We settled on a Huevo de Jamon & Queso (Egg with ham and cheese), which came out flaky, and delicious, toasted and pressed flat, plus a Bavarian Cream horn pastry because I like sweet stuff, then I grabbed a tray of pastries because people at the office like sweet stuff too. This place is such a hidden gem. Be prepared to enter the back area of a shopping center to find it. The owner offered us some fresh bread baked that morning since it was our first time there. The bread was fresh, airy, and slighty sweet. A great rendition of a sweet italian loaf. The bacalaito guisado was fantastic. It had yuca, potato (yellow, white, and sweet), squash, avocado on top, as well as plaintain and of course the salted cod itself. It was well seasoned and stuck to your ribs. The empanada de pulpo had perfectly tender octopus and a superior crispy crunchy empanda shell that was the culmination of expertly crafted dough and a fry to perfection. I could not highly recommend this place more. The feel is very homey and they make you feel like one of the fam. It is only open untol 5 as it is a lunch, breakfast, or early dinner kind of place so plan accordingly. However, male sure to include it in your plans and pick up some pastries for the next day. First time here while I was on a business trip in the West Boynton area. I've seen their reviews here on Yelp, so it was just a matter of time until I paid them a visit. This is definitely your Puerto Rican style cafeteria / restaurant concept. It is a small restaurant, so you have to be patient, as they are popular and it can get busy! I had the special of the day, which was "Viandas con Bacalao", which translated to "Boiled Root Vegetables and Cod Stew". I also ordered the octopus empanadas, shrimp empanadas and some bacalaitos. My order was to go, so I was not able to devour the food while I was there. Got to the hotel, unpacked everything and went into attack mode. Everything, and I mean everything was good. The viandas plate reminded me of the island and the empanadas were super tasty and stuffed with seafood. I spoke with the owner for a bit and he said that the business has been open for 10 years....now I know why. You put out a great product, and the people will come. Located in a busy plaza so parking spaces were limited. We walked in a small dining area with nice Puertorican decor & immediately was greeted by a very friendly guy at the counter. He asked us have we been there before & we said no found them on Yelp. He told us the Specials of the day but we ordered a variety of Empanadas. We sat inside but seating was limited it was small & busy. The tables were set up a little weird & they were put together for larger groups so another couple sat at our table with us. As good as it gets! Every time I go on vacation, regardless of the state I always look for my hometown food, Puerto Rico. This time while in Boynton Beach/West Palm Beach area visiting relatives I always look for good food specially for breakfast and dinner and stay away from chain restaurants. For my surprise looking for a breakfast place my husband found PR Bakery by Diana (Yelp is the best), I said it is a must try. Decided to go on Monday and for my surprise it was close. Went the next day for a late breakfast before hitting the road and had beef pastelillos (empanadas), coffee and toast with butter. Everything is made in there, fresh, so it is take time and it is worth the wait. The guy behind the counter, sorry forgot your name, started a conversation with us, and the first question was if it was the first time there as we answered yes. For our surprised we received 1/2 lb of pan sobao. I was the happier girl in town. Like he knew I love pan (bread). The next day before our flight back home we stopped by for late lunch early dinner and had cuajito with guineitos and white rice (pig ears with green plantains) and my husband had the cube steak with onions white rice and beans and a side of sweet plantains. We had to share because it was GOOD. We also had the soursop (guanabana) juice and mavi (mavi tree bark) juice. You can't find mavi everywhere. The rice was so good, everything was good, good prices. Prices are very reasonable as the portions you eat. It has homemade desserts (quesitos, brandy soaked cakes, amaretto soaked cakes, guava pastries, tornillos (bavarian cream pastries) among others. Flan of coconut, regular, nutella and guess what, they have limbers, yes, limbers (frozen fruit juice or milk), good for hot days. Bread is also available for purchase and made on-site. I almost forgot to add, by the time I was there waiting for my food to be served, the place was non-stop people getting in and out ordering food or dessert. Note: Place does not open Sunday-Monday. I was warmly greeted by the staff. Really reminded me of the so many things that make the PRican culture so special. The restaurant itself had some cute areas with original PRican touches. But it felt a bit disorganized. Now the place and restrooms were very clean. The bake goods in the display didn't look that appetizing but after driving 40 minutes I was determined to get a quesito. The quesito was Ok. It was kind of skinny and flaky. Not like your typical quesito that is full of cream, and sweet. I also ordered the alcapurria and I was also disappointed. It barely had any flavor. Same with the pastelillo de pollo. I guess they need some adobo! I hadn't had PRican food in over a year and left feeling that my my cravings were not satisfied.
