"They're supposed to be independent," we were told when Dad asked for help making his bed. RN works 40 hr wk, is not there nights/weekends, she does hands on care like bandages, aides not allowed. When touring and signing contract, family was told all staff are in-house employees but aides are mostly outside agency so rotating strangers were providing care who didn't build any bonds with our Dad. Some were caring and wonderful, some were not. (None were abusive.) "Good" activities like going out for lunch or dinner or anywhere are RARE. On Medicaid? $30 left after cable/phone, you can't go unless family pays. So it's mostly the rich kids clique that gets to go places. A HUGE positive is Medicaid residents still get/keep their private rooms, not forced to share a room, and receive exact services and care as the cash payers. Cash pay starts at $5K+/mo for a studio. Our big problem and why we moved Dad out recently- LACK OF PROMISED CARE/ACTIVITIES. We were treated like complainers by apathetic Administrator when we pointed out specific items in Dad's contract not being done. No idea if our issues were ever discussed with nursing director or activity manager but they were never corrected. Dad didn't get twice/week shower, aides spent under 10 mins/day interacting with him, some complained LOUDLY if he'd buzz for a little help standing up from toilet. To their credit, we thought staffing was bare minimum and know CNA turnover is high. Maybe treat them better and pay them more to retain staff? Care was rushed. Calendar activities are a joke, shows many daily options but most are lame worksheets left on door to be done alone. Contract states care and activity plan SPECIFIC to Dad's needs would be written up and followed, which never happened. We were promised (and paying for) stimulating activities and a social life for Dad. He could sit home alone and do nothing for free. He's just a little slow getting around but wanted friends and things to do! Activity woman snippy and defensive when asked about activity plan, would also evade us when we visited. Food is average institutional food, nothing special. The rooms and bathrooms are large and the outside grounds are very nice. We are still waiting on partial month refund almost 3 months after moving Dad out so some issues with the office which they say corporate does the refunds. Heritage Woods of Yorkville is far from terrible but did not come close to meeting our expectations to keep Dad busy and engaged.

The heat was up so high I was very i was soaked with sweat. The place looks and feels dirty. (I honestly feel bad writing this) I don't have any complaints about the aids and nurse practitioner. The recreational lady was kind of strange asking if I want to go to church service. Thank god nurse practitioner said I was too sick to be there and sent me back to the hospital. Like another review mentioned the place was a nightmare for me too. They really need a new building it also looks like the last time they decorated/updated was 1970's.

My family member is diabetic and they did not know how to treat him. Only tested his blood sugars before meals. Countless times we had to tell them they would need to test it to determine if his number was high or low. My family member was there for some physical therapy which the staff never"pushed" a patient to do. I think some encouragement would've been helpful. If we needed to get a hold of the facility at times outside of business, you couldn't unless you contacted the local police to go over. My family and I had zero trust in his caregivers/nurses. Although one nurse and one physical therapist were extremely helpful and friendly, Meggi and Melissa. The nurses and caregivers seemed to be scared of their patients. Definitely try to duck out of rooms quickly. Many times when I was there alarms at the top of patient's rooms were going off for 10 to 20 minutes before a nurse went in there. This place was more of a nightmare than anything, definitely one of the worst experiences for our family.

The staff/ nurses and director of this facility were extremely negligent and put several lives in jeopardy. I am a care giver who was placed here through an agency to assist a sweet elderly client on overnights. There were several nights my client was in pain from her legs and when I would go to advise the nurse, they seem bothered and annoyed. The incident however that really upset me was one night I was there, I came in at 8:30 pm, my client seemed a bit sick as I noticed the tissues in her hand and bed. As the night progressed I noticed she had a very frequent, tight cough. I went and advised the nurse on staff and inquired if she had recently been tested for Covid. The nurse said my client had "several days ago" I responded well several days ago she wasn't showing symptoms and now she is. The nurse still brushed it off and never tested her. The next morning and day my client mingled with other seniors in the facility. I advised my agency I wouldn't be going back the next night until they tested her. Not sure who lied rather it was my agency Always Best Care or a nurse at this facility but I was informed by ABC that a nurse at this facility advised them that she was tested and negative. When I drove in that night I asked my client if they tested her and she said no. I immediately had the nurse on site test her as I became upset and guess what, she tested POSITIVE! When I reached out to the director Sarah Mckan director at the facility to advise of what happened she did not apologize and even said "well you were already exposed the night before" I said yes and yet she wasn't tested when I asked she should and then spent the whole day with other seniors possibly spreading it she said "well yea I guess" I asked that she follow up with me to let me know what the outcome of investigation was and she never did. Received a call from ABC today advising that this facility does not want me to come back. Why because I care more for my client and the patients there than the facility workers? Because I alerted you of negligence from your staff? Interesting. We'll see what the health department has to say about th

My 92-year old mother moved into one of their assisted living studios in the fall of 2014. Up until that point, she had lived on her own, so clearly, she wasn't very enthusiastic about the move. She wasn't as engaged in some of the activities as we might have liked, but it wasn't for lack of the staff's teasing encouragement (which she enjoyed). When her health deteriorated a year or so later, she moved into the more intimate memory care wing in a studio almost identical to the one she'd had, where the staff could keep her under watchful eyes. Before long, a hospice crew became part of her care team. As prickly as my mother could be, she was loved by members of the staff. Several of her caregivers wept the day she died and for me, that said it all. Difficult as it was, we had made the right decision. One other thing worth mentioning: it's not a huge community, so if it's important for your loved one to be in a place where everyone knows everyone else, this is a good choice.
