He took a look, confirmed the leak, and let me keep the vehicle at the front of the driveway while I waited for a tow truck to come take the car to the dealership in Oxnard. I went to Powell Garage with my 2012 Kia Optima because the engine was making a weird knocking noise. I called them to see if they had room for me to inspect my vehicle. They had me drop my car the same day and come back in a couple hours later. Before doing any work they informed me that I had multiple recalls on my car and one of the recalls should require Kia to fix the issue for me. They did not charge me and offered me the information I needed to go to Kia. Fast forward Kia had a recall that was causing hundreds of thousands of car engines to blow up. Kia had to replace my engine at no cost besides new fitting parts. Thank you Powell Garage for your honesty and transparency into what you would recommend without charging me for things I may not need. They did not even charging me for this diagnostic, which after reading other reviews on mechanics in SB they most certainly would have. I will be a long time customer of Powell Garage and recommending anyone who needs a mechanic to go to Powell Garage. read more

Since my Subaru (named Luna) is a bit of a classic, I am very particular with who takes care of her. Due to her age and particularities, I've had bad experiences of rough handling that have had long lasting ramifications. Powell Garage was highly recommended by my neighbor. I called Paul and made an appointment for Luna. True to form, it took exactly the estimated time and was ready to pick up in great shape. Paul found areas requiring improvements. I felt that his pricing is fair and recommendations are legitimate. I had asked for a tire rotation and after inspection he said it wasn't necessary. This is a huge highlight of their transparency. A lesser place would've rotated, charged me $150, and I would never have known it wasn't necessary. I appreciate him taking the time to thoroughly inspect my vehicle. I brought my Jeep in and they quickly called me back with the diagnosed problem. (alternator). They suggested I contact the dealership in case it was under warranty. They also gave me a quote for the cost which sounded reasonable (and I confirmed from another mechanic a similar price for parts). in case it wasn't under warranty. Turns out it wasn't under warranty, but it was a recalled part from Jeep, so the dealership in Ventura is going to fix it for free. I appreciate Paul's guidance on a better solution. I didn't have anything fixed yet at Powell Garage, so I am not able to state how their work is, however I will go back to them as I feel they are a trusted mechanic source which guided me to around a $700 savings. read more

Last week was my first visit to Powell Garage. Paul and his team of mechanics there amazed me. I inherited a 1973 Triumph and after hearing a horrible noise I had it towed in. They found the source of the noise and found it needed only minor repair (luckily!) but they did a thorough inspection and found a gas leak (replaced a clamp) and also fixed the knocking sound which I had thought was normal. It now runs better than ever. The cost was minimal and they took time to explain all of their work. I am a happy customer and definitely will be a return customer! read more

I've been going to these guys for many years now. I live near by them and one thing my neighbor pointed out is at 9am their lot is full of cars and by 5pm it's almost empty. That seems like a very good thing. They are honest, efficient and very knowledgeable. They have saved me a lot of money over the years because of this. I usually take my cars (both Subaru's) to them even when it might be free at the dealership because I trust them more. I put a lot of miles on my cars and they are always good at keeping them running like they are new. I can't say enough about these guys. They all have a very polite, friendly and professional manner. I had a problem that kept reoccurring, and they worked and worked until they figured it out. Turns out my car is ridiculous, but they never gave up on me! This will be my go-to garage from now on. It's a clean, professional and well-run family-owned operation. The fuel pump on my car went out and being that this thing is already on its last legs, I didn't want to spend a fortune to get it fixed. They were totally accommodating and let me buy the cheaper, after-market fuel pump at the auto parts store and installed that for me. I like these guys but just as a heads up you'll have to make an appointment. I've called on 3 seperate occasions early in the day to try to get in same day and they couldn't do that. They're not open on weekends either. I just wanted an oil change. Super disappointed :( read more
