I joined lifetime about 8 years ago. I was so scared to leave my babe in the child care. [ I even cried the 1st few times- I was a 1st time mom that never left her babybean] Taylor Wade was so kind and understanding.. she calmed my nerves and assured me she will personally make sure my littles were safe! She did just that!! She is amazing with my kids and ALL the kids. Since then, I have gone to other LTF's kids academy, and I can say TROY is one of the best. The staff goes above and beyond... it's very organized, unlike some of the other club. TROYS ACADEMY is our top favorite! My kids throw a fit when we go to other clubs. One thing that stands out the most is the way they handle the kids' misbehaving at the busiest times (and obviously not busy times). Very calm yet firm and still loving. Nothing makes me smile more when I see the staff deal with a hurt child. Again, showing so much love and care. Doug, Rena ,Taylor Facca, Hana, Bianca and Katherine are all amazing! LTF TROY is so lucky to have a wonderful staff. One thing is I wish the hours were longer on weekends! I wanted to rave about the summer camp. Again, leaving my kids all day freaked me out. They did a great job and made my work day run so smoothly, knowing my kids were well cared for. The front desk is always friendly. Jordan is so personable. Great asset to lifetime! The locker room is well maintained! Unfortunately, there are SOO many pig members, but I think the staff does a good job keeping up! Sue [ I think that's her name] is a hard worker. Towel desk employees are always smiling and welcoming! Same as cafe.. Upstairs is always clean and maintained. I am a signature memeber, and I really enjoy the classes. Gerald, Marcus, Hilary, Kelly and Erin are great teachers!! I never go to regular classes anymore. Although, I miss Jessie!! He was a great GM. It's very sad to see he is gone! I believe promoting Doug as the new GM was a great move!! He is always present around the club. I feel that was a great move! read more

I'm honestly pretty upset with how Lifetime as a brand has changed. Customer service? Gone. The feeling of inclusivity? Gone. It's like they no longer care about their members. I get that they're saving some money by not being open 24/7, but it's still a huge letdown. We've tried the Canton location multiple times, but there's always something broken or out of order. So we went to the Troy location, only to find that our family membership doesn't work here--only Novi and Canton. After upgrading, my son, who loves basketball, was disappointed to see that half the courts are now taken over by pickleball. Now they're even getting rid of basketball courts altogether. When I asked, I was told that "basketball doesn't make us money." Isn't that why we're paying $275 a month for a family membership? Today, after upgrading, we got kicked off the basketball court within an hour because of some family event. Apparently, they have arts and crafts tables in the gym on Saturdays. We were told we could come back after 8pm, but why did we drive 55 minutes from Ann Arbor for that? There's other space they could've used, but I'm guessing that's being rented out for more money, while the members are pushed aside for things like pickleball. Honestly, the Las Vegas locations are great, but the Michigan ones are a mess. I've been harassed since day one at Canton. It's frustrating because, just like 24-Hour Fitness, Lifetime is drifting away from what made it great--caring about the members. Eventually, I think they'll learn, especially when they start closing down locations, just like 24-Hour did. I just hope they realize that the people--the members--are what keeps their revenue flowing. Plus spend some money on this club first, everything is old and falling apart..... Maybe one day, pickleball will fade out like racquetball did. But until then, here's an idea: Troy could convert those racquetball courts into basketball courts. I've been a member at Life Time Fitness Troy since 2002, and I've never been this disappointed. They are completely getting rid of the basketball courts and replacing them with pickleball. First they took one court away, and now they're taking BOTH courts starting April 19. Basketball has always been one of the main reasons people come here, and now it feels like that doesn't matter at all. Instead, pickleball is taking over the entire space with prime-time hours--6-9:30 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 6-9 PM on other days--basically making it impossible for anyone to play basketball after work. On top of that, the courts were never even taken care of properly. The basketball floors are rarely cleaned, and the wood clearly needs to be polished. For a gym charging around $150 a month, you would expect much better maintenance, but it feels like they never cared about the basketball side at all. Another issue is the hours. The basketball courts close at 11 PM Monday through Thursday, and the entire club closes at 11 PM on Fridays--which is crazy considering most locations stay open later. This is the only club I know closing that early on a Friday. After over 20 years of being a loyal member, it feels like long-time members are being pushed aside. The gym might look nice, but taking away something this important--and not even maintaining it properly while it was there--completely ruins the experience. read more

Horribly condescending lifeguard that kicked me out of the lap pool in the middle of a workout for an unscheduled swim lesson for 4 children was my last straw. Continuing unscheduled events in the lap pool that never show up on the app. Have complained for years. Finally had enough and escalated my frustration to regional management who then pushed me back to the local General Manager, Doug, who has ignored my complaints for years. I finally cancelled my membership and joined Oakland University Rec Center. Similar amenities with the exception of a spectacular swim facility - at about 40% of what my grandfathered LT Membership cost. It's a humongous facility that offers a wide range of equipment, and training to fit most needs. It's a 2 story building with many amenities that includes towel service. -Indoor basketball courts -Indoor & Outdoor pools -Outdoor children playground -Cafe -Steam room, spa, sauna My issues are: 1) Their pricing is all over the place, and doesn't make sense when you compare to other members dues & other Lifetime facilities. 2) Their guest pass policy is completely ridiculous. 3) Most equipment is outdated. 4) Finding free-weights & weighted bars can be a hassle in a huge facility. They recently cut the space for the cardio equipment to make more space for other body strengthening equipment. Well half of the space remains open and wasted. So obviously that's not why they eliminated half of the cardio equipment. I addition they didn't distribute the remaining cardio equipment properly. Some machines are under utilized and others over utilized. As an example they cut the OpenStride machines from 6 to 2 and now they are heavily used and we have to wait to use them almost every time while most other elliptical machines are unused. They simply didn't use any usage data to determine what to cut. Total screwup and they won't fix the problem by bringing back more OpenStride machines. Just mind boggling how they conduct business and can't maintain a balanced distribution of equipment. Complete screwup. read more

So many vast improvements needed here at Troy lifetime. For starters, educate the employees on how to be human and when interacting with other humans how to be polite. When voicing my concerns to management it reassured me this attitude is stemming from upper management and it's not going to change. Secondly, the amount of dust in certain areas of the gym is absolutely disgusting. High traffic areas that shouldn't accumulate dust yet they do. This is the gym I frequented the most for swimming during the colder seasons. It's a good size gym and pretty reasonably priced for what you get. They had a decent women's locker area, showers too. Our weekends consisted of an hour swimming laps in the pool and then some time in the jacuzzi and sauna, all co-ed. Then some snacks and beverages at the snack area. read more

Now all they care is about money they went from 24 hr to closing at midnight and kick you out of the pool area and steam room by 1145 so the could leave by 12. I've been to multiple lifetimes now and this one has the same amenities. My problem is how gross this place becomes throughout the day. If you come in the evening expect there to be no wipes for the machines, overflowing towel bins, and dirty toilets in the locker rooms (and there is a lack of other bathrooms). I wasn't surprised at all when I walked through the facility and found it to be as clean and well kept as the facility in Canton. The crowd is more of a business type which I prefer and reminds me of the Canton crowd. Classy Staff are friendly and helpful. I have been a faithful Planet Fitness member for quite a while now, but I am finding it harder and harder to find time to go due to my hectic schedule. A friend is a member at Lifetime and suggested we try it out. We got the membership and I will say that it is expensive...quite expensive...but the experience is worthwhile. The child care is of excellent quality. The space looks and smells clean and the workers follow child safety protocols about signing kids in and out perfectly. The locker rooms are very clean and well appointed and appear to be humidity controlled to avoid that dank locker room feeling. The pool area is currently closed for maintenance, but when it is open, it has a nice mix of lap areas and kids recreation areas. The heat blasting out from the vents is overwhelming though. It is nearly impossible to sit in a lounge chair by the pool due to the overzealous application of the HVAC system. The machines are of good quality and there is never a shortage of them. I only wish that the treadmills had on-screen tvs that you could plug your earphones into. Even some of the newer Planet Fitness clubs have this technology. I was surprised not to see it here. Overall, this is an upscale club with something for everyone in the family. It is cost prohibitive, but if you are getting a family membership, it could potentially be worthwhile. read more

Theft is a big issue here in the women's locker room. So be really careful! Also, what's even worse the employees don't seem to care either. I think for the men it's not as bad because they have codes for their lockers. Anyway let me tell you my story so you can judge for yourself. I was showering with my towel and key right outside the curtain on the hook. I see a woman pick up my key and walk into the steam room. I quickly walked to a manger told her my story and she had someone open my locker. The employee said we would wait for someone to open it but when the person came she was no where to be found! I went outside to the towel desk and he said there was pretty much nothing he could do because she would just deny it all... Pretty sure they could have banned her membership because she made people uncomfortable etc. I gave them a perfect opportunity to catch this thief and they did nothing... disappointed is an understatement. read more

The Troy location of Lifetime had become intolerably filthy with kids leaving dirty towels all over the workout area and locker room. Rude members, those being mostly younger, hogging multiple machines and wondering why I can't wait for them to finish before using one of them. Also, the summer camp overruns the club with out of control youngsters. I grew tired of this and thus have left this club for Bloomfield Lifetime. If you're looking for a clean gym, variety of classes (free and not free), working machines, swimming pool (with steam and sauna room), basketball court, rocking climbing and good staff this is the gym for you. A little over price but using all of their amenities is worth their price VS other gyms. Can be over packed from 4PM-8PM but the gym is open 24/7 which is nice. read more

This place continues to get worse. It seems something is always broken....hot tub, steam room, machines, anything. Why the bleep should I pay 70 bucks a month if most of the shit isn't accessible???? I want a refund. Ive been to the plymouth location and that gym is awesome!!!! The place was great but the summer camp was horrible. The councilors were rude, and even racist! They made us run a for 15 min back and forth sprinting. They actually called it suicide! Some kid actually believed them and tried to commit suicide!!! Only a few counselors were nice. With my fluctuating schedule, I love that this place is open 24 hours. There's a wide range of equipment that is pretty much always available, so you can be sure you're going to get the job done. There're also great b-ball courts, raquetball courts, a fantastic climbing wall, and a few indoor pools that're great for both training, or family fun. My experience is admittedly limited, I'm no gym whore, but I've never seen another gym with a waterslide. The place even has a salon for the ladies, and is also staffed by burly masseuses who do a generally good job of slugging the knots out of your muscles, though I do have to say that one time I spent a few days feeling worse than before I'd gone in, and I don't think that's supposed to happen. A membership with Lifetime even gets you discounts with other businesses, including hotels and car rental, depending on where you live. If you play your cards right, what you save can pay for a fair chunk of your yearly membership. This particular location is also pretty great about other benefits and member retention drives, including free personal trainer sessions from time to time - it's great to know they run their business more like a community. I like that. Speaking of, the trainers are smart and well-educated, and very good at what they do. They play rough, and will beat you up, but it will be good for you and you'll want more when you're done. My only real gripes with the place are minor, but they're enough for me to dock a star. There's no running track - something the nearby Bally's sports, and personally I prefer that to a treadmill. But the big thing is the people - not the staff, they're fine, I mean the other members. People don't wipe down their equipment, dudes do the Captain Morgan in the locker room without so much as a loincloth and just hang out -maybe it's a similar experience at other gyms and I'm just not aware, but I think people make themselves a little TOO much at home here and I find myself nonplussed. So, I will nonplus one star from my rating. Other than that, it's a great place to work out. If you're in the area, be sure to stop in. read more

I've been spoiled by Lifetime Fitness. I used to work out at Bally's, but have been with Lifetime since 2005. Actually, I got a job there because I wanted to work out but didn't want to pay the $60/month membership fee. The job lasted 6 months, but when I quit, there was no way I could go back to Bally's, so I stayed. Even if you go at 5:30pm on a Tuesday night, you can still get on a cardio machine. Granted, it may not be the machine you originally wanted (like one of the newer ellipticals) but they have plenty to go around. The free weight area could be a little bigger, and the advanced training area was empty for a while, but lately when I've been there, people are taking up so much space and then don't put their stuff away when they are done, so I have ended up working out in a little corner, only to move when a space frees up. I love the variety and frequency of classes they offer. Some of the more popular classes have people lining up outside the studio 30 minutes before it starts, and I usually skip those classes because they get so packed there isn't much room to move, but I usually go on off hours so it's not as big an issue. I would love to see an outdoor pool at Troy so I wouldn't have to drive out to Rochester, but I can live with the 15 minute drive to the other club in the summer. It is always clean and I'm not afraid to walk around barefoot in the locker room like I am in other gyms. And I recently went to check out another gym because I was thinking of switching because lets face it, $60 is a bit much, and while I liked it, it wasn't Lifetime!!! Nice gym, great facilities. My main issue is the EVER CHANGING CLASS SCHEDULE. You HAVE to log into the website each time to view the classes, which I find to be extremely annoying. Especially because it's not accurate!!!! For example, today, I checked the website. Found a class. Drove out for a 2:15 p.m. yoga class, only to find out that it was cancelled because of the holiday weekend. There was no notification on the website of this at all! In fact, had I not seen the "weekend schedule" posted at the front desk, I would have walked all the way into the locker room and through the gym and into the class before realizing this.The girl at the desk sees me looking at the classes and I say "oh...wait..." after noticing there was only a morning class listed today. Her response?? " Oh yeah, I maybe should have said something to the other people who have been walking in with their mats.....?" I spent 30 min in the car for nothing. Pretty frustrating. The only complaint I have ever really had was that of a member or two. Lifetime Fitness Troy is a great place to workout/play basketball, and swim! Although I prefer the Rochester Hills location for weight/machine workouts, I have to give this gym 5 stars because of one amazing person: Abigail K. Abigail is a fitness instructor that teaches a variety of classes at this location. Dance Jam, a cardio-based dance class, is my personal favorite! Abigail is the best instructor I've ever had in my life and at the end of my workout I love looking down at my Apple Watch to see that I've burned over 500 calories. If you're looking for an incredible instructor or just someone to keep you motivated in your fitness goals, please come check out one of her classes! We love you Abigail! read more
