There are no passenger elevators, so trekking up and down the stairs with luggage without being "climatized" to the altitude is a challenge. It should be noted the staff will assist you with your luggage if necessary. Regarding the location, it is fantastic. The views are incredible; it literally looks like a post card. Although not skiing season, there are lifts (not in operation due to summer) everywhere. I imagine it gets pretty packed and crazy during the winter. Hiking opportunities are everywhere right outside the lodge. We went on a "novice" hike that took us to the top of a mountain like eight miles away. OMG. As part of the wedding party and my officiant duties, there were multiple breakfast and dinners organized by Alta Lodge. The staff was fantastic, and the food was good. Alta Lodge also has a weekend brunch that attracts people from all over the area. The brunch was top notch! Regarding the accommodations, we had a fireplace, balcony, and a view of the mountains. It was a great sight. Our room did a have a bad smell (as did other rooms in our group) that I believe is the result of months/years of moisture in the carpet, drapes, and wood. This is the only thing I did not care for. Only other issue is the front desk is not occupied 24/7, and anyone can walk off the street and into the hotel. I would recommend better security. Overall, the customer service and quality of wedding organizer made up for the two issues noted above. Again, the service at Alta Lodge was excellent!

This is one of the best ski resorts I've been to, though may not be ideal for beginners, as some of…read morethe blue runs feel tougher than black diamonds at smaller resorts. This was my first season skiing, and my first time here I made the mistake of going up Gadzoom and Little Cloud chairs and got cliffed out in Little Cloud Bowl with all the black diamonds. I wasn't going to call ski patrol to take me down in the basket like my friend did at the top of Gadzoom after having a panic attack, and slowly, tediously made my way down. It was quite the adventure, looking back. I couldn't believe how long it took and how much distance and vertical drop I covered to get to the bottom; the runs here are some of the longest I've been on. One benefit of this resort over Alta is not needing parking reservations during weekends, which saved my ski day one Saturday I tried going to Alta without a parking reservation, then had to come here after talking to the parking attendant there putting $250 tickets on cars without reservations. The skiable area is massive here as well, and there's a whole other skiable side of the mountain (Mineral Basin) with breathtaking views you get to by taking this conveyer belt thing through a secret mining tunnel. The hoards of snowboarders do cause way more lines and congestion here than Alta, and I had to wait in line for a while for the tram on a Saturday. Luckily I soon found the secret tunnel I won't disclose the location of, and was able to ski at Mineral Basin with no lines the rest of that day. There's a lot more moguls and worse snow coverage here than Alta as well, though this year was an extreme outlier and the worst snow year in 4+ decades. It's a shame the Ikon pass only has 7 days to split between here and Alta, as I used up most of my days at Alta and didn't get a chance to explore all the different areas of this vast resort this season.

Little cottonwood canyon receives (objectively) the highest quality snow in the world (And a lot of it!). Some of the hardest, gnarliest terrain in the world is found across the entire resort. Some of my favorite adolescent memories reside here, and snowbird will always hold a special place in my heart. I could go on and on about the endless pros and minimal cons, but I believe every passionate skier deserves to experience the magic of the Wasatch mountains for themselves... With this being said, snowbird is NOT a family friendly or beginner mountain. There are an extremely low number of beginner/intermediate trails, and even these can get bumped up...

This biggest "pro" to this place is that it is about a 7 minute walk from the bottom of Collins…read morelift. That's a pretty big pro-- but ultimately we found it offset by some "cons" which will likely keep us from choosing the Peruvian again in the future. Especially at $550/night. In addition to the proximity to the mountain, they also have an onsite ski shop. We did enjoy the big lobby and lower level room it's well set up with spots to hang out, play games, read a book, or get some work done. You can drop your bags & ski until your room is ready or after check-out and they nicely accommodated a 1 pm check out for us, which I greatly appreciated. Your food is included in your room charge. The breakfast & lunch is served buffet style and set out on sterno burners at the start of service and not refreshed before the end of service. While I made the best of it the three days we stayed, the breakfast & lunch were not enjoyable. Dinner, on the other hand, was surprisingly good. They had a different vegetarian option each evening and several non-veg entrees +soup, a few salads, and several desserts. The drinks were also very reasonable. I would love to see an afternoon snack service of some type (even just more cookies) offered between lunch & dinner. But there is a small store that does carry some sundry snacks if you get peckish. Being avid skiers who've stayed our fare share of ski lodging, we were prepared for the very small, not updated, old-timey-"charm" that is the Peruvian and we are not fussy about that sort of thing. That said, they missed the mark on some of the basic expectations around cleanliness, leading to my 3 star review. Most acutely, the bathroom in our unit was not cleaned between guests & although they sent someone in to clean after we complained, the bathroom remained sub-par on the cleanliness scale. On a seemingly more chronic level dishes & silverware in the dining room were frequently dirty and the hot tubs were also not particularly clean. Oh, and the bed was one of the least comfortable beds I've ever slept in. We come to the SLC area annually and have stayed slope-side, hotel in SLC, with friends, AIRBNB, etc. We were excited to stay slope-side at Alta but will revert back to staying elsewhere and driving the 30 minutes from town if we want to ski at Alta, oh well.

The last time I went it was snowing while sunny out somehow, with the sun shining through the storm clouds above, and felt surreal. This was my first season skiing, though this is hands down the best ski resort I've been to so far. One time this April I made the mistake of crossing over into Snowbird's Mineral Basin, and the conditions were so much worse for just being on the other side of the ridge. It was way hotter, sunnier, and more crowded, with way more rocks, moguls, and dirt spots littering the runs, so I crossed back into Alta after 2 runs. The runs at Alta are wide and well groomed, so you can pick up some serious speed without feeling like you're risking your life doing so. Late season there was barely anyone else there too, even while it was snowing somehow (likely an effect of not allowing snowboarders). The staff here are top notch and always professional, and Alta has some of the best chairlifts I've seen. Another huge plus is how close you can park to the points at which you get on the base mountain chairlifts, as walking in ski boots while carrying skis is no fun. You can literally ski right up to your car at the end of the day if you park in the right spot. They also have a rope tow from base to base, which saves you from possibly having to take the bus at the end of the day to the other base. The only hiccups here were the requiring of parking passes on weekends, and the pass scanner machine midway up Collins Lift not reading my Ikon Pass with no worker nearby to help, so I'd have to ski down to the bottom and take the lift all the way up.

Alta is always our favorite resort on powder days if we're lucky enough to get a cold storm moving…read morethrough during the weeks, we're in SLC! Reserving parking required. We parked by 7:30am and hung out in the lodge until 8:30 AM when we lined up at Collins lift to get first tracks and the powder. Avalanche control going all morning. Today's storm wasn't very cold so the powder was heavy. The bowls didn't open up but skiing was still great! Plenty of terrain to cover even without the bowls. Because the powder was heavy, people were clearing out by 2 PM.

I even booked a room on the 9th-floor Spa Level so I'd have convenient access to what's advertised as the "premium" gym. I woke up at 5:30 a.m. ready for my normal pre-ski workout, only to find the Spa Level gym doesn't open until 8:00 a.m. For anyone who takes training seriously, that's essentially useless. I dragged myself downstairs to the alternative gym, which is tiny--basically a hotel "fitness room" with rows of cardio equipment and almost no free weights or functional training space. For a resort that charges luxury rates and positions itself as the home base for high-performance skiing, this was shockingly inadequate. If you're a serious athlete or even someone who just wants a legitimate morning lift before hitting the mountain, be prepared for major disappointment. Snowbird/Cliff Lodge really needs to step up its gym game or at least be upfront that early-morning training isn't an option here. Although he remained professional throughout the interaction, he was uninterested in helping me with my blight of having an SUV stuck in 20 inches of fresh snow. His only solution was to tell me to "take a shovel and deal with it yourself. We're busy. If you don't finish, you can continue working on it after you get back from skiing at 4 PM." His response was very dismissive, rushed, and condescending. He didn't even extend the courtesy of asking someone from his team to help. After shoveling snow for 20 minutes, I see him sitting at reception, doing nothing. This is an absolutely UNACCEPTABLE attitude towards guests. However, as a saving grace, the other employees at Goldminer's Daughter Lodge were PHENOMENAL. Two different employees noticed me struggling to shovel snow and immediately got a shovel and helped me. If not for these kind folks, I would have missed my flight.

Housekeepers apologized for not servicing our room on our last day but they came thru with towel, toilet paper and extra cookies! Location can't be beat, with the main resort building just across the way. The best dining option in the resort is here as well, the Lodge Bistro. Love them complimentary ski/board check back at the main resort plaza too. Also the coffee and tea service at the main desk, even though there are coffee makers in the rooms too. Didn't use it myself but there's a pool and hot tub outside with towels provided. All in, good choice.

Brighton's a pretty resilient ski resort, still snowing here in mid to late April, despite Solitude…read moreright next to it getting rain instead and having to end their season much sooner. Brighton's so deep in the mountains, it was getting even more snow than Alta or Snowbird late season. Nonetheless, most of the skiable area was closed from late April on, and they had some really sticky slush near the bottom. I went here on the week of April 20th (the stoner holiday) not thinking anything of it, and have never seen such a high concentration of intoxicated, degenerate, drug-obsessed college kids and degenerate behavior. These kids were consuming alcohol on the runs, making fun of, laughing at and humiliating beginners, and couldn't stop chairlift blabbing about jumping people, buying alcohol underaged, and "whippets" or however you spell it, their apparent drug of choice. Having an Ikon Pass and going to Alta that same week, I wanted to find the explanatory factor for the extreme disparity in guests between here and Alta that particular week. I looked online and saw Brighton was selling day passes for only $49, and marketing their late season as an event, "The Meltdown", geared toward younger people looking to party. Most of the staff here were nice and professional, with one exception. This attractive blonde girl working here was rude and standoffish when I asked what time they close, as they kept changing the closing time, seemingly on a daily basis, and nobody seemed to know. Different websites said different times and their closing time varies by day of the week, time of the season, weather, even by lift or section of the mountain, so it was like a Scooby-Doo mystery trying to figure it out. Then to get an attitude like "What... what time do we close?! You're hitting on me?!! You can't think of a better pickup line than that?! You know how many pickup lines I hear a day??" Probably not the right person to be working in hospitality. On the upside, the night skiing and tree skiing was exceptional here when I went earlier in the season, and the girl I took said this was her favorite resort. When I tried taking her to Snowbird she had a panic attack, saying it was too steep, and had to have ski patrol take her down in the basket, so Brighton's probably more beginner friendly.
