We arrived at 2:00 en route to Music Mountain for a concert to see if our room was ready. It was not. OK, we returned at 8:00PM and it took two people more than 15 minutes to check me in. The young man had said earlier that we have the room with the porch, as you requested. I did not request a porch. When the checking in process was nearly completed, it was made clear that our room was on the ground floor. I said that I definitely did not want to stay on the ground floor and asked if there was a room on the second floor. I do not think that the young man fully understood me as he showed me a floor plan with our room number (as evidence of a porch) and I repeated that we did not want a room on the 1st floor, but we were very tired and I gave up and took the key. The entrance to the room is on the corner of the porch - with windows on two sides. I was thinking about how anyone walking on the porch would definitely wake us up. The room itself was SAD. There were curtain rods, but no curtains, just blinds. The lighting was grim. There were three pillows in the king sized bed and the spare pillow in the closet was a queen. At 8:30 AM a staff member began using a leaf blower on the porch. So, we got out of bed, got dressed and left. Deeply disappointed. Never again. Two stars are for a clean bathroom.

The biggest difference from what we normally do is that there was no TV or WiFi. It turned out we survived, nay, thrived without either. We drove around the historic and beautiful countryside, enjoyed a vegetarian breakfast each morning. We were given a bottle of Proseco the first night along with a bottle of home made rose brandy made by the matriarch of the family, that acted like a sleeping potion that night. It was delicious brandy made woth rose and lavender. The alpacas were a delight and I actually go to pet some and get some real closeups of these gentle creatures. Our room was rustic as all getout and incredibly clean and cozy warm. The farm is convenient to wineries, restaurants, historic New Bedford and some real beautiful lakes and woodlands. Believe me, by the time we got finished traveling around western CT all day, we just aout had the energy to go to dinner at some of the dozens of reataurants in the area (reviewed elsewhere). We plan on going back in some warmer weather so we can introduce our parrot to the alpacas. The only thing we missed this trip were the pot bellied pigs, which evedently don't take too well to the cold February temperatures and the snow.

Coming home to alpacas every day and waking up to them each morning was a real treat I think our dog had more fun than we did! If you are expecting a 5 star hotel this place is not for you. It's a loft above a barn where the alpacas stay. This place is truly for someone who is low key and just wants to relax & enjoy nature. The bed is incredibly comfortable, the shower has hot water, the AC is pumping (in mid-July with a lot of humidity), and there are fresh towels when you arrive. Sal also has a recommendation for everything so be sure to ask him about his favorite local spots! One thing I wish we did was bring a cooler and beach towels. We went to Lake Waramaug for the day and we were not prepared. Otherwise our stay on the farm was unique and relaxing!! Plus, Aroma used hot stones towards the end which other places did not and it felt great. The best was my first a reflexologist I stumbled up in London at a salon within a mall. It was painful; like she was stripping my skin of the bone but at the end, it felt like I was walking on pillows. I felt so light on my feet. I've never experienced anything close to again and wish I could. It could be because it was first time and she loosened all the knots and tight foot muscles. The first thing I was asked was, "Do you have an appointment?" No one asked what service I was looking for or made me feel welcomed. The massage itself was also disappointing. He mainly massaged my back, and his hands were very rough. For my legs, he put a towel over them and lightly massaged over/around them. For what was supposed to be a full-body massage, I honestly felt like I paid $45 for almost nothing. On top of that, a woman was talking nearby during my massage, which made it difficult to relax. The worst part was at checkout. I initially planned to leave a tip, but after thinking about the quality of the service, I reduced the amount. The woman looked at what I gave her and said, "That's all?" She then pointed to a sign saying the tip was supposed to be 20%. I explained that their own sign says tips are appreciated. A tip is optional and based on the service received I had already paid the full price for my service. Customers should never be pressured or shamed into leaving a certain percentage, especially after receiving a disappointing service. Between the poor customer service, lackluster massage, noisy environment, and uncomfortable interaction over the tip, I will not be returning.
