I have been working out at Powerhouse Troy since end of April. The staff is super friendly and helpful, not to mention the gym is super clean. Arrived at 830p to do a guest workout visiting town. Checked the site and social. I see the hours note on Sunday is member access only. Otherwise 24/7 and there are staff hours. After spending $20 for the uber i arrive and the staff tells me its members only now no guests. I say "i checked the site it doesn't say that, says it about Sunday but no other day." Staff "Ya i know it's super confusing". So admitted the information posted was wrong. "No way u can make an exception?" "No". So annoyed. Never had that in all the years of visiting gym. Especially rude. And in Troy on a Tuesday night how many visitors are coming in to make this an issue? Unbelievable. So cost me a $40 uber ride back and forth for nothing. read more

They charge you for single day 20$. I went there to see if its worth to subscribe there. First of all i get not best experience with owner after i finished my work i considered to see about plans and everything and the employee form there told me that they have another bigger location in Madison heights that i can also can check it out. So I went there to see if I'm gonna be training mainly in troy or Madison. I came there and ask if I can check it out this location and I showed how that employee told me to show my check for 20$ and he told me that I CANT check it out and I need to buy Subscription FOR THIS LOCATION EXACTLY with very rude tone IDK who the fuck made this MF greedy he or his mf brother but I've never will comeback to troy and madison location . This place is a scam I came here for a month pass as I'm in town for work. They take my card than hand me a list of 30 things I can't do. This is not a real gym in the slightest it is sad to see. I have traveled to 100's of gyms in my time and this is by far the worst. Can't do deadlifts unless they are on a 4inch platform. I left after 20 mins and got a refund for the month but they still charged me 20$ for a day pass. Disgusting business practices read more

I used to train here with my dad whenever I would come home on leave from my duty station in the US Army. At that time, we lived a mile up the road on Livernois and my father preferred working out when the gym opened up at 5am. He got to know the manager and was proud to introduce me to him and the entire staff. The staff, the facilities and the equipment was always great. Recently, I returned for a vacation and stayed at a nearby hotel. I bought a week long pass to this gym and as soon as I walked in, it was as if I was whisked back in time for a while. As a LONG time (10+years) customer of Powerhouse this is the best gym for only $29.99 per month. Other gyms try to compete but owners George and his brother Frank offer a solid deal that is hard to pass up. With your membership you get access to this location or the one in Madison Heights @ 1461 W 14 Mile Rd. I workout at that location more often because it is closer to my house. Both gyms have surrounding mirrors that help you master your workout. The gyms are CLEAN and the equipment is well kept. The Madison Heights location has a dry sauna in the lockerooms which is wonderful to use during the winter. The Troy location is missing out with this feature! The gyms sell men's and women's workout apparel. They also sell supplements, and have a cool bar where they can make a variety of protein or non-protein shakes. Parking is never an issue, there is tons of spots at both gyms. Customer service is great! You are greeted upon your arrival and wished a good a day when you leave. I've worked out at Golds, Planet Fitness and other gyms where you are just a warm body floating in and out of their gym. For some people it is not important but for me I like feeling welcomed where I invest my money, time and sweat. The only con I have is the typical male to female ratio is 90/10 or 70/30 (at best) which can be annoying. read more

This gym was great. I am a member of Powerhouse in Pittsburgh and thought it was a nationwide membership but evidently it is not. The owner still let me workout for free though. The gym was very clean and had an excellent assortment of free weights and machines. Unoriginal macho energy? Certainly, however, out of the handful of gyms where I have had memberships, this one is my favorite. First of all, the Troy Powerhouse is a very clean gym. Every 12 feet or so you can find a couple bottles of sanitizer and a clean rag to wipe off the equipment before and after use. I feel that this is a must in any gym. Lots of people go to the gym even when they're sick or before they realize they're sick so, I think it's great that Powerhouse provides a way for me to protect myself while I workout amongst other germy humans. Aside from aliments like colds and flues, staff infections can rum rampant in any environment where people are sharing equipment. Most other gyms seem to have a single station where they keep their sanitizer stuff. It's no big deal to just walk across the room and get what you need, right? Well, we all know how lazy we get when we're trying to get through a workout. A trip to the other side of the gym to get some sissy sanitizer just isn't the cards for some of us tough guys! I appreciate that Powerhouse makes it a little more convenient and takes my insecurities about obsessively sanitizing into consideration. The cardio equipment and resistance machines are always in good working order and CLEAN! The staff and most of the members are considerate and rack their weight when they're done lifting. It isn't long before the staff gets around to picking up the place if someone fails to clean up after themselves. This is a good gym if you are interested in simply just working out whether it be cardio, free weights or resistance training. This gym also has a selection of kettle-bells which is a nice consideration for the more advanced if not slightly snotty fitness enthusiasts. Powerhouse Troy has my recommendation. I moved away and I really miss working out here. A lot of the people who workout here are the muscle-headed, mouth-breathing, grunting for attention types but it never bothered me too much as long as I stayed focused on my own workout. Piping in music through earphones helped block that out as well. read more

The gym is extremely clean and there are a lot of machine options to choose from. I personal train with junior who is extremely knowledgeable and truly loves what he does. Juniors style of training really targets your goals and he really focuses on your body and what is right for you. He even takes time to customize a meal plan that fits to your liking. I have been working out at Powerhouse since June of this year. Gym is super clean , friendly staff and owners and is 24/7.

Powerhouse is the new planet fitness. There are plenty of better gyms in the area. DO NOT WAIST YOUR MONEY. It may seem like a good deal-as the monthly payment is low but they charge you about $50 in the summer for "ungraded" that I have never seen. The 24 access is the only good thing about this gym and recently there have been more gyms with this service come about in the area. If you strictly want cardio-this is an okay spot. But no heavy lifting goes on here. You can't deadlift which is one of the most beneficial exercises for muscle growth. Don't let the name Powerhouse fool you like it did me. Lastly, I posted an honest review on Facebook and an employee called me a liar. I didn't previously have a problem with their customer service but that is completely unprofessional. read more

Would give 5 stars but there's a specific machine they lack for doing cable flies / cable crossovers. One cable machine which is used for a variety of movements is simply too wide for the comfort of my shoulders. And I have long arms and broad shoulders mind you. So can't do flies/cable cross overs. They have another cable machine which is a large unit for all kinds of exercises including back exercises (seated rows), that too is too wide. I can normally do 130lbs in each hand on cable flies for 8 reps, but when I need to stop my set there's no comfortable or safe way to release tension and let go of the handles/cables. This is my biggest and really only negative as I need to be able to do cable flies both for warming up the shoulders and preexhausting my pecs / pumping them with blood to ready them for presses. Other than that everything is great. Don't do chest on Mondays at least after 3pm, you will hate your session or force to drive over to Madison Heights in hopes there's a bench readily available. read more

These guys are professional scam artists. They act nice and friendly before you sign up but it's all about the money, if you don't sign up their attitude changes immediately. They lie to the members. George and Frank and two of the worst humans I have ever met. Frank tried to guilt one of the workers into staying when she found a new job that paid her DOUBLE what was making at this dump. They started randomly charging all members a "maintenance fee" twice a year just to make more money. They also illegally charge you an extra month when you cancel. Avoid these people at all costs. read more

Garbage center. The owners will eye you down as soon as you walk in and follow you around as if you weren't an active member putting money into their pockets. Rude. Arrogant. Condescending. If you attempt to cancel, they will bombard you with fees and attempt to disparage you. The young lady working upfront, (who is clearly a relative of the owner) acting as a callow assistant provided no explanation as to why I was being charged a particular fee for leaving. Her answer? Frank is always welcoming to me when I come in. He even remembered my grandpa who use to workout there but passed away which had been years ago and asked how my family was doing. The gym is always kept clean. Frank is on top of people not slamming weights and is on top of people being respectful to other members. I have tried LA and planet fitness but nothing compared to powerhouse. read more
