always leave with beautiful color and cut. He cares very much for his clients. When I needed an onsite stylist for my wedding to do my hair and four bridesmaids I hired Edward. He made sure we all looked great, and when one of my bridesmaids accidentally messed her hair up he re-styled it for her. He even stayed untill I put my wedding dress on to make sure I didn't need to be re-styled. I would recommend him to anyone. Blow dry bar is great when you just want a quick do! The boutique is stocked w/ a large variety of beautiful & unusual products & gifts.....free gift wrapping too! Fun to browse. Carlos did my hair including color, cut & style. He did a great job & made it fun! I love the atmosphere & decor but especially the friendly, courteous staff. This was my second time at the salon, and I was seeing someone new to color my hair. I walked in with dark brown hair and said I wanted a richer brown with subtle caramel highlights. I walked out with bright red roots and a ton of huge blonde streaks in my hair. I said I was really not happy when she was blow drying that I did not want red at all and that it was really red at the roots, which shouldn't happen if you are making the roots darker. It was late and the salon was closing and she said it would wash out (which really made no sense), but if it didn't she would fix it. A week later it looked worse, so I called the salon and they said they couldn't really help because she, amongst many other stylist are independent contractors. The stylist does get back to me and is willing to fix my hair. (At this point I'm upset she didn't fix it before I left because now I'm walking around with bright red roots) we set up a time and that afternoon she asks if I can come in earlier, because the salon closes an hour after my appointment. No, I'm so busy and it's hard enough for me to get back to the salon so you can fix your mistakes. And how did you not know 2 days ago what time the salon you work at closes? Needless to say my hair was never fixed at this salon. And I will never come back here, even to another stylist. read more

So I schedule an appointment for the first time at this place and since i was a new customer I was sternly told about thier 24 cancelation policy and what not. Then day of my appointment I get a call saying they are running behind schedule and ask if I can move it to 2 hours later. Which im pretty sure was a regular that probably popped in and had to get something done. I agree being that I was free. However, when I got to my new appointment which was 2 hours after my original, they again said they are running behind and ask if I could wait just 20 minutes more. I again said sure because I have already wasted 2 hours whats 20 more minutes. I come back after getting coffee 35 minutes later to give them sometime and again they said it would be 15 to 20 more minutes and that they were sorry and just backed up with a new client. I appreciate their empathy but yea fuck them waisting 3 hours of my day and on top of that having a stern warning abouy thier cancelation policy. So, if you do go here and schedule an appointment do not feel bad about canceling on them. And since they think I have all this free time to waste, I will waste it on make tons of fake appointments for which I will be delayed for 3 hours and almost there and then canceled. read more

I've been coming here for a while now , but I will seriously be re thinking that. I booked a highlight and a cut the same as every time a full highlight not a partial. Well, I get booked for a partial even though my last appointment was for a full. So now I get to walk out of the salon with half my head covered in outgrowth. As I'm protesting I'm told they simply don't have time to fix it.....****UPDATE For my honest review of my personal experience at Preen I was asked to leave with wet hair by hairdresser Denise. I am very disappointed with Lawrence at Preen. He is never even near on time, and he does not notify you to let you know that he will be late. I waited 40 minutes for him yesterday without him even acknowledging that I was there and then I left. He was still working on someone else when I walked out. The staff at the front desk are lovely and friendly, but I would not recommend Lawrence. He will only take cash or check and he is extremely expensive. His highlights are nice, but his haircuts are very average. The last haircut that I got from him, I had to have someone else fix it. read more

I too must rave about Preen. I must disclose that I know one of the two owners quite well, but this would be a five star experience anywhere. The space is incredibly relaxing. It actually is a sanctuary- candles, fireplace, soft light- in contrast to busy, chaotic spas like Spectrum. Tamera has been my esthetician for many, many years and she can't be compared. I live in San Francisco now, but refuse to get a facial from anyone but her. She's knowledgeable, friendly and her facials are effective without hurting. Should of listened to all of the previous reviews. Awful customer service. Called at 9:30am to see if I could get a massage. I was told yes they had an opening at 1200 with Amber. I got there 30min prior to my appointment and by 1215 no reason why Amber was late! Well I do have to say the front desk girl tried to give me a tour of the salon since it was 1205 and I was waiting! Prior to this review, I have had three color/cut/blow-out appts with the same stylist at Preen, on a five week interval schedule. I always schedule future appts at the end of my current appt. so I'm assured of a convenient time slot. This morning went for my "scheduled" appt, checked in at reception, and after looking at her computer, the staff person said, "great, I'll let her know you're here." I had noted my stylist was finishing up with another client when I walked in. I waited....waited, and after 30 min. went back to reception, same person, and asked if my stylist had been notified I was waiting. She told me she had texted her. I told reception that a 30 min wait was getting into unacceptable territory and she agreed, apologized, and double checked me again in the computer, where, lo and behold, she couldn't find me. (Made me wonder what was she thinking when my name hadn't shown up in the 9:00 a.m. time slot when I first checked in!!) After a brief exchange, she apologized again, but that was the extent of problem solving. I had booked for a color with highlights, cut, and blow-out, at least a $200 appt slot. Not including tip. I told reception, after seeing the absence of problem solving skills, lack of public relations skills, and minimalist acknowledgement of my distress, that I was leaving and I walked out. The bottom line: This is a high end salon that seems to hold themselves in a more positive and favorable image than what I experienced this morning. I have recently moved back to Fresno after living in the east bay area for awhile and had become accustomed to a more customer-oriented, sophisticated type of salon environment in the bay area with similar pricing. Preen management needs to work with front desk staff in training whoever is standing behind that counter in how to handle the public. Is Preen truly interested in building working relationships with their clientele? My stylist did not even call me later to followup or "fix" the problem. The person who helped me this morning was coiffed to the nines, but lacked humanity and imparted a false sincerity which is easily picked up on by professionals. Preen is one of the best salons I have been to in the Fresno area. My stylist was Edward. He is professional, knowledgable, and gave me one of the best haircut and color treatments I've ever had. Preen Salon is pricey but well worth it. The chairs in the procressing room are comfortable and the shampoo chairs are in fact massage chairs. Talk about being pampered. I highly recommend this salon and Edward Madrigal. read more
