In all fairness I can't comment on the quality of ATG's repair work nor venture a prognosis on the life expectancy of a vehicle based on my band's return road trip... because I didn't get beyond the estimation stage with these guys. What I can say, is that if cost as well as quality is important to you in establishing a business relationship with an auto shop (my car will need a considerable amount of work over the next six months) then I strongly suggest you look elsewhere. Find someone who will work with your repair needs AND your budget. When I was quoted $990 for a front brake rotor replacement and replacement pads for the rear brakes, I was floored... "That sounds exorbitant. I'm not in a position to pay over $900 for a brake job." "Well, we can just put the tires back on and you can pick up the vehicle." "How much just for the front brakes?" "Oh, about $600. You know that includes the grease... and we only use the absolute best parts." (He actually played up the cost of grease.) "Can you send me an itemized estimate over email?" "No, my computer doesn't do that." (Hmm, time warp back to 1997.) I attempted to negotiate less expensive parts, etc. but ATG wouldn't work with me... AT ALL. They wouldn't knock off $100, or use a differently priced rotor or brake pads. Nada. Zero. Not... one... penny. So I finally said that I didn't think that a brake job should cost that much. The shop manager then asked me, "Well, then how much should it cost?" Excellent question. I got off the phone, called two additional shops and explained that the front rotors and pads needed replacing. The first one, off the top of his head, for my make, model and engine size quoted me a price of $450. The second shop actually took the time to price out the parts and quoted me a cost of $302, including labor. That's $298 less than ATG quoted me for the exact same front brake job. Both shops were located between .5 - 1 mile away from ATG. ATG, I actually considered giving you an extra mercy star for maintaining a polite demeanor while trying to fleece me, because I'm nice like that. But I think I'd rather just be honest about my experience, because I'm accurate like that. Oh and one more tip for those of you who read through this entire review... check out Napa Auto Parts online to get a quick ballpark on the price range of low to mid to high end auto parts. The shop is small enough that the customer service is extremely personal and you know that they're not making you purchase something you don't need. My car got repaired in one day, which is almost unheard of for most shops- I felt like I was a priority even though it was my first time in the shop. What to say.. This shop has it's priorities in order. Jamie looked at the information I provided them from Krep's Automotive and took my vehicle for a free of charge assessment. Where upon they confirmed the transmission issues and while looking around found that I had a bad coil. Which was causing the engine to idle incorrectly. The members of staff where all courteous and involved me every step of the way. While the manifold was off it was suggested that the 3 exposed coils be replaced at the same time and that all 6 spark plugs be done too. Thus saving me down the road labor fees. I listened to their insightful and suggestive thoughts and agreed. GREAT team of people and even picked me up after when repairs were done. Thank you very much guys. read more

Spoke to Jamie over the phone, scheduled appt. Took in my car for examining the noise that could be from Alternator decoupler or Water Pump. I asked him for an estimate and initial estimate was $300. He called up an hour later and said the problem was alternator decoupler and suggested we replace the alternator all together for $425 + Tax addtl. . ( $300 Parts + $125 Labor). They use non OEM parts and purchase them from OReilly Auto parts and charge customers almost twice the purchase amount (Original cost $166 - price paid at ATG$297). I have never seen an auto store that isn't a dealer charge you 190% above selling price on parts. I could have understood if they said labor costs twice as compared to other facilities or parts cost 30% more for profits. Overall I Paid $133 over what Oreilly parts store located two streets away was selling the alternator for. My regular mechanic Bob was out of town and suggested I see these guys. He himself was puzzled when I told him about the Price I Paid and felt sorry for recommending me to ATG. Lesson learnt the hard way out! I will take my business to some other place and suggest you guys reading my review to do the same. read more

I HIGHLY recommend taking your vehicle here for any service! They are a fantastic shop with a friendly and knowledgeable staff. I was having car troubles so I took my Acura to the Honda dealership in Goleta and I mentioned that once in a while, my car would overheat. Well, the dealership fixed my break problem but they said that there was no problem with the cooling system. Then, I took my car in for an idle problem a week later and they said that the radiator was cracked on the top and had a small leak but when I went to check out the radiator myself, I couldn't see a leak of any kind, only a little dried up coolent from me filling my own radiator and spilling. The dealership was going to charge me $500 to replace the radiator and that is when I contacted ATG for a price quote on getting my radiator replaced. Not only did they quote me $100 cheaper than the dealership on replacing the radiator, they double checked the cooling system and found that the thermostat was faulty and that there was a minor leak from where a hose connects to the radiator but they determined that the radiator itself was just fine by way of a pressure test. Needless to say, ATG saved me $300 from getting a new radiator from the dealership and simply replaced the thermostat and tightened up the hose clamp to stop the small leak. If you are looking for an honest Auto Repair Shop that will take car of you instead of taking advantage of you, I recommend giving ATG a chance. You wont regret it. Also, ask for Jamie, he made me feel comfortable about leaving my car in their hands which was a load off my mind. read more

Took my car in because the engine was shaking to the point where I couldn't look out my rearview mirror. Also asked for an oil change ATG tells me one of the engine mounts is bad and needs to be replaced. $200. Fine. Get my car back, engine still shakes just as bad, and I am charged $300 in total because apparently oil changes are $100 now. Took my car to Top Shop where they told me that the other motor mount is also broken. Told ATG that, they denied it. Tell me that it's basically impossible to fix this problem and it's just a problem with my car that I will always have. So why did you charge me $200 if nothing was going to be fixed? I honestly think, as a customer that these guys are a 5 star rating - I put 4 stars to prove I wasn't just worker that is writing reviews for their own business, though I put 4, I would rate them a 5. The guys that work here are honest about the price and what it will take to get the job done. Though I believe the previous reviewer, I don't think this shop deserves what he relayed. I don't know, I wasn't there, but I honestly would say these guys are amazing at what they do and will impress if you decide to come here. If you are in a hurry and have to get somewhere by the next day, and the job is doable with a days work, they will set aside what their currently doing and work past when their hours say to get the job done. I had my 2000 cougar towed to Automotive Technician Group after I talked to Selven on the phone. The understanding was that the shop will check out why the car did not start and get back to me with expected cost. Selven, called me back and stated that the car needed a new alternator and the cost would be $375 for the parts and $240 for labor. The total bill would have been $615. This was higher than the local Ford dealer who quoted me $207 for a new Motorcraft top of the line alternator and a local shop that quoted me $200 for labor. I called Selven back and stated that I would provide him with the alternator from Perry Ford and would pay him the $240 for his labor and if he could also fix the ignition lock. He agreed and he eventually charged me $155 for repairing the ignition key lock. Well I should have been happy with a $395 labor bill but here is the rest of the story: A week after this repair was made by the Automotive Technician Group, I found out that the battery was not secured in the car after they recharged it and consequently was bouncing in the battery tray, which caused the positive cable to be partially severed so that it did not charge properly and impacted the performance of the alternator. The end result was that the battery drained completely and was damaged (this was a 3 month old battery). I also found out that the ignition lock was not repaired properly as the key cannot be inserted cleanly, it's hard and does not always work the first time. Because of the shoddy work at Automotive Technician Group. I had to replace the positive cable to the alternator from the battery and replace the battery for an additional cost of $400. I gave Selven and the Automotive Technician Group a 1 star because they were very nice on the phone even though they charge more than premium retail prices and deliver low quality work. BTW: Read the reviews for ATG in Yelp not Automotive Technical Group, they are more reflective of what service you will get. This is my only Yelp review ever, I am always very fair and satisfied with small business owner as I know they are trying to make a living. Not this time and never again with ATG or Automotive Technical Group. read more

They showed me everything that they fixed and the ways in which the old parts were damaged, they explained why certain parts needed fixing, and they did it all extremely quickly (especially since I was a drop in). Plus, they checked my car to make sure that everything else was working well AND they gave me excellent recommendations for other spots to take my car when it needs services that they don't offer. I even saw them recommend another client to a different auto shop who specialize in what the client needed, even though they could have done the work. Grade A Skimpers. Brought my subaru in after they're shop was referred to me by a friend of Jamie's and I was overcharged for a gasket replacement and then a few weeks later I had an 02 sensor go bad so I brought it back in and Jamie quoted me almost $450 saying that my whole circuit had gone bad. It sounded fishy so I went home and tested the circuit myself and the thing was fine, I ended up buying the new sensor online (cost less than ATG quoted me) and replaced it myself. Received a call from Jamie the next day as to why I hadn't come in and I told him that I has fixed the problem and knew he was trying to rip me off. He didn't even apologize after I had caught him and his shop redhanded, he wanted me to come and pay for the consult which he "kindly" waived knowing he was going to get and extra $350 out of me. Stay away from ATG if you want to hold onto your money. They will take advantage of you, it doesn't matter if you have a referral from a friend of Jamie. He sees someone who he thinks doesn't know much and cars and is like a fox in the henhouse. Can't stress this enough, stay away! read more
