Every single time we are required by AAA to deal with these people - maybe 3 or 4 times in 20 years - it's a nightmare. They are always rude, lazy and wholly uninterested in helping. I once saw a Powder Mill Truck almost run another car off the road and when I called up to tell them, they acted like it wasn't a big deal. The guy was in a truck twice the size of the car and he literally pushed the other car! That is a big deal. The one time we needed them to repair something (20 years or more again, we'll never use them again) they gouged us AND we had to have the work redone. They are not pleasant people. AAA needs to remove them from their list. read more

My car overheated early Saturday afternoon on our way home from an overnight trip. I pulled off 287S into the Wegmans parking lot and contacted AAA to have it towed. Kenny from Powder Mill Towing responded quickly and let us know we would have to wait a bit for their larger truck since there were two of us needing to go with the vehicle. Our wait was not overly long, and we were met by a courteous young man named Joseph, who carefully loaded our car while working around other cars that parked too close to us. Our trip home to our designated service station was pleasant, with friendly conversation to make the time pass quickly. Joseph was just as careful dropping off our car as he was loading it. I forgot to update my review so they get kudos for availability however, they were training a person on how to patch a tire using my car. The very next day I woke up to a deflated tire. They didn't let the tire patch cure before sending me on my way. Furthermore I proceeded to email and call them a few times to no avail. I ended having to go to a Mavis and that was mixed as well if you can track down my review from when all this happened as the Mavis shop proceeded to lie to me and say that I needed new struts. My Jeeps battery light went on and then all the lights on the dashboard started blinking. The car died on the highway. Thankfully I was able to steer the car to the right shoulder as it turned off, but it was scary. Massive trucks were coming behind me at full speed. I called Powder Mill Towing and they came immediately. I spoke to Chris and after asking me a couple of questions, he was able to tell me it sounded like the problem may be the alternator. I was an hour away from home and decided to have the car towed to PMT. Eric was professional and did a great job getting the car towed to Powder Mill. Our technician's name was Robert H and although he was prompt, he was also the most unprofessional and ill-tempered man. He scolded us the minute he met us and yelled "I've been looking for you for 20 minutes". He started to throw things around in his truck and ranted "I'm tired of these shit calls I'm getting". It was dark out and we were two young women locked out of a car and his nasty behavior was uncalled for. We had no way of contacting him to help him find us on the dark road or warn him about the obstacle in his way. Perhaps we could have asked him to unlock the car but we were intimidated by his aggressive behavior. Our face-to-face interaction lasted five minutes tops because at that point, Robert decided to leave. My car front balljoint came out and had no idea what to do. I called AAA for a wheel lift truck and they sent a flat bed truck I was a little mad at first but then I started talking with the driver. Andrew the tow truck driver said let me try something to get it on the truck and into the shop. It took Andrew a few seconds to think of a idea to get my SUV on the bed of the truck, but with in no time he was able to get my SUV that wouldn't move on the bed on the truck. And the fact the Andrew said I was looking at the problem like it was his owe car, just by him saying that made me as a customer feel relieved that my car would make it to the shop with no other damages caused to it. On my way home today, one of their drivers on 287 northbound was driving like a maniac in heavy traffic - one of those horrible truck drivers who think that cars should yield to them because they're driving a big truck. I got a flat tire on a major highway during a snowstorm... talk about luck. Not to mention this is my first adulthood moment dealing with a car issue. Luckily I am a member of AAA (totally recommend)! I called AAA immediately (and then my dad). AAA put me in touch with a local towing company, Powder Mill Towing. Within 30 minutes, someone from Powder Mill Towing was at my service in the snow and changed my flat tire. Then I followed him back to the shop and they were able to repair my flat tire and get me on the road within the hour. All in all my flat tire fiasco took me about 2 hours. I got a flat tire so triple A sent me someone from the powder mill towing company. He changed my tire but used the wrong bolts for the spare and I almost died driving my car to the repair shop. My tire was barely secured on my car and because he didn't use the correct bolts he ended up stripping the part of my car that the tire screws into so it costs $1,100 in damages and it took a week to repair. So not only did they destroy my car but on top of everything they are claiming they did nothing wrong!!! Almost killed by power mill flatbed truck on 287. The truck went from the shoulder of the road to the right lane then to the center lane , no problem with that , right ? The only problem is I was in the center lane right where he was going. I used my horn to no avail and he just kept on going. If I did not change lanes at the last second I would have been hit , and didn't get a chance to look in the fast lane for traffic if there had been anyone there I would have hit them. I tried to slow down to get a plate # or id the driver but he too slowed down and kept well behind me. Biggest con artists of all time!!! Should be basically prosecuted! My car was towed there after an accident. They didn't not notify me of any fees. Once I came to pick the car up the same day. They made up a $225 charge! For towing me for 1/2 mile from the accident. $125 for towing, $35 for storage, $40 for administrative (no idea what they administer). And some other bs charges. I tried to argue but the guy basically threaten me that either I pay now or he is closing shop and I will pay for another day of "storage". I was shocked! Really? That's what you do? They came out to me to replace my battery through AAA. The technician was very prompt. That's about where the good stuff ends. After replacing my battery, I point out that my display on my dash was black. The guy looks at it, says he's never seen anything like that before, mentions something about fuses, then drives away. The technician blew the fuses on my vehicle and, when confronted with the mistake basically ran away. Due to this, there are numerous electronic issues on my car that now need additional repairs. Among them: dash display is completely blank so audio and rear view camera is affected, wireless key has unpaired from car, dashboard displays reading incorrectly. Avoid this place, clearly their mechanics are clueless. read more

I would try to steer clear of this towing / auto repair establishment. I took in my 2006 Accord to have rotors, brake pads, and new caliper installed. The pad was smoking when it was driven, due to a frozen caliper. I removed the caliper bolts save for one bolt. I brought them the rotor, pads, and caliper for install. They charged me for 2 hours of labor at $88 per hour when everything was removed save for one bolt. They claimed the one bolt took one hour to remove! They are mechanics, that is not possible. Anyway, we feel very overcharged and would recommend you look elsewhere. We are notifying AAA not to put Powder Mill on their preferred tow / repair list due to this incident. Their response time was about 15 minutes and despite the shop being very busy, they commenced the work immediately. They were able to fix the problem which was caused by the careless mechanic at Hoover Dodge in Summerville, SC. When I phoned them to report the damage, the person I spoke with was rude and aggressively asserted that it was either me or the garage that was responsible for the damage despite the fact that the car in question had been sitting idly for the two previous months. He consistently interrupted and rode over my account of the sequence of events without once allowing me to respond to his speculations. Rather then pursue what was obviously going to be an extraordinarily unpleasant face to face confrontation, I had the damage repaired at my own expense, which was obviously Powder Mills' intent. Kind of too bad. My car had the oil pressure light come on and stay on so I called up my mechanic and had it towed. I told the tow truck driver there was no indication of oil pressure and we did not want to run it until our mechanic had a chance to look it over. He put it on the truck without starting it but when he went to drop it off, he started it up and let it run. When I pointed this out he said, "I'm a mechanic and it sounded OK, so I let it run." Excuse me, I am bringing it to MY mechanic because I have confidence in him, I have absolutely no confidence in some random dude in a tow truck. In this case, I lucked out because it was the pressure sensor. Had it not been, there is a good chance he would have trashed my engine. It would not have bothered him any since it is not his car. My car wouldn't start and I called triple a to have my car towed around noon on July 24th. They recommend Powder Mills Towing and Auto Repair. Powder Mills told me it was the starter and they could have one there by 3:30 and should be back on the road by 4. At 3 o'clock they told me they couldn't get the part until the next day. Being the weekend the car wouldn't be ready until Monday. No problem. Monday morning I paid for the repairs and left. I discovered later all my change left in the car was gone. Only about $17.00 but that's not the point. I hope whoever took the money, it was to buy food for their family. I will never use powder mills again. read more

I had a dead battery in my car the result of keys erroneously left in overnight. I called AAA and someone from this firm arrived 25 minutes later. The driver was rude and condescending. I had told the AAA rep that because this sort of thing had happened before, I might need a new battery. They assured me they would make sure this contingency would be taken care of. The driver then basically told me that he didn't have the time to do a battery replacement for two hours (something that on previous occasions only took 10 to 15 minutes) and all but stated that if my problem was that serious, he was prepared to leave me with a dead car in my garage thus rendering a joke of what I pay AAA for assistance for (whereupon he then is ranting, "Well that's AAA".). As it turned out, I didn't need a replacement, only a recharging, but he utterly failed to clarify in a helpful manner that it might not be that serious and instead was rude and obnoxious and had the gall to start laying on the "I've got other people to attend to" thing as if my problem was nothing and when he started to invoke COVID I snapped back that my father had died from it and I didn't need to hear any crap about that.
