My son, daughter and husband have all attended Power Kenpo in Carrollton Texas for several years now and we continue to enjoy the family atmosphere, amazing people and the bonds of friendship that can be found at this great place! Jim, the owner is almost always on site and therefore the customer service is amazing!! All of the instructors are invested in the development of the kids and they are such caring people! Power Kenpo also offers COBRA self defense for those that want personal self defense but not really interested in a "karate" class. I am having my teenage daughter attend the COBRA self defense seminar offered on specified Saturdays so that she is able to defend herself if and when the need arises. They even offer a girls only COBRA class which is nice for some girls that are a little shy about self defense. Although times have changed and I still am cautious about where my children are, I feel comfortable with the knowledge that Power Kenpo has provided and that my children will know what to do to protect themselves. We LOVE PowerKenpo! My kids have been participating in PowerKenpo for over a year. Their progression in this style of martial arts has been fun to watch. I expected them to learn how punch, kick, block, break a few boards, and to get a decent workout all while having some fun. All of that has happened. What I didn't expect was how the PowerKenpo program would improve their confidence, focus, and drive. The instructors are all very proficient in teaching Kenpo, but they also talk to the students about leadership, time management, and other critical skills. In fact, I was so impressed by the program, I took the plunge myself and enrolled in PowerKenpo as an adult. Everything I said about the kids' program is true for the adults as well, but we also get to use weapons (safely) from time to time, which is awesome. Not having done anything athletic for a while, I was a bit concerned if I could keep up. Just know that you can go at your own pace. Everyone, from instructors to other students, is genuinely encouraging and helpful. If you are looking for a place for your child or yourself to train in Kenpo and gain some valuable life skills along the way, I can't recommend PowerKenpo highly enough. read more

WE LOVE THIS PLACE! Power Kenpo is the highlight of the week for my little ones. It's more than just a karate studio; it's a family. The instructors care for my kids as if they were their own and my kids adore them. The owner, James, always finds ways to teach the students how to be better people and has a pretty neat leadership curriculum set out for the (slightly) older students who wish to learn to be instructors or even just learn to be leaders. I like watching them develop; and there isn't a single one that my children don't love. Another thing I really like is that if you don't understand why something is taught a certain way or if you're not sure if your own kids are doing what they should, the instructors are always available, unless they are actively teaching a class, to discuss your questions with you. I try not to step on their time; but, every time I've had a question, they were able to answer it with thoughtfulness, care for my children, and sound teaching principles. I don't have enough words to describe this martial arts school! We have been a part of Power Kenpo for the past 15 years. With the help of the fantastic instructors (and other students), in these 15 years, one of my kids earned one junior black belt and 2 adult black belts. (Every time he returns back from college, he is back to put more work in.) The other child is working on earning her first-degree black belt. The instructors are absolutely amazing! They are always looking to improve their way of teaching! They are constantly updating their curriculum! They are asking the students and the parents for feedback! One of the highlights of their curriculum is the leadership program. After the kids complete the program and when they are eligible to work, the school offers them jobs! On top of the regular classes, they offer camps, organize birthday parties, "parent night out" parties, and the list goes on and on. PowerKenpo is an amazing, family friendly place that not only teaches karate well; but cares about who their students are becoming. They focus on character and learning leadership while giving them top-notch training in karate. My children have gone there for eight years now and have gone from squirrely kids (I'll admit it!) to thoughtful teenagers who lead by example. They not only demand the best from themselves; but they help the younger students develop their own sense of responsibility and work ethic. Both kids have earned their junior black belts and either have their adult black belt or are very close. I can't recommend this studio highly enough! We've been regulars here (three or four nights per week) for years and all we've ever seen is leaders that care deeply about their students, character building leadership training, and a family atmosphere. A very nice place! All the instructors are wonderful to work with. They all keep a very professional yet personal relationship with the students, helping them set goals and achieve them with confidence! Power Kenpo is a family-friendly and safe environment for children to learn about self-discipline, goal-setting, and their personal weaknesses and strength. My oldest started when he was 4 & 1/2. Now he is 10 & 1/2 and on the way to earn his junior black belt. My five-year-old started about a year ago in the Little Dragon class, and in a month, he'll be earning his green belt and moves on to the Junior class. Our 2 & 1/2-year-old girl probably will start once she's 4 or 5. We are very happy with Power Kenpo. read more

I cannot rave enough about Power Kenpo. Our family LOVES going to class and they have such amazing instructors with just the right balance of discipline and silliness for the kids. I love and appreciate seeing all the women instructors they have, which has been such a great influence for my daughter. They have a wide range of classes and times that fit our busy schedule and we even get to do karate in the park every Saturday! And my daughter got to cut her birthday cake with a sword for her karate birthday party. Best party she's ever had! They took care of everything!!! Plates, candles, food, everything!! My kids attended a week long class last year here and loved it. The teachers seem to be really nice and it teaches the kids discipline and self-confidence which I love. I like that they offer classes Outdoors as well. I have worked closely with james, the owner, as a member of the PTA and special events committee at my school to coordinate them as a sponsor for our school carnival the last two years. They came and let the kids do kicks and passed out candy and have donated raffle prizes and supported the school. They are a great Community partner. I would recommend power Kenpo read more

We absolutely love this place. My daughter was extremely shy and would rarely speak to adults. I talked to the Sifu about this and he assured me she would gain confidence. Sure enough she is now a purple belt and on several occasions she has led the entire class with glowing self confidence. I will always be grateful to all the teachers and staff for helping my daughter. My 5.5 YO son has been taking lessons here for the last 6 months and LOVES it! The instructors have been so amazing with him - providing simple instructions, constructive criticism, boosting his confidence, but also providing a good amount of discipline.
