I have been a customer for over 20 years (from simple hem work to more complicated wedding dress). It is a no frills establishment but Khim and staff are very hard working and honest. Always very busy so come early (they sometimes open before their stated business hours). There are 2 dressing rooms so you will have to wait if place is busy. I have been to other alterations places closer to me, but I always return to Poway Alterations Center. Their prices are more reasonable, and they are honest with what they can and cannot do and make recommendations to make sure the fit is correct. If there is any issue, they will correct onsite while you wait, if possible. read more

Kim is a magician and a saint. I have been going to her for almost a year, projects big and small. Everything I leave with her, she returns to me perfectly tailored within whatever window of time I need. Most recently, she altered my wedding dress and was able to turn it around in about two weeks! She was so knowledgeable, talked me through different bustle options, and made sure to hit the deadline for my wedding. Her prices are more than fair and her policy is that she does her best to make your deadline, but sometimes she will ask you for extra time if you are flexible, which I find an understandable and helpful policy. She definitely gets busy so make an appointment for big projects or come at off hours. read more

We brought my husband's work pants in to be hemmed, waited over a week, paid 20+ bucks for the job, and after one wash one of the legs came completely undone. Brought the pants back in only to be told we would be charged full price to redo it, because "you can't wash the pants because the glue comes undone." They didn't even stitch them--they were glued! Rude as hell, poor quality, and my second bad experience here so I guess that's on me. Go elsewhere if you want quality work done. read more

I think it's run by a sister and brother duo. They were the only shop that was able to accept my project with a 3 day turn around timeline right before the Christmas break. I initially called Poway Alteration Center to inquire on costs and how quickly they would be able to complete the alteration and to my surprise, they reassured me they could get it done in 2 days. I was shocked at how accommodating this place is and ensuring their customers are happy. I would definitely come here again when I need another alteration done. This was my go-to alterations prior to the pandemic, but since then I feel like their customer service have dropped while prices soared. In my last visit, I dropped off a pair of jeans to get it hemmed. They told me to come back on a specific day in 2 weeks. On my return weeks later, they unfortunately did not have it done. I had to wait 30 minutes for the 1 person working there to help a customer and then do a rush job on my jeans. No apologies. If I'm spending twenty plus dollars on a relatively simple job, I expect it to be ready on the date and time given. I will not be coming back here again. read more

My heart is broken. I had a cashmere sweater that had a hole in it from a moth. I made sure that it was the only hole that needed fixing. I paid and was told to pick it up in two weeks. When I picked it up, I assumed that it was okay and left. When I got home, I found 11 new holes in the sweater. I was so upset that I didn't take it back right away because I was worried that it would become more moth eaten and I wanted to come back in the winter when moth season was over with. I put it in the freezer to kill the moths and I brought it back months later. I recognize that I should have brought it back right away but I told them that I was willing to pay to fix the 11 new holes. I just wanted the sweater to remain in the plastic bag with the moth balls while it wasn't being fixed. The owner insisted that they didn't have a moth problem and I could have created the holes. The owner became very angry, started yelling and said she will not take my order because she cannot guarantee that more holes won't appear. I am heartbroken because I have a moth-eaten sweater and I won't be returning to their business. They did great work and I told her that I'm sad. She couldn't care less, she just continued to yell. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. My wedding is in 3 weeks and my sister (who is my MOH) went in to get her dress altered. The dress was altered just fine. BUT THEY LEFT A HUGE VERY NOTICEABLE STAIN ON HER DRESS. Not to mention, they didn't take ownership for it and claimed it was there when my sister got the dress. ABSOLUTELY NOT. It appears that the stain is from oil. Nor did they reimburse her for ruining her dress. Now we are left scurrying trying to figure out what to do about her dress. Wasted money. And extremely disappointed and frustrated. I had been recommended to even take my wedding dress here to be altered and THANK GOD I didn't. Who knows what could've happened. They obviously don't take care of their clothes or take ownership for their mistakes. My other bridesmaids were going to take their dresses here and I told them to absolutely do not go here, as the lady helping my sister was rude and ruined her dress.
