Beautiful setting. Helpful managers. Close to trails but not far out of town. Big pull through spaces, too!

NIce place and people. My only complaint is that my site lacked a fire pit where most of the others had one

We booked a tent site well in advance so we didn't run into issues finding a spot on Labor Day…read moreweekend. Having never been to this resort or camped in the area, everything we read and saw about this place looked great and we were excited! Fast forward to us actually getting there in person to camp and the utter disappointment and frustration of the experience we were met with. First, for me to say the designated tent sites were "cramped" is a complete understatement. If you like camping right up against others and rubbing tents with each other, I guess this spot is for you. Second, and the more important issue... was the lack of any notice about their "1 tent per site" policy. Though with the first issue mentioned above, I can see why they say that I guess. Lol... What was beyond frustrating though was the fact they didn't list this anywhere on their site or BEFORE allowing us to book the reservation. We wanted to setup two tents. 1 for the kids, and 1 for us parents, but we literally had to go hunting for another campground upon arrival because we weren't allowed to setup our camp as planned and had no way of knowing until we got there. The manager, Becka was less than sympathetic about our situation and simply quoted us the rulebook about cancellation/refunds and the 1 tent per site policy with no regard for our situation and saying things like, "Where else even lets you setup more than one tent in a camping space?" as if we're the crazy ones for imagining a camping trip using more than one tent for the family. I'd say, be sure to read the fine print about the site(s) before booking here, but in our case there was no fine print to warn us and as a result, our camping trip started off with huge frustrations on this and having to later setup tents in the dark at another location we were finally able to find. Final thought on the matter - I'm more than fine with the rule of no cancellations/refunds if not before 48 hours or whatever it was. That's pretty standard and to be expected. Except for the fact that we didn't need to or want to cancel until we arrived the day of and were informed about the 1 tent per site policy that made it impossible for us to camp there. That's 100% the fault of the resort, SO BE WARNED!

The grounds were nice and kept, it was super quiet and safe as they have day and night guards that cruise around in their golf carts. It's an easy point to see tons of fabulous things in SLC downtown and easy access to the main freeways if you are going farther. To am from Salt Lake and there is a ton of things that are fabulous to see from the Fine Arts Gallery or the Utah Museum of Natural History at the University of Utah to the Temple especially at Christmas for the lights, to hiking areas, great food options from basic food to super great upper end options, wine bars, breweries, coffee shops and ice cream shops. There are a lot of activities for children of all ages from the planetarium in the city creek area to the Aquarium out south. Enjoy your stay!

At night, there was lots of shady activity with loud music and people arguing in the middle of the night. It's quieter at the back end of the campground. I also think that for the price, it could be much better manicured. No mowing done in weeks with tall grass and weeds at every site. I was highly disappointed. If you're transient camping it's fine, but if you're here to visit SLC for more than one night, I recommend finding something in a better location Not good. People are nice and the facilities are nice and clean. Overall location and campsites were not good.

Winning that distinction is no small feat, as there are so many spots to stay along Utah's most prominent scenic byway, but it's just got so much going for it. First, it's at about 10,300ft in elevation, which means that in the blazing heat of summer, you may just kiss the '70s, spend most of the day in the '60s, and have those incredible nights in the tent in the '40s where you thank your lucky stars that you have someone who will go up the Mirror Lake Highway with you and hike by day, and snuggle up in a sleeping-bag-for-two by night. I've not actually had that last experience, but it's on my list. At any rate, the elevation is just what you need in summer, and is not to be messed with in cooler temps. The Highway actually closes during winter, so this campground typically doesn't open until around Memorial Day each spring. The namesake lake is delightful, and planted with willing trout. There are no monster fish lurking in the deep, but the kids will get a kick out of drowning a worm beneath a bobber. I also like that the lake is far enough away from the campsites that you're not constantly worrying about little ones wandering off to play in the water. The further up the road in the campground, the more true this is. If you're looking to launch off for adventure, there are hikes on hikes on hikes. My favorite ever lackadaisical hike I've ever had was on the MLH, but you can find your own. The western terminus of the Highline Trail is just a few hundred feet away down the road, so check that out for a starting point, or grab one of the other many trailheads at your disposal-Ruth Lake, Mirror Lake, Fehr Lake-those are all bodies of waters and names of nearby trailheads. I typically stay in dispersed campsites, but having a few resources, restrooms, parking, and a picnic table is nice sometimes too. I dream of staying here in the height of summer, of making overly-complicated camp meals, of wandering the creeks, of homemade marshmallow s'mores, hand-churned ice cream, and that warm sleeping bag at night.
