    Phil's Transmissions

    Phil's Transmissions

Joe Whitlock 10 mins ·…read more One year ago I took my truck to Phil's Transmission to have a complete rebuild done on my transmission. He was paid $4560. For the most part, he was a fair and honest business owner, initially. One month ago, my truck had transmission issues. 4,450 miles were put on my truck in that year and the work he did failed. The parts he put in he swore by and even gave me a 2 year warranty on the work. So, back to Phil's Transmission my truck goes. One month later, I get a phone call from Phil saying the billet low stall converter failed and he ended up having to replace it. One month to replace a torque converter. Now, the time frame initially bothering me the most (and being vocal about it to him), he finally completes his job of replacing a torque converter. And what I mean by completing, is that he just so happened to have a torque converter laying around in his shop that would fit mine. Whether this is a low stall billet converter that I paid high dollar for or not, Only the next shop will know. Today, I went to pick up my truck and found something that pissed me off beyond comprehension. Not two days before my torque converter issues I gave my truck a bath. Not that it even needed it, it was nice out and I just wanted to get it clean. When I inquired Phil about the mud all over the side of my truck his response was "My guys weren't abusing your truck, but I'll give you 10 dollars for a car wash." This prompted me to do an even further inspection of my truck and noticed even more during the month that he had it. Almost half a tank (16+/- gallons had been burnt), Over 90 miles had been put on the truck, AND the OLD transmission fluid from a year ago, was recycled and put back into the truck. Now don't get me wrong, the evidence I've gathered is Phil really doesn't do the test driving or work on the truck, it's his lackeys. And the lackeys he has working on the vehicles his customers brings him are nothing but disrespectful, ignorant fools that have no sense of professionalism for other people's property. When they see a fancy toy they will never be able to afford, they want to go out and have fun in it. However, Phil defends his "employees" and takes no responsibility for what they do and how they do it. My warning to anyone reading this. Do Not Take Your Vehicle To Phil's Transmission.

Rick squeezed me in on Monday morning and I had the car back the next day. He saved me big bucks by rebuilding the cable after he found out his supplier sent the wrong part. I'd caution all customers against using this AAMCO location. They broke parts of my vehicle and…read morewere dishonest multiple times, including the initial diagnosis. My vehicle was misdiagnosed and received an unnecessary transmission repair. During that repair, parts that were removed for the repair were broken and my vehicle is now inoperable. Before writing this review, I gave AAMCO 30 days' written notice to provide customer service and correct their mistakes, but received no response. Also before writing this review, I submitted a claim to the Better Business Bureau and awaited AAMCO's response, which was essentially to say that older vehicles (1997 in this case) break when you work on them. Before reviewing, I also filed a claim with the Oregon Department of Justice, which received no reply. I had hoped this to all be resolved amicably, but unfortunately, have received no customer support from AAMCO. The issue I brought my vehicle in for was that it was jumping in and out of overdrive after 30-40 miles at highway speed. The service manager, Rick, "road tested" the vehicle "around town" and told me it was road worthy and the fluid looked clean and good. It started doing it again after about 30-40 miles at highway speed and I brought the vehicle back. The service manager decided it needed an entirely new transmission at a cost of $3,624 based on the fact that the fluid looked "brown" and smelled "bad"-- a diagnosis at odds with the previous one. It is a fact that fluid looks and smells bad when a transmission needs a routine service. After them having the vehicle for two weeks where it was worked on by a technician named Brandon, I picked it up and tried taking it for a test drive and the exact same problem happened as if nothing had been fixed-- after 30-40 miles at highway speed it started jumping in and out of overdrive. I brought the vehicle back yet again and this time they told me that they had tested the vehicle at highway speeds under my complaint conditions by driving it to Depoe Bay and back at which point they confirmed my complaint and decided that the problem was actually a shift sensor external to the transmission which they offered to fix for free-- this was the true problem and the transmission rebuild was seemingly unnecessary. When I picked up my truck, this time the shift lever was completely loose and it had trouble shifting gears and the plastic end of the lever with the overdrive button was 90 percent broken off. When I complained, the service manager came out to look and watched the end of the shift lever fall easily off. He offered to fix it for free. When I picked the vehicle up again, there was a new shift lever completely, but the entire assembly is so wobbly and tweaked now that it jumps out of gear and you have to drive with your hand on the lever making the vehicle unsafe and unusable because all driving must be done one-handed. I also was charged a $380 4WD fee and in the process of whatever that fee entails something happened and now it won't go into four-wheel drive at all. I basically went in with a 4WD pickup with an overdrive problem and came out with a very expensive 2WD pickup that is undrivable-- overdrive does work now, however. The service manager saved the parts his technician broke and sent pictures of them to the BBB, although to what end, I'm not sure. Then he tried to say I broke the shift arm by lightly touching it while he watched it fall off with his own eyes. The service manager signed off saying they would honor ONLY the transmission warranty, despite the fact that they replaced the shift sensor, shift arm and disabled the 4WD system somehow. If you aren't capable of working on older vehicles without breaking them, why take on the job?
