If you are looking for the best eye doctor I have ever encountered look no further. Before I met…read moreDr. Mehul Patel I was very unsure about getting eye surgery. Once I met him I no longer felt like a number or a means to an end. I decided to move forward with the surgery and could have not been more reassured prior to the procedures or happier with the results after. The care he took was short of unheard of, down to the drop schedule he provided me. He is surely one of the best. I asked if I could be the president of his fan club but I'm sure there are others vying for the same spot. Thank you for your time, kindness and expertise. You are very special and I hope your students learn everything for you.

The best ophthalmologist by far in Orlando. I have never experienced the type of service from any…read moreDr as I did with Dr. Mehul Patel. I had my cataracts surgery in both eyes and I will say it has been the best investment I have done overall. Going from 2.5 prescription for reading and also needing glasses to see far away, now I can see 20/20. Best experience ever, always receiving the best care from Dr. Patel. He personally called me to see how I was doing before and after the surgery of each eye. He was always willing to answer every question. When I went for surgery I was sure of what I wanted and what to expect. The results were outstanding and far better than I expected. The staff was awesome! A+++

The folks at this practice were able to get her in the same day if we were willing to wait. We ended up only waiting about an hour. Everyone at the practice was nice, caring and very professional. Dr Gilmer gave her a thorough exam, was respectful and listened well. He ended up referring her to a specialist - but in the process he was able to rule out a more serious problem. She really liked him and will be going back from her regular eye care and following up on her cataracts.

Cataract surgery is one of the most often performed surgeries in the USA, and the surgery has…read morearound a 98% success rate. I am sorry to say that things did not work out well for me. Dr. Gilmer placed the artificial lens in an area which the lens manufacturer does not recommend and that caused exfoliation material from my iris clogging up the eyes drainage network. The clogging of the drainage network caused very high eye pressure that could not be relieved with medicinal eye drops. A second surgery was performed to reset the lens, however, resetting the lens did not relieve the very high eye pressure. Dr. Gilmer told me that if the high eye pressure was not quickly corrected I would lose my vision in that eye. He offered to do a laser surgery, but by that time, for several reasons which I will explain later, I had lost all confidence in Dr. Gilmer. I contacted a glaucoma specialist who performed four additional surgeries before the high eye pressure was sufficiently relieved. I estimate that I have lost around 75 to 80% of my vision in that eye. While being treated by Dr. Gilmer I was subjected to verbal abuse on two occasions and he blamed me for the surgery going wrong and that could not be further from the truth. I am in excellent health and have a very good immune system. It is my opinion that Dr. Gilmer tries to come across as a very friendly and caring physician and at first he fooled me. However, when the going got tough he was far from charming or caring. It is my opinion that he blames others for his short comings and that underneath his charming exterior lurks one of the "entitled".
