In addition, though I work hard there, I also have fun. At PF, one always works out under the guidance of a trainer. There are different kinds of classes, from strength training/cardio to tabata/toning to step or zumba or yoga. There are classes of different sizes. Some are as small as four people. The trainers are all very tuned into how each of us is doing and always have suggestions for modifying an exercise that doesn't work for any particular situation. Part of what makes PF special is the sense of community that Liza, the owner, and the other trainers have created. This is such a supportive, friendly place. I cannot imagine my life without Progress Fitness.

I've had three shoulder surgeries, breathing issues, and back issues. In dealing with these issues, EmPower has been by my side, on my side, helping me get strong again. Carla Beam, who is the General Manager at EmPower, has worked with me through all of my challenges, by altered my personal training sessions to meet my needs. She has worked with my physical therapist to ensure my workouts are helping my body and that I am not doing things to extend my recovery, which I probably would have if I was going to a 'normal' gym. As I write this review, we are three months into the COVID pandemic. Most of my friends are struggling to keep their strength training going, but I am actually getting stronger. When this all started, EmPower did not let their members miss a beat! Josh and Carla quickly started brainstorming and came up with a plan to keep members engaged and working out in their homes. They have offered live Zoom sessions many times throughout the week that have been awesome! I have been working out with EmPower about three times per week since this started, and I am amazed at the quality of every workout. I have very little equipment at home; however, Carla has come up with alternatives to using your typical gym equipment. And, every single workout has been different! Everyone that goes there is awesome and encouraging. With some other boxes around here, you're met with an elitist attitude. I won't go so far as to name names, but some of the people that go here travel from the Palmyra area because of the elitists from the other box. The facility is large and clean....don't be fooled by the exterior. The class sizes are kept to smaller groups, so you get more attention. If you can't do the WOD because of some injury or you just can't do some of the exercises, they will accommodate with alternatives. The price is really great compared to other CF boxes...starting at $10 a session. Granted, it isn't "globo-gym" priced, but you basically get a personal trainer working with you on every session. I have several friends that signed up for the YMCA when they were doing discounts for family memberships and they have gone a handful of times. So that $200 unlimited membership is probably going to cost them more in the long run and I guarantee they aren't getting a workout like we do. CrossFit itself is just amazing. You work hard, there's no doubt...it's not for everyone. I've been going here since it's grand opening last year and have seen some serious gains. I started out barely being able to do 20 consecutive squats and not a single pull-up to now deadlifting 255lbs and 10 consecutive strict pull-ups. I didn't really intend to lose any weight but I've dropped 2 waists sizes and have gained quite a bit of tone and muscle definition. Downsides? I had to buy a lot of new clothes. It's addicting so I find myself going to a WOD instead of mowing the lawn. You risk becoming a CrossFit Cult member.

Every workout focuses on strength, conditioning, flexibility, coordination, and the list goes on. The trainers teach you and take you through each and every workout in a small team setting. Its not like your typical gym, its more like a family of fitness. Warning: You will be challenged but you will be in the best shape of your life!
