I love these guys! Not only do they do good work but in times of crisis they are so accomidating. Last Friday 6/25/2021 I was on my way to a funeral service and my jeep was making a strange noise so I went straight to precision. Told them I would be at a funeral all day so taking a call would be difficult. Jimmy the owner took care of me and he checked my car and called before I even got to the service. It was a tire issue and needed to go to a tire place. Jimmy was awsome and offered to take my jeep to Big O tires where I go for oil changes and tires. He took it there and it was taken care of. I had my car towed here because my starter died on me. Had to make it to work on a Monday morning so I called in and they helped me take care of getting my repairs done without having to physically go in which was very helpful. Late morning, they gave me an overview of the repairs and recommended I needed brakes as well. After a reasonable quote and guarantee of same day service completion, I decided to do all recommended repairs. I even got a first time visit deal. I gotta say this place really rocks. I had been having some trouble with my vehicle( an older vw jetta model) where it wouldn't go into reverse. I wasn't sure why but I knew I needed a good mechanic to help me out. I'm new to the area so I searched places with good reviews and Precision Auto Care was top of the list. I can see why now, because when I went in they were very personable and helpful. I originally thought I was gonna be there for a couple hours so I gave myself a window of time. Low and behold tho about 30 minutes later one of the mechanics had found an oil cap that I had lost a couple months ago in the linkage which is what stopped it from going in reverse. One million stars! My Jeep was savaged by crackheads at the Bay Fair BART station (holes drilled in gas tank to steal the gas, battery stolen, lock drilled on my lockbox, etc). I called Precision Auto in a panic around 5:30pm on a weekday, looking for somewhere to tow it after making a police report, as their shop is right down the street from my house. Jimmy said he'd stay open late to receive my poor Jeep! He did so, and was super nice when I was having a pretty darned bad day so far. He worked with my insurance adjustor to get everything settled, did the work, and even gave me a free oil change while my Jeep was in there! (He noticed my oil change sticker in the window and saw I was just about due.) He even sent one of his guys to put some gas in my tank before giving my vehicle back to me. He was in communication with me regularly, explained everything to me kindly and clearly without being condescending (can't take that for granted, I've had some dude mechanics talk down to me because I'm a chick), and everyone at his shop was SO nice. Cannot recommend this business enough. My husband is going to take his Toyota 4Runner here, and I won't take my Jeep anywhere else. read more

I brought my car here after my mom's co worker said she's been going here for years. My regular mechanic is in Newark so I wanted to find a place closer. My steering wheel was almost impossible to turn while driving, so I first called to explain to them what was going on. Once me and my mother met up and were waiting for AAA, we just called to let them know it was on the way. Her voice was with an attitude as if annoyed that we were calling to give them the heads up. I had it on speaker so it that took my mom and I by surprise. Later, my check engine light comes on, so I took it to auto zone to get a read. Said it for the steering wheel pressure sensor. Huh?!?! I just paid $300 to get my steering wheel fixed. I called to see what was going on, and he said he never touched it, only fixed the pump and the belt. Why was this not noticed when I brought it in? And the first thing you say is I never touched it? Not, bring it in let me take a look. You fix my steering wheel, my check engine light comes on for the same thing and now you have no clue!?!?! Yea, no thanks. That's bad business, and based off his response he wasn't going to fix it for free even though he just did work on it. read more

The owner Jim has worked on several of our cars and even saved me from having to buy another car when the Dodge dealership told me that our car was not fixable, he worked on it got another two years out of it. He has a very busy shop and you can trust that he is never going to do anything to the car that isn't necessary because he isn't "hungry". I am newly in love with precision auto care. I called this morning, president's day, new customers, just arrived in the neighborhood. I needed help with the 2008 Subaru Outback I had given my teenage son, which was making a horrible noise. Precision #1, said to come in right away although they were busy, and #2, fixed the problem by the afternoon. If we had kept driving with this problem it would have been more damaging to the car and dangerous to drive. In addition, the oil was low-ish, belts needed to be replaced, filters, etc. They got it all at a very reasonable price. Best of all, when my dopey kid picked up the car, the mechanics took the time to show him how to check the oil. What a lovely bunch. I'm definitely going back. read more

Great place! The ever dreadful Check Engine light came on Wednesday afternoon and I was heading out of town that weekend. Not sure what to do so I found PAC and called them. Spoke w/ Jimmy who said come down and I'll get the code and we'll go from there. It was almost closing time and he said he'll stay there till I get there, 15mins away. Jumped in the car and headed over. Read it and didn't charge me and order the part to come back when I got back. Super friendly, quick and honest. Have since taken the Durango back again for other work. As long as the Durango is the Bay it will be serviced by Jimmy and team! He even took it over to a place to get it smogged for me! i will definitely vote for zero star, not even worth for 1 star. We noticed this since our company van is broken down today. We took it to a check and was told the engine oil was very old which had not been replaced. The old engine oil leads the belt to be broken. In fact, we paid $122.85 +labor for quantity of 3 engine oil to Precision Auto Care at 2/1/19 to do the replacement. Regardless of the store charged 3 buckets of engine, the van will only need 2 at most. Most importantly, our invoice showed we did the engine oil replacement. Apparently, they did not replace. If they did, it is not acceptable that $200 of engine oil will only last for 4 months. The service they charged is way higher than other stores which are not reasonable. read more

My car wouldn't start Friday afternoon. I called around 4:30pm and a very friendly woman answered. I asked if I could have my car towed there and she said absolutely and they would look at it first thing Monday when they re-opened. By 8:30am that Monday I had already received a call letting me know it was just a simple dead battery and my car was already ready for pickup. I drove in a few hours later, picked up my car, and had great service from the person checking me out. I plan to go back for any issue in the future! read more

This review is over due...the experience is from when my fiancé took her 1999 Honda Civic to this shop when she was having some issues with the car randomly "stalling out/shutting off" while driving. They were up front and said that if it were electrical, it may be hard to diagnose, but they would give it a go. She ended up having them replace a relay as an attempt to fix the problem. A few days later the car was still having the same issues. So she asked me to go in with her to explain to the mechanic what I thought it was. Initially I questioned whether it was related to her after market alarm and the ignition kill switch function, perhaps the alarm brain was failing and causing the switch to shut off. So I asked, "Is it possible that the ignition switch or the alarm are causing a problem? It almost seems like the car is electronically 'turning off'." The guy at the counter flatly said, that couldn't be the problem and the other possible solutions may total up to $650 in additional parts and labor. She ended up not having the repairs done and two weeks later I took the car to the Honda Dealership for an oil change and they let me know there was a recall from 2002 on the ignition switch that "could cause the vehicle to shut off while driving." Honda fixed it for free and it's been problem free for almost a year now. These guys were very nice and tried to be helpful and did everything they could to not unreasonably charge her for repairs she did not need. The fact of the matter and the reason for 2 stars is I asked about the problem and it was dismissed was agrivating. I've been told that a lot of auto shops will run checks for Recalls to see if there are known problems with vehicles. Had this been done, it would have saved her the first repair which was around $150 bucks for the first attempt. read more

They are very fast and efficient here, however at the end of the day, they did not properly diagnose and resolve my automotive issue. Rather than taking my car in for a third time, I elected to go to S&K (down the street on E 14th). Additionally, my family had been taking their automobiles to Precision for years, but the courtesy "discount" I was to receive as a result of that was no less than any other repair place. My first time at the shop was this week, and I had a great experience. Car overheated, and I wasn't sure if there was any damage to the motor. The staff did a great job diagnosing the problem (failed hose), and repaired at a fair price. They even noticed my brake light was out, and replaced multiple bulbs for free. So I brought my vehicle to Precision Auto Care in San Leandro, CA, based on the great reviews they received. I'm so glad I made this choice. The staff is great, friendly & very honest. Turns out all I needed to replace was my Output Shaft Speed Sensor. They fixed the issue and it only cost $230. I don't need a new transmission. While waiting for the car, I could hear the phone calls to different parts companies for ordering parts,as well as to customers and was totally impressed with concern with parts being too much and telling a customer what a part price was but they were able to get for a whole lot less, which is what I had just heard on the call with the wholesaler. WOW! I am impressed. They are very honest, fair, skilled, friendly, on time, efficient, and did some extra work for me for free. I had taken my car to another shop and after nearly $400 later I was told that I needed a full-fledged mechanic to work on my car. Huh? Wasn't I at a mechanics' shop already and why wasn't I told that they really only do tune-ups? I checked around and was told to go to Jimmy at Precision Auto in San Leandro. Well, Jimmy took care of me. He told me that the other place should have spotted the problem right away by pulling one wire off and seeing the result. Jimmy was fabulous. He kept me up-to-date on everything and my car is running like it's brand new. He wants me to drive a 1000 miles, bring it in, and he will give me a FREE oil change just to make sure everything is in top shape. Unbelievable. I DEFINITELY recommend him. Corvette Club members recommend this shop last year. Have had three repairs for my 2001 C5 convertible. Each was job fairly priced and work well done and through. They took the time to show the stuff that was replaced and explained in detail what was done. This is a neat place just to walk around in. Apparently many locals bring their custom stuff here. Always seems to have some Vettes, Stangs, & other really cool rides in the shop.. Although their specialty is Vette's and Mustangs (ugh)..the do work on other vehicles too. I wanted to wait to write this to see if my car gave me any current problems it hasn't so... I had an appointment for my 2004 Dodge Durango that was constantly over heating if I drove for more than 15mins. It took half a day for them to look at my car and the other half to figure out what was wrong. I received a call around 5pm from the main mechanic( he handled everything but I never found out if he was the owner, older age Hispanic male dark grayish hair) who informed me "something is terribly wrong with this car". I rushed back and was told my car was no good that I was sold a lemon and would have to pay $3,000 PLUS to get my head gasket repaired. He pressured me to leave my car there (which also costs more to do) even though I lived down the street. He told me I would ruin the car even more if I attempted to drive it. I was really torn and upset and expressed there was no way I could pay for that as I had just bought the car. He was unwilling to budge on the price and said it was actually a good deal because it could possibly come out to even more. After calling my mother(always a good idea) she told me to go home and call different places that would do cheap diagnostic tests before I spent all that money. I found a spot in Oakland (who also has EXCELLENT ratings on Yelp) that did a diagnostic test for $50 no strings attached. They called me within an hour to inform me that the problem with my car would cost less than $200 to fix!! Precision Auto Care did the same diagnostic test so I don't understand how they came up with a $3,000 job. I would hate to think that they saw a very young female, alone, with a 2month old baby and thought that they could take advantage of that. Maybe the main mechanic doing all the work genuinely did not know what was wrong with my car and took a guess. Either way I just wanted to encourage other people to get a second opinion! My car has been running excellent for almost a year now. read more

My boyfriend and I had just bought a jeep yesterday, up north and it already started giving us problems with the water pump and Axel. We came down this way for a little vacation with friends until our next job. We had little money, but getting the car fixed was a priority. We went to other mechanics and they quoted 1000 and up. Someone recommended this mechanic to us on the street so we went for it. They quoted us much less and discovered the true problems. The water pump was all we could afford and even that was expensive, but then they discovered the Axel was a problem too and we were so scared because we could not afford that. Jimmy was so kind and allowed us to finance and was just a genuinely honest and good person to us. All of the staff were friendly and it was a fantastic experience.
