As a Division I intercollegiate boxing coach, a competitive runner and tournament golfer, the functioning of my joints is critical. Unfortunately, after decades of training for and running many marathons and races, boxing and coaching boxing and years of golf driving range practice, I sustained usage injuries.
About nine months ago, my orthopedic surgeon diagnosed my partially torn left knee meniscus and MCL - the first joint usage issues I've ever had in my sixty-five years. After working with him, it was apparent that I needed more specifically designed and managed physical therapy than "normally available" to restore as much stability and strength as possible in the joint - the objective being to avoid invasive surgery with the hope of continuing to run. I'm now three months into a personally tailored program with Ann and I'm having great success. Not only have I exponentially strengthened all of the supporting muscle groups and increased stability in the joint, I'm back at running and increasing my mileage weekly.
Unfortunately, three months ago, I also sustained a tear in my right rotator cuff. Again, after diagnosis and consultation with my ortho doctor, I worked with Ann to develop a tailored plan beyond normal PT to regain as much use as possible without a surgery I most want to avoid. At this point, my pain has been greatly reduced, I'm gaining strength and degrees of motion weekly and am back to playing competitive golf four days a week with no issues - for which I'm thankful. Although I'm still limited in some activities, we're still working to gain more pain-free usage and strength.
There are two very important and, to me, unique aspects of working with Ann. The first is that her deep background in a variety of physical therapy techniques and exercises is reflected in the totally personalized program she's created for my exact injury, physical state, capacity to rehabilitate, etc. She can bring together aspects of many different therapies into the optimal mix for my unique situations.
The second centers on her professionalism, the constant and attentive questioning of where I am in the healing process and her level of actually caring as much about my pain, progress, emotional outlook, etc. as I do. She's clearly direct, fact-based and firm in her manner (and the adherence to my assigned exercise regimen at home!) but she's hugely attuned to my particular evolving situation and healing progress. Hard to imagine a better professional than she.
Although her fee situation is outside of the "normal" insurance reimbursement realm, the value added beyond what my doctors and traditional PT have been able to do, there's no question in my mind that the financial cost is greatly outweighed by the physical and state of mind benefits she's given me.
If you have any serious therapy problem, I'd recommend that you consult with Ann. read more
