Attended a business event here with a group of 12 golfers, including Trick Shot maverick Dan Boever. The course looked gorgeous rom the clubhouse and it is open to the public (but it is a little pricey at $195). We started at the clubhouse with some pastries and coffee and then headed over to the driving range for a 1/2 hour show with Dan. Dan demonstrated his long drive skills (hit it over the 100ft high net 250 yards away) with the greatest of ease. He then proceeded to pull off tick shot after trick shot. One of my favorites was his three mile high drive (hit with a driver) to the 110 yard pin. Hang time of double digits. And accurate... We all headed off to a little (very in my case) golf and enjoyed this demanding course - each foursome got to play a few holes with Dan and all in all it was a fun days. You will need to bring your A game as this is a difficult, shotmaker's course. Lots of blind shots. Terrific course - give it a try! And then have a drink at the clubhouse and enjoy the view. read more

Great golf, worst customer service I've ever experienced at a nice golf course. 95 degrees and I couldn't get a water a 455pm on a Sunday. I understand no coolers with COVID, but come on. And the staff was rude about it and wouldn't help at all. The only one worth their time was the woman who works in the snack shack usually, but even she couldn't help. We finished at 7pm and they rushed us out of our carts so they could put them away and go home. The golf itself is fantastic, but when you pay $160-$225 for a round of golf, you're expecting a top notch experience. This wasn't it. Go play Ferry Point, Yale, Great River, or another great course that knows how to operate. read more

Very nice course and very challenging (to me). We paid $160 for 18 holes on a Monday at 2pm. Just beware that if you have bad knees/ankles this course is not for you as there are some climbs up steep embankments to get to many of the greens. The signage directing you to each hole is very poor and we made 4-5 wrong turns. The clubhouse is very weak and was closed when we finished at 6:15pm. Just a few water stations along the way though we did get a free bottle as we started. For $160 I did not think it was worth it. read more

Look, it'll be $250 or $140 (afternoons) for you to play here and it's a challenging track for sure. But for the price you get a well maintained course (at least in/as of June 2019), top notch golf carts with GPS, several opportunities to get food/drink during the round and staff that's courteous. It's definitely worth the $140 and depending on your wallet maybeeeee justifies the $250 some days. As far the the course goes, anyone with a handicap at/over 20 will probably struggle here and get frustrated at times. There are more than a few forced carries and keeping your drives consistently in the fairway is a must. But set your expectations, pack extra balls and enjoy the challenge. Can't confirm comments on Yelp about rude staff. Warm and fuzzy? No, but definitely polite and serve quickly, even on Father's Day when the course is overwhelmed with abnormally large population of dudes. read more

Played 18 holes with friends on 8/13/21. It was 94 degrees with a heat index of 100. We were informed there were 4 holes with water coolers, 2 on the front and 2 on the back nine. Our tee time was 1:30 and the hottest time of the day so needless to say water availability on the course was important. We paid $165 each. The course was ok, a typical Pete Dye layout, innumerable sand traps, grass mounds and water hazards; a bit too may visual distractions for my liking. On the back nine we found the 2 promised water stops to be empty. A cart girl made a pass or two with water to buy so we were able to get some hydration. All of us were pissed that the staff at PR were unable to complete a simple task of making sure water was available on a blistering hot day. We expressed our unhappiness at this fact and the junior assistant counting the days receipts in the clubhouse couldn't have been more arrogant and unprofessional with his response. Basically said water was put out on the course and couldn't have cared less about out complaint. Long story short we thought for $165.00/each the least the staff could do was make sure their customers were well hydrated. We thought wrong. One and done for us. read more

Cannot wait to go back... For a few weeks, I was looking for an end of season road trip for my golf partner and myself. The obvious choice is the Black Course up on Long Island, but I was still open to any suggestion, and while watching the PGA Championship at the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island, I Googled "Pete Dye Design" and fate hooked us up with Pound Ridge GC. Pound Ridge is just under an hour from NYC deep in the rolling hills and dark green forests just left of Stamford, CT. Just after we got out of Yonkers, it was a beautiful drive to start the perfect golf outing. On arrival, it was like a day at the spa. The golf spa, lol... Drive up to the bag drop, they unload the trunk, tell you everything there is to know about the facility, and send you off to practice for the upcoming round. We walked in the clubhouse, I paid, bought a couple logo balls, then off to the driving range. The driving range, I must say, is the only only only negative experience in this whole trip. BUT it's not too bad. It's a short driving range with those thick skinned, hard as rocks, limited distance balls. And the gray carpet leaves a thin layer of schmutz on the bottom of your irons. I actually lost all faith in my iron play on the driving range, but I did turn it around, and if you can hit good on this range, you will kill it out on the course. We also hit the putting green and the pitching area which gave us a good view of what we were in for. Teeing off on #1 has to be one of the most exciting things in the world. One is very forgiving with a fairway you cannot miss. The second shot is to a slightly downhill green that is equally hard to miss, but after that, the fun begins. This course is full of narrow fairways, blind drives, blind second shots, hazards of DEATH, water, rock walls, and the greens... The greens are long and narrow. Some are narrow and demand a perfectly straight shot. Some are perpendicular and demand perfect yardage. And putting on these greens is like putting on a pool table. They are slick. With a couple unfair pin positions the day we went out, there were uphill putts that if you didn't hit, the ball would roll right back down to your feet, how convenient... The highlights of my day were the fact that I only missed three fairways, I birdied #11(181yd par 3), and had a birdie chance at the signature #15. The lowlights(new word) of my day were my waterball on #4(139yd. par 3), my frolic through the rough on #9, my short drive on #14(par 4, but with a huge carry over some wetlands with a huge wall on the other side, couldn't do it.), MY THREE PUTT BOGEY ON #15(had an 8 foot birdie putt turn into a six foot par putt, and so on...), and missed left on #18, which is the last thing you want to do. My advice: ~Hit the fairway!!! ~Miss the fairway? Chip back on, DON'T TRY TO BE A HERO. The rough is THICK, it will grab your club and not let go. ~Spend as much time as you can on the practice green, learn the speed, and get some good lag putts. Course highlights: ~Short bent grass, THICK rough, and even worse fescue past that. ~Amazing views, look around and take it all in. ~#13, huge, house sized boulder guarding the fairway. Hit over the left edge and forgetaboutit... Get a good layup, and run it onto this elevated green. ~#14, aim right. Right is a shorter carry to the fairway, and a better look at the green. ~#15, club selection. ~#18, must hit fairway. ~Water and bunkers everywhere. Overall, like I said, I can't wait to get back here. I live in NYC, so you can add the rental car to the $195 greens fees(Well worth every penny.) There's a call box on #9 to have the clubhouse send you food to the #10 tee. Free practice facility, so get there early. Huge gaps between tee times. Extremely nice staff. And quite possibly one of the country's perfect courses. Just an all around beautiful, challenging, rewarding day... read more

Great gem of a Pete Dye course, awesome layout, true New England characteristics and fun to play. With that said, for the $250+ that we paid for a weekend time, I'd argue that it is not a premium experience like you get at other courses where you pay more than $200. Essentially, you're paying for a country club or premier club experience, BUT getting muni treatment. First and foremost, the lack of a proper clubhouse and amenities in said clubhouse is a bit shocking. I've seen and been to better clubhouses at municipal course. To say that it's even a clubhouse is an overstatement, as there's essentially only a bar/small restaurant within a pro-shop or vice versa. Perhaps Mr. Wang ran out of money when he planned the course. At any rate, given how much one pays for the greens fee, you'd think there would be a higher-end feel to the accommodations. Second, the course routing can get a bit tricky, even if you have played the course before. Make sure to use the GPS to make sure you're routing properly. The last and most important factor that weighs on this negative review of the course is the attitudes and lack of professionalism of the employees at this club. From the bag drop attendant, cart attendants and the starter, they all have the worst attitudes and act like they can't be bothered to provide good service to paying customers. They need to do a better job of hiring individuals that have better attitudes and provide service with a smile, rather than being curmudgeons. Besides all this, a good time. read more

After hearing so many great things about this course over the years, I finally got to play on it in October of 2015. Yes, it was almost towards the end of the golf season so I expected the course to be somewhat NOT in its top shape and I would have been okay with it. However, I didn't anticipate it to be this bad. Of the 18 holes, more than half the greens were in "unputtable" conditions. (See below picture of one of the greens.) There was no point in trying to read the lies or the breaks because the greens were too bumpy that putts became too unpredictable. I think I deserve better greens than this when I pay $165 on a Thursday... On a good note, the staff at the course was polite and courteous and the course itself was very fun and challenging with beautiful, scenic holes. read more

Great course with challenging holes. Typical Pete Dye-abolical design. I played Paiute Wolf (another Pete design) in Vegas and Pound Ridge provided a more interesting experience with scattered rock formations throughout the course. The staff was accommodating and the hot dogs were excellent. Would play again. Certainly not a cheap experience but a premium one. read more

I think this is a very nice course for the 150 rate. The pro shop and staff were very nice and attentive. 4.5 hour round at 2pm on a Sunday was not bad. I played with a few higher handicap players and I think this course can really be a challenge for those who are a bit rusty since it's so narrow and green slanting can lead to some really hard hole locations. However, for a better player who enjoys thinking through strategy and shots this course is a lot of fun, fair and definitely has some holes that are birdiable. One suggestion-tee markers could be more clear. Since severs holes are close to another and tee markers are all similar colors (not usually black blue white), additional markings or other change in tee color system would be really helpful as I think we may have hit off the wrong tees a few times. read more

For 200+ dollars a round on the weekends. This course is the worst maintained course in the area. Layout of the course is ok.. considering the land they had to work with, there are a lot of tricked up holes and blind shots. I could live with that but there is no excuse for the condition of the course other than the owner and or management either doesn't care or doesn't play golf and doesn't understand. The tee boxes are in terrible shape. The greens are bumpy and have a lot of bare spots and the traps all need new sand in them There are much better places to play in the area, that aren't as expensive and are in much better condition. And the staff wonders why they always have openings.. save your money.. all you will be is frustrated. read more

This is one of the most beautiful golf course I have played in the past five years . However, after paying $220 and at a time when there was no one around I asked permission to put on the practice green with my three year old who is incredibly well behaved and was told it's against policy . The most visually stimulating golf course I've ever played. The course was/is in great shape. The greens roll at about a 9 or 10. Very helpful staff. While it has a "temporary" club house it still has all the amenities one could need. GPS on the carts. From the time you arrive till you depart it has the feel of a private club. I look forward to another round of golf there. It is a challenging course, but fun. 5 sets if tees allow all skill sets to play. read more

No complaints about the golf. The course is very challenging, well laid out and enjoyable for golfers. The staff I met were all very nice and accommodating, and a pleasure to speak with. However, management is where the good experience ends. Last fall, I had to pay the full rate for a golfer who couldn't show up at the last minute (while I didn't love that, I understood why). I was given a "credit", good for a tee time or in the pro shop, and was told it was good any time to be used. When I tried to use it, I was told my credit was expired and I'd have to speak to the manager Todd. When I got him on the phone the following day, he said there was nothing he could do because the bar code said it was expired. (It expired because it was only good for 6 months; I tried to use it 6 months and 3 days later) I'm not a retail expert, but any manager who claims he can't override a bar code to appease a customer is either inept or lying. I also found it funny that he thought the 6 months between October and March were golfable months, considering they were under snow for most of that time, telling me they had people there on January 2. I live in NY, we had a huge snow storm that day, no one golfed. I had been polite and calm up until now as I was told that he was a hot head (by his own employees) and I'd immediately be rebuffed if I came into the conversation with a head of steam. However, instead of trying to find a solution, he told me that they had plenty of golfers and didn't need my business. Considering they are competing with many other nice public courses in the tri-state area, especially for the golfers coming from NYC, I couldn't believe his attitude towards a paying, repeat customer. I was warned by STAFF MEMBERS while I was there that he was 'not a nice individual', and all I can say is they were right. (They used more colorful words that I can't write here). With Ferry Point now open, and lots of great courses within an hour of the city, there's no need for good NYC golfers to go to Pound Ridge if this is the customer service one could expect. When you're paying this much for golf (and food and drinks and getting there), you'd expect an attitude from "management" that is driven by the overriding goal of "I want golfers to come back". I'm not going to support this course as long as it's managed by this a-hole. I'm sure Pete Dye would love to see that this is the face of his course. It's too bad that such a nice course with good staff is being run by such a d-bag. read more

I played at pound right about once a year, and the condition seemed going downhill every year. 1. The obvious: it is way overpriced. 2. Course condition is okay but not great. 3. No real club house nor real driving range. Kind of a joke given the price they charge. 4. Service was inconsistent. Too expensive!! Course was in poor shape!! Very disappointed!! I was extremely fired up to play this course. The staff was also extremely rude and not very accommodating. The range is a grass range. I couldn't find a good spot to hit balls and warm up. Range was basically all dirt. The design of the course is tricky and totally unfair. I have played many Dye courses. One of his worst designs. Hit a few good shots that rolled off the fairway into the hazard. This course should be bulldozed!! read more

Typical Pete Dye golf course. The landing areas narrow as you get closer to the hole, there aren't many even lies, and there are hazards in the middle of the fairway at times. But the views are incredible. Just a stunning course visually. Lots of picturesque holes. But as I have come to expect from Pete Dye most of the visual stimuli were man-made. I didn't play the tips as the slope was a 150. I haven't seen a course with a rating like that in a long time. But it makes sense because you could hit the middle of a fairway and either be in a hazard or have an awkward lie. And everyone who has mentioned it is right, the driving range is a joke. It's short and they use limited flight golf balls. It's just sad really. The putting green is a little small too. But the chipping/bunker area was great. Overall one of the toughest and most beautiful courses I have played but not at all worth what they charge here. read more

I was really excited to play there as I live only minutes from the course. I really wanted to fall in love as I went there to see if I would join next year. Not too impressive. First, for $235.00 not a single bunker was raked, leaving golfers to have to hit out of mud as it rained the night before. Really? $235.00 for mud bunkers? Then, at the turn, $14.00 for a turkey club and the turkey was the cheapest of processed cold cut variety. I am, by no means, a frugal individual. Matter of fact, my wife is always reminding me how easy I am with money. But this was a real disappointment, and the cost was definitely a factor. Mr. Wong has his work cut out for him as the new Trump public course opens next Spring and offers more for less than half the cost. Hope he gets a clue. read more

This is a nice LOOKING course, but after playing a round, I would say that the overall condition is sub par, especially for a premium price. The greens are slow, and have ball marks and clearly nobody has instructed players that they should fix these. Sand traps were OK. Honestly, I expected better because it is a nice layout, but they don't have enough people here to manage and monitor golfers on the course. This is probably best for a corporate outing where most of the golfers don't play regularly but if you pay $200 for a round, you should expect better. read more

I'll start with the course itself, the layout is beautiful, and the holes are creative and challenging. The condition of the course has deteriorated every year in the three years that I have been playing there, as of this year (summer '19) the greens have become below average. Trump Ferry Point, the only course I play with similar rates, blows PR out of the water in terms of condition. My issue is with the GM, who seems not to understand there is a customer service element to his position. He has consistently demonstrated a pretentious and unaccommodating attitude. Too many examples to list. Given the greens fees of $240+ on weekends, the "elite" status of the course is well established, and the added pretentious attitude is unnecessary and obnoxious. I once tried to bring my wife to PR to ride in the cart and have a drink while I played 9 holes late on a summer weekday evening. The course was completely empty, so I assumed it would be a non-issue. My wife does not golf, and did not bring clubs, she was simply there to ride and enjoy a nice evening. I would never consider doing this on a busy day, but there were 3 cars in the parking lot when we arrived. Nonetheless, The GM refused to allow her to ride in the cart without paying the full greens fees (over $80 for nine holes on a week night). Not wanting to pay full greens fees for my wife to ride for 9 holes, I asked if we could order a drink at the bar and hit some balls at the driving range - nope, that is not allowed either. I asked if we would be allowed to use the range if I paid the $80 greens fee for myself, no dice. I would have had to pay $160 dollars to use the driving range if my wife was going to be there to watch. Because of the lack of options in the surrounding area, I overlooked this embarrassing exchange and continued to play PR for another year. However, my latest experience will be my last. I attempted to play as a single early on a weekday morning, once again, the parking lot was empty. I should not have been surprised, the GM told me there was "no way" he could let me out as a single. I told him I would happily wait it out until there was a clear opening, nope, he said he just couldn't do it as I would likely "catch other groups and press them." I explained I had been playing golf all my life, and knew better than to press or hit into a group if I caught them, to no avail. He paired me with a twosome, who were absolutely shocked they were forced to pair up given the course was EMPTY. At no point during our 9 holes did I see a group (in front of or behind us) within 3 holes. This was a complete joke, and I cannot think of a reason for the gm's actions. Oh, and you can't even buy a six pack on ice - two drinks per player - and you better believe they will count how many are in your group when you place a drink order. $240 a round should get you a nice atmosphere for a round of golf, but the gm has ruined one too many for me. I'll drive further and pay less going forward. read more

Not worth the $$$$. When you pay $250 for a round of golf, you expect a few things outside of the condition of the course. 1. This place serves food on paper plates, that doesn't scream luxury golf experience to me. 2. Driving range/practice facility is sub par. 3. Greens were nice, tee boxes are absolutely horrible. 4. The course doesn't allow you to take a bag with ice and beer on the course. Overall very subpar experience, if you are entertaining or just looking for a fun day of golf this is not the place to doit. read more

I cannot believe this course even garners an average 3 star review. Not only are the conditions of the course generally awful, but the staff and management of the place are so rude you feel like you are at the "Dick's last resort of golf." If this course did not benefit from Fairfield County overflow (there are very few public courses nearby and private clubs run $125k for initiation) they would have to shut down in a season or two. You will be sorely disappointed...I almost feel like leaving my cell phone # so I can better explain why you should avoid this dog track. Read all golf.com and other reviews, you truly have to work diligently to be rated this low. At Pound Ridge this past week day, the course is in great shape but at what price. First of all they don't tell you there are no cart person(s) out riding around selling beverages. They also lock the bathrooms on the course and of course there are no water stations available. But what they do have is a ranger that rides around breaking your chops about riding on the edge of the fairway, let alone on the fairway itself. I get it, a lot of carts on the course (one per rider) so it's cart path only but it would be more helpful if the guy riding around policing the grass would have a cooler with him to either sell water or hey how about providing free water, given how much they charge for a round! Like I said, loved the course but got fairly dehydrated out there and my game really suffered on the back nine (and yes u do not ride back thru the clubhouse at the turn) and so did the experience! It would have gone a long way towards golfer appreciation and loyalty if they made the simple gesture of providing water on the course, that's all. read more

First off I had high reviews for this course when I played last October and I took my wife for her Birthday and even with a gift certificate it was so outrageously expensive. To add insult to injury it was raining cats and dogs and they wouldn't honor or issue a rain check when every other public course would immediately issue a rain check in those types of conditions. The course itself could have been better enjoyed if I wasn't drenched by the 3rd hole even in good rain gear... Finally the facilities are a joke...the bar is non existent which is combined with the pro shop and for what your paying you are paying for an experience and all you got was an overpriced golf course with ridiculous rain check policies. Save your money and go to Wintonbury Hills for another Pete Dye course with better facilities and 2/3 less of the price read more

Course is actually pretty good considering the small amount of real estate and heavy rock formations Pete Dye had to work with but this review is directed to the owner Ken Wang - please do something about your golf staff! Either retrain them or replace them - they are the rudest people in the business with zero regard for customer experience or loyalty. Please note the food and beverage staff are always nice! I have played PRGC consistently since it opened and every single time I am there it never fails that one of the staff members, either the GM or the always grumpy starter or one of the golf staff say or do something condisending or rude. How is it possible they always rude? Start at the top with the GM Todd Leavenworth - he has zero interpersonal skills and casts a negative impression on the whole club with every customer interaction. The short guy in the pro shop has the personality of a spoiled school child who talks about you under his breath and runs to the principal when he does not get his way. Clearly he takes his interpersonal skills from Mr Leavenworth. As I said, the course is good and I will continue to play here but many who have reviewed the course on Yelp and other sites share the same views of the staff - they consistently make the guest experience at PRGC unpleasant!! read more

This is a championship course that offers a good challenge and a nice peaceful setting in the middle of the woods. Also, the restaurant inside the clubhouse is phenomenal. They serve an immaculate lunch as well as cocktail selection and take a lot of pride in doing so, which I appreciate. read more

I played Pound Ridge on November 27th. (and have played it a number of times over the years) I can't believe the reviews it received from some people complaining about the greens etc.? First this is without doubt one of the most beautiful courses in the North East. Second what Pete Dye did here can only be described as a master piece. (a work of art) The layout is as good as it gets! Very challenging but usually room off the tee. As you get to each hole your mouth opens and you say "I cant believe this". I don't know what people are talking about with greens. I played on a cool November day (Greens were slow) but rolled true and no real problems with what that picture shows above! If you are a serious golfer, and love a great layout you must play this course as soon as possible! I asked all my friends and family to make sure they gave me gift certificates from Pound Ridge during the Holiday season!! read more
