Let's begin with the basics. Precision Garage arrived early and were sitting outside my town home prior to the appointed time. Their technician Doug B listened carefully to the problem and methodically looked at the opener and door mechanism. Though the opener initially appeared to be working (typical) Doug concentrated on some issues with the garage door that were undoubtedly making the opener work harder than necessary. He realigned door panels, repositioned the door pivot, reduced spring tension, lubricated hinges and up/down set points while working the problem. After several cycles with the opener (a ten year-old LiftMaster) it began to operate erratically and Doug made a strong reasoned case that the motor was failing. Without any pressure I had the option to: a) persevere with the existing opener until it completely failed b) replace the motor in the existing unit or c) go with a new one Since I'd already done my internet homework I made the call to go with a new opener, the LiftMaster 8550, a belt-drive, smartphone-enabled model that I had read about. Doug had one in the truck and he spoke highly of the belt drive, saying I wouldn't believe how quiet it was... and he was right. Within an hour Doug had the new mechanism installed, remotes programmed, and outside keypad mounted and active. He cleaned up, removed the old opener and gave me the remainder of a can of silicon lubricant for the door to use proactively if the door made any noise. My wife absolutely loves the new opener, it operates so quietly it can't be heard in the living room directly above the garage, while I can hear my neighbor's chain drive next door. It took twenty minutes to enable the myQ connection: plugging in the supplied internet module to my router; creating a myQ account; downloading the iPhone app and adding the device to the app. Now I can open/close the garage door using my smartphone and monitor its status from anywhere I have an internet connection. It wasn't cheap (totaling about twice the cost of the opener as listed online) but seemed a good value considering all the work done on the door and the perfect install and configuration. I would definitely recommend Precision Garage Door and Doug B to anyone having problems in the bay area. read more

I highly recommend Mike at Precision Overhead Garage Door Services. In addition to the very competitive pricing, the Service includes a 25 point safety check. Mike's customer service experience is fantastic, he is knowledgeable ,efficient and above all a kind . I recommend having a tune up done; preventive maintenance on a garage door ? (who knew). Having the spring break on my garage door was unnerving and more common than I thought, I'm happy to recommend Mike and Precision Overhead Garage Door Services. read more

I rarely write reviews because I believe good customer service should be the standard for business. However, I have had some garage door woes before so I think its important to hire a HONEST professional who isnt just going to take your money! when someone goes above and beyond the call of duty then I want to recognize them. AL of Precision Garage Door was a TRUE professional and helped me through every aspect of my garage door dilemma-from identifying the best door for my garage, walking me thru the process with my HOA and checking in with me to ensure communication with the office ran smoothly. I highly recommend this company, ask for Al to install your garage door, you'll be happy you did. read more

One star for showing up the same day. I was in a bind and needed my garage door fixed. Guy comes out and gives me and estimate of $225. I agree, and he then fixes it in less than 30 seconds! Of which he spent 20 seconds oiling my door! Clearly I should have gotten a second estimate, and obviously I agreed to it. Still, I felt completely ripped off, and no I will never recommend them or use them ever again. read more

My overhead garage door opener stopped working after about 6 years (i.e. the trolley came off the track). Precision's Technician, Paulino, told me the garage door opener had burned-out, and he strongly recommended that I buy his Craftsman (instead of the one I just bought), as well as replace most of the associated garage door railings, rollers, spring, bolts, etc. The total including taxes was $1379, which I considered significantly over-priced, but I needed to get it done. One week later, although I had not touched anything, the Craftsman stopped working (the trolley came off the track), so I called Precision to have them fix it. He told me, as if he were doing me a favor, that Precision wouldn't charge me this time, but in the future, they would. Then, just two weeks later, the same problem happened (trolley came off the track), and the door wouldn't open or close unless I manually adjusted it. This adjustment would hold for a few days, and then not work. So I called Precision, and insisted on someone more knowledgeable come fix it permanently. They sent out Frank, and he fixed it...temporarily. I had to have a technician (Andy) come out again when the garage door wouldn't close one week later. He adjusted the power, and it started working again...for maybe two weeks. So, I had a 4th techie come out, and he tried a different approach, but with the same results. Overall, a negative experience, considering it took visits by 4 different technicians in the two months following installation, and it still malfunctions once or twice per week, refusing to close until I get out of my car, walk into the garage, pressing the wall switch until the door fully closes, and then I have to go out the front door and get back into my car. read more

Hold on to your wallets boys and girls! Scheduled a Precision Garage Door "tech" to come out to assess my garage door that was out of alignment and would not open completely. After his arrival, I received a verbal quote from the "tech" that it would cost anywhere from $700 to $1000 to fix! He told me that he would have to remove the door, replace the springs at an hourly rate of $175 PER HOUR. Declined the quote and paid the $49.95 "service call" fee. The whole ordeal lasted about 15 minutes. Called Econo-Doormasters in Belmont and they said they could have a service tech out right away. The super nice tech assessed the problem in about 5 minutes immediately identifying the issue. He had the parts in his truck, did not need to remove the garage door, tightened bolts and lubricated the entire system all for $149 which took about 1/2 hour. The door is extremely quiet and works like it was new!! read more

I needed to replace my garage door and decided to shop around. Precision was not the cheapest but not the most expensive. I liked the door options and their door came with higher insulated Value. So I picked them and they charged the normal 10% to start the process. I was told due to covid it's taking about 10 weeks (February 2021). 12 weeks later no call or email, I decided to call and ask questions. They took my name and said someone will call me back. Well we played this game for 2-3 weeks. Finally I get someone and they apologized said they had my door for some time but paper work got misplaced. They set me up an appointment in a week. Installer was good. Before he left I pointed out that the weather strip was ripped he took pictures and said some one will be by to fix that next week (June). It is now August, I started calling and no return call but they did sure charge me, inconvenience me and show the are full of BS with their motto of "someone will call you back with in 24 hours". That was actually totally true before they received payment! read more

I agree to the earlier yelper, female should not hire this company. Their guy trying to rip off my mother. We paid them the visiting fee and let them go after they quoted us $800 to replace parts. We had someone else came over and said our garage only need a balance. This is my first review, thank you! read more

Our garage door stopped opening. I could hear the opener operating, but door wouldn't budge. We have no other access into our garage except through the main door (wish we had secondary access). We couldn't open the door manually, so we had no idea what was going on, but suspected a broken spring. Initially, we tried calling two local garage door repair companies (Oakland) but even during normal business hours could only reach a recording. Had we called Precision from the start, we could have had the door repaired in the early evening for no extra charge (per their website). We were given a 2 hour window for the repair tech. to show up, Rick arrived, with about 30 seconds to spare. I was immediately informed of an additional $185 fee to open the door because we had no other access (I sure wish we had secondary access to the garage!). Within an hour, Rick had provided estimated costs, suggested we replace the single broken torsion springs, with a pair, banking on the odds that the next time a spring broke, the remaining spring would allow us to open the door manually and save ourselves the additional $185. So, two torsion springs ($284), a center bearing ($70), a service call ($50) and the charge to get into the garage ($185) the door works great. I wish it hadn't cost over $600, but we have an operable garage door. Springs came with 5 year warranty (though their invoice references an optional lifetime warranty as does their website). Since we plan to stay here for a long while, I would have liked the lifetime warranty cost option. We did experience some damage to our door during the repair process. We have an exterior key lock release to disengage the door from the opener. When the lock is open, the lock cylinder hangs down from the door and gets caught between the door panels, causing a nasty crease in the metal door. Rick didn't notice the lock was open and when he opened the door the lock damaged the door, we now have a pair of what looks like bullet holes in our door. I would call Precision again if I needed immediate access to the garage during off hours, but if I had the luxury of time, I would probably shop around to compare prices. I feel like we really paid a premium for the work. read more

****BEWARE***** They are the biggest scams in the world. I had them come to the house because my garage door wasn't operating correctly. They had a service call for $49.95. If I moved forward with the work they suggested, they wouldn't charge me the s/c. The guy looked at the door, rollers and garage door motor (3 minutes max) and told me that I needed the following: new rollers, new pins. He stated that the real problem was the motor. My total bill to correct everything was around $900.00. I told him he was a scam and removed him immediately from my home. I called Door mart garage door at 1.800..829.9833 the following morning. All I needed was to have a few adjustments to the overall power and I didn't need to replace the rollers, pins or motor and my total bill was $106.75. HUGE DIFFERENCE. I will write a great review for Door mart garage. thanks for reading. read more

Will try to be fair here... Had 2 broken springs on my garage door, called Precision, they told me on the phone it would be $320 for the repair. Set an appointment and they said the tech would call when he was on the way. About an hour later the tech showed up (no phone call, but in the time they said he would arrive). He looked at the 2 broken spring and a loose hinge and said the door needed an overhaul, $987. My senses told me this was just wrong and I sent the tech packing. It just felt like he was padding the bill to pad his pocket.... I called the Door Doctor in Pleasanton, they came out and replaced the door springs, tightened the hinge, adjusted the garage door opener. All for less than the original $320 quote from Precision. Our door works great, no thank to Precision. read more

The spring on my garage door broke, so I called Precision and the phone operator quoted $189 plus a $25 service fee. They sent out Paulino and within a few minutes he said the repair would cost $800+. Springs $229, cables $200, bearing $450 and extra to replace the loose roller. I declined his service. He yelled at me saying this was a service call and not a estimate. I called him out for price gouging. He left saying he didn't want his service fee. So beware and don't be that sucker. A different company replaced my spring and cables for $240. He also tighten everything up and greased the door, all within 30 minutes. Door works like new. read more

Charged me $50 for a quick inspection and to tell me to buy a new garage door. Very disappointed.

My mom and dad recently had a problem with the garage door at their home and could not get the car out. Since it was afternoon they thought it would be difficult to get someone to come same day. They called Precision Door Service and the very polite, friendly staff assured them that someone from their repair department would come out that day. Later in the day an office member called to say it would be a little longer then they thought due to a difficult repair they were currently working on BUT, that the repairman would definitely be out there same day - just a little later than first anticipated. My mother and father commented on how polite and thoughtful it was that the company would call. It was early evening when Mike Rodgers arrived and came to my parents aide. He was very knowledgeable, friendly and trustworthy. Everything needed to make the repair was in his truck and he quickly completed the repair. In addition he checked the other garage doors. I'm sure it had already been a long day for him but he did not show it - he was professional and helpful all the way through. He is such a quality young man! My parents (who aren't familiar with yelping) asked me to post this to be SURE the company is aware of how pleased they were with Mike - a great experience - and to let the company know they will gladly recommend Mike and Precision Door to friends and neighbors. Side note...anyone who takes THAT good of care of my parents I am happy to recommend as well. Thank you Precision Door, and thank you Mike. read more

Gosh! Garage doors are expensive! I'm old enough to remember when - gasp! many people opened their own garage doors, by hand. And we had to GET UP to change the channel on the TV. Really. Did you know that HANG UP the phone comes to us because people used to literally use their hands / arms and "hang up" the phone onto a receiver? Yes they did. (I bet if you were born after 1990 you had no idea...) But nowadays, we are addicted to our devices. God forbid we get out of our cars and open our garage doors with physical labor. Or get out and go INTO McDonald's rather than thru the drive thru. But I digress. Oh yes, garage doors. They're expensive. GARAGE DOORS MOTORS - THEY DIE AND GO TO GARAGE DOOR HEAVEN Our aging model DIED about 5 months ago, and Hector of Precision Garage Door came out to us in Fremont, and fixed it. It was not cheap. But the service was fantastic, and he did a wonderful job. He even took it away, and I am sure gave it a proper burial and sent it off to garage door heaven (otherwise known as recycling). GARAGE DOOR SPRINGS - THEY DIE AND GO TO GARAGE DOOR SPRING HEAVEN Then just a few days ago BANG the spring broke. Another quickie call, and out came Hector. Again, not cheap. But that's life in the Big City. I am sure our Springs have now joined the motor in garage door heaven, where life is just one big lubrication of WD-40 and free electricity. REALITY: THE PRICE THE SERVICE THE EXPERIENCE I think the price is competitive with the market, but the service is very, very good, and based on all the other Yelp reviews, as well as my own experience I would recommend this company. And - just so you are not the typical American, struggling with weight and bad health (I can do better, too) - I promise. Try this - 1) Get OUT of your car and go INTO McDonalds. 2) Get UP out of your couch and walk over to the TV to change the channel. 3) Get OUT of your car and GO IN through your front door. Take a walk in nature. Love the earth. YES I love my Garage Door. YES it's wonderfully convenient, but YES I like everyone else would do well to be more physically active, enjoy nature, and then really appreciate the miracles of modern life: 7-11 big gulps, drive-thru's, remote controls, and garage doors. Thank you Precision Garage Door! I have a working, quiet wonderful garage door. read more

Brandon the technician that initially assessed my door and also did the installation would get 5+ stars. He was professional, took time to explain the process, always kept me updated on his progress, knowledgable about the Marantec opener I requested, quality of work was excellent and cleaned up after the job was completed. The 4 stars was due to the fact that I had to follow-up with them directly after Brandon initially placed the order for the door opener. That said, I would definitely recommend Precision and if you get to pick your technician - I would request Brandon! read more

Horrible and unprofessional service!! We called Precision regarding a garage door problem. The technician recommended that changing the rollers will solve the problem. The job was done in 45 minutes but charged $ 279 which is a super markup for this job. Unfortunately the problem persisted so we called the company again. The company gave us the time of 8.00-10.00 am but nobody showed up until 9.45. The technician then calls to say that he is running late and will be at home between 11.30-12.30. When I contacted the company at 12.30, they made up the story that the appt was cancelled. Instead of taking the responsibility for their own mistake, the operator hung up and wasted my 5 hrs in the process. Not only SUPER EXPENSIVE BUT ALSO INCOMPENTENT! When the torsion spring on our two car garage door cracked in half the garage door was closed and we were upstairs in our town home. It must have just worn out with age. It let off such a loud BOOM it sounded like an earthquake in our garage. We went down to see what it was but couldn't figure out what caused the sound. When we tried to use the door later that night we eventually figured out that the spring had broken. We picked Precision Garage Doors because their website looked so professional. I called them in the morning and they scheduled us for 6:30pm that day. Hector was the technician they sent. He was going to be running late and called to let us know he would be late but would definitely show up same day. When he arrived he explained our repair options and then fixed the broken spring quickly. He took the time to lube the door tracks while I got our landlord on the phone to give his credit card info for payment. Hector handled our somewhat unusual payment method with the same ease he repaired the door. The entire experience with Precision was smooth, fast, friendly and easy. I have never had a spring replaced but for same day service I thought the price ($250) was fair. read more

Called them because a garage door was intermittently having trouble closing and I agreed to the $49 diagnostic fee, half of which would be waived if I had any work done. Scheduling and rescheduling was easy, and technician did show up in the time frame. Also, the door does seem to be fixed for now. The bad: The technician did a very poor job of explaining what was wrong and what needed fixing. I was on the phone with him while the lady of the house was at the home. I couldn't tell why he wanted to charge $225 for a sensor adjustment or $750 for a new motor. To put this in context, at Home depot, you can buy a brand new motor for $150 to $200 and they install it for around $100 to $150. So I called Precision door service directly and they checked with the technician and called me back and explained to me that my options were to get a sensor adjustment and motor force adjustment or replace the whole motor. I asked about the price and was told that I'd have to talk to the technician about that. I called the technician back and told him not to do anything and he basically yelled at me that he'd already completed his repair and had already left. As far as I can tell, no parts were replaced. Only about half of what is written on the receipt is legible, and I was charged $225 for less than 45 minutes of him being there from start to finish. read more
