We are new to the area, we found this place when searching for local restaurants. It's what I…read morewould deem a hole in the wall, (only because it is not a large venue) but it has excellent service and great food. We started with some cocktails and the cheese curds, for Andres we had the Smashburger and an order of duck tacos. We do come toting along with a six-year-old so with a lack of a kids menu or a simpler eats, we went with the cheese flatbread (note to anybody reading it comes without sauce. It is literally cheese on a flatbread). We can't fall places for not being kid friendly, but it would've been awesome to have even just a grilled cheese option, but that's our problem for another day. Sadly, it will limit when we can plan our future visit visits. The service was great, friendly and attentive, in the ambience, cozy and warm. I travel quite a bit and my husband did deem this a place that "I could come and sit at the bar when I'm by myself " So personally, the only thing I would say is they could use a few more smaller plates that could thicken as child, friendly entrées... or just add a tad bit more options into the mix.

I'd rate Townhall four and a half stars…read more Great gastropub. Solid selection of whiskeys and beers. Beers focus on local craft options. I had a few Helles lagers from Moat Mountain. Very approachable menu with a few sections but a handful of options in each section. From the starters section, we shared the duck wings and the fried cheese curds. Surprisingly, a lot of duck featured on the menu. Not something I typically see at a casual taphouse. Duck wings were great. Ultra crispy and card with mandarin wedges for a perfect compliment. The fried cheese curds came out piping hot. Some of them seemed to pop and the cheese oozed out leaving some hollow curds. The ones that maintained their integrity and contained the cheese were superb. We shared the Korean fried chicken sandwich as our main. Super crispy and vinegar forward. Came with spiraled potato wedges which was an ideal accompaniment for a few beers. Service was quick and accommodating. Food came out quickly too. A couple TVs to catch an event. Great spot!

Another few years, another handful of visits, and pretty much the same deal as before, with pretty…read moremuch the same strengths and weaknesses. -- Outstanding wings. The sauces are sharp, the skins are just crisp enough, the marinade runs deep, and the interiors are juicy. The whole package with the ranch or blue cheese works very well. -- Good burger. They're loyal members of the smash brigade, and while I prefer a thicker burger, their double smash is very good. The meat is seasoned, it has a nice texture, the bun is soft and pliable, and the condiments add flavor galore. The bacon aioli is rich, creamy, and provides a salty dimension. My one criticism (aside from whether they're truly textbook smashburgers or in name only) is that the beef sometimes gets lost in the generously applied condiments and pillowy bun. But I'll say it again: good burger. -- Superb onion rings. This is a new one, and you can get them as a $5 side or as a $2.00 upgrade from fries with your burger. Thin, crisp, well browned and a little bit greasy. Oh, and a generous allotment with your burger. -- Good beer selection. They don't have all the latest sexy IPAs, but they do have a bunch, plus good deals on some of the more traditional bottles. -- High prices. Everything's still more expensive than it really ought to be, even by today's restaurant pricing standards, but lately maybe less so, only because others have caught up to them, but it is noticeable. -- Shaky service. It's not so much that the servers are slow, error-prone or rude (although I had one very rude moment), but more a matter of being consistently undermanned. Typically one person handles both bar and tables during weekday lunches, and two plus a bartender at night. Lots of waiting and empty glasses.

You definitely have to try those. My wife and mother got the grown up grilled cheese and I got the spicy smash burger with truffle fries. Everything was great but because we ate the egg rolls too start and because they bring you popcorn as soon as you sit down, we couldn't finish our meals, but we took them home because the food was great. The only reason it's 4 stars from me and not 5 is because every restaurant should bring you water as soon as you sit. The popcorn is nice, but water is a must. Plenty of parking and nice environment and I saw they have an open mic Monday night. If we lived near by I might have gone and check it out. What I know is if we are ever on the area, we will be going back.

Elizabeth's Farmhouse -- Putnam, Connecticut…read more By far one of the best meals I've ever had, and quite possibly the best burger of my life! Coming from Southern California with a culinary background, I'll admit my expectations can sometimes be modest when dining outside well-known food scenes. Elizabeth's Farmhouse didn't just exceed them--it blew them away. My wife and I arrived in Putnam looking for a quick bite and found this charming, approximately 50-seat restaurant with no wait. I ordered an Oktoberfest from a local brewery, while my wife chose an Old Fashioned. She ordered the Farmhouse Meatloaf Wrap, I chose the burger, and we shared the German Onion Soup. The German Onion Soup was outstanding. The onions were caramelized to a beautiful deep amber, with rich umami, subtle garlic and shallot, and a wonderfully developed beef broth. The crostini, topped with perfectly melted Gruyère, brought everything together. Every component was thoughtfully prepared and bursting with flavor. Then came the burger--and this was no ordinary burger. Cooked to a flawless medium-rare, it featured thick-cut applewood-smoked bacon, crispy red onions, aged sharp white cheddar, ancho chili barbecue sauce, and a perfectly seasoned Niman Ranch all-beef patty on a soft brioche bun. Every bite delivered an incredible balance of smoky, savory, sweet, and spicy flavors. Nothing overpowered anything else. Without question, this was one of the best burgers I've ever had. My wife's Farmhouse Meatloaf Wrap was equally impressive, featuring tender meatloaf, creamy mashed potatoes, aged white cheddar, and house-made chipotle mayonnaise. Rich, hearty comfort food elevated through thoughtful preparation and excellent execution. Even the fresh-cut fries deserve recognition. Cooked beautifully and served with house-made ketchup that reminded me of an Italian nonna's homemade marinara. When even the simplest condiment receives that much attention, you know you're dining somewhere special. By the end of our meal, both plates were completely clean. As someone with a culinary background, I appreciate the difference between food that is simply prepared and food crafted with genuine passion. Elizabeth's Farmhouse is a shining example of the latter. To the chef and everyone behind the scenes: your passion for food does not go unnoticed. You've created something truly special in Putnam, Connecticut. I rarely write restaurant reviews, but this experience absolutely deserved one. Five stars, without hesitation. I'll be back hungry for more!

The service is sometimes great; sometimes...so-so. I've gotten different kinds and difficult to make out what the standard is for service. Overall-- good-ish. I made a reservation and was on time but my table was given to another customer who did not rsvp and was asked to wait for 20+mins. Happened twice. The interior is cozy and tight; but very cute and nice. Like its name; it's like a farmhouse decor. The outside architecture is all black and it may look closed but it is the restaurant :) ! A good restaurant to try out !!!
