The head was badly worn and action was too high. It had been sitting in a closet for awhile and needed some help. Now a luthier may be fantastic with guitars, but banjo's are a different critter. You really have to know what you're doing. I own four banjo's so I found this out the hard way. Dan had a bit of trouble finding the proper head, but he persevered and obtained one. He installed the head, lowered the action and set up the instrument properly. This was not an easy repair and I would not trust just any luthier with it. Dan had the knowledge and expertise to do it right! Now this beautiful banjo sounds just as good as it looks, I am proud to add it to my collection. Thanks Dan, Del

I let them know that I was on my way and that my GPS said that I'd be arriving right around their 1PM closing time. The person I was talking with (Ariel?) said that was no problem; they'd hold the item for me at the front desk and would stay until I arrived. I really appreciated the great service! It made my busy day a lot less stressful and I'll definitely keep shopping at Quartet for our sons' string instrument needs.

In addition, I have my post-baccalaureate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Pacific University, and have a great amount of insight into the physiology of the human voice and the science of sound. After many years of studying vocal physiology and using this information in my own singing, as well as that of my students, I have come to believe strongly in the value of learning everything you can about the way your voice works. Although we all have a unique vocal tone, we also have a lot of control over the sounds we make through placement, support, air flow, vowel choice, mouth shape and dynamics. When people ask me if their voice is good enough to sing, I always say a resounding YES! I think singing is for everybody, and I love the process of helping my students find their authentic sound.

We've all had our bad experiences with instrument repair, not many things can be so frustrating and demoralizing, which is why I've stuck with Mike and followed him through his many stops. He takes extra care to make sure I'm happy with the work, from explaining what I'll need upfront, to minor tweaks to suit my needs before the guitar leaves the shop. He even helped me figure out a few songs my cement fingers were having trouble with. I am fully confident in recommending Sound Service to you.

I met Mike when he bought a piece of gear off of me and he informed me that he also does tech work…read more I was immediately interested, not only because Mike is a super nice guy, but after having lived in SF for some time, I had become disenchanted with most of the guitar techs in the city. In my experience most charge an arm and a leg for routine work, and don't have much time on their hands to interact with their customers. After doing some inquiry into Mike's reputation (which was stellar) I decided to give him a call about refretting what was probably my most prized guitar. We spoke for almost an hour in person going back and forth about my options and his recommendations. Ultimately, his recommendation is what I decided to go with. I could not be happier with both Mike's work and his advice. My guitar has never played better and his refret job was superb. In addition his prices were fair and reasonable. Mike is a stand-up guy, excellent tech, and I wouldn't hesitate to call him for any work in the future.
