The best (IMO) and the most difficult of Westchester County's public golf courses. Also the most expensive.... Despite the lack of rain the course was in good shape and the greens top notch form. Lots of blind shots, challenging greens and a shot-makers paradise. The 19th hole offers a nice bar and small dining area, with surprisingly good food and well stocked liquor. We (me) had a tough round, then a drink and a bite. Definitely would play again - my playing partner agreed and he shot a 78 :( read more

Golf is challenging, it's a hilly difficult course but I enjoy it. It makes me think and use different clubs and strategies on certain holes. Nice putting and chipping green. Restaurant is great, especially when a live band is playing. Beautiful spot! read more

Worst Public Golf Course in Westchester County... I never write reviews but I believe this one is warranted. I play every public/county golf course in Westchester County every season. I played this course today and was as unenjoyable to play as it it was last year (I play golf every weekend from April to December in Westchester and Rockland County). I was not greeted by the starter upon my arrival. I left my clubs and backpack cooler at the designated area upon arrival and proceeded to use the restroom. The restroom was poorly maintained. It had sticky floors and did not have any hand soap to wash my hands. I then when back to my clubs and backpack and was immediately approached by an employee who stated that outside alcoholic beverages are not permitted at the course. I said what are you talking about and proceeded to open my backpack, to which he responded: "do you want to play this game. I know you have beer in your backpack" (he mentioned the brand which means he opened my backpack when I used the restroom and dug all the way to the bottom of the backpack. I am an attorney and this is not acceptable). He then went on to say "we are trying to run a business here". I understand this statement but I don't not understand his approach. I understand me showing up and placing my backpack in the cart and being asked to open the backpack, which has some beer in it, and being told "my apologies but we do not allow outside alcoholic beverages here" (only Westchester public course to enforce this rule). Please put them back in your car" (I bring my own beer because courses only offer domestic beer that I do not like). His approach was inappropriate. Now let's discuss the course. This course is challenging and the greens are consistent, which are the only positives (I shoot high 80s to low 90s). Otherwise, the course is poorly maintained and designed. I dodged golf balls from other holes throughout the round; more than any other course I play at. The only reason is that the holes are spaced too close together without proper barriers. Tee boxes were soggy, filled with divots or bare. The rough was unplayable so bring a lot of extra balls. I normally lose two to three balls during a round (I lost 14 playable golf balls today). The cart girl did not accept credit/debit cards (suspicious). The end of my round was not any better. I left our cart in the designated area, was not greeted by anyone, did not have my clubs cleaned off, was not able to drive the cart to my vehicle and the food offerings were mediocre at best (even overheard others complaining). This is one of the most expensive public golf courses in the area and did not provide anything to justify the price. I play golf to relax and unwind and this experience was an overall failure, especially for Father's Day (no special offerings today). read more

I read the reviews and was somewhat concerned about the course. Played it today and while it was wet I found the course very very enjoyable even though it was cart path only. It is very hilly. And it's a tough course even with a cart. Lots of hills to walk up and down. I thought the holes were fair. I liked the almost blind shots. We played the green tees a little over 6300. You need to hit straight shots but the fairways in my opinion weren't that narrow. Course could be in a little better shape and maintained better but it's April I met a friend from CT and I came up from the City and for $41.00 it's a bargain. I'd like to play it again when it's not wet Course had beautiful views of the mountains and surrounding area. If you like a challenge and exercise while playing this is your course. read more

Played there yesterday. We didn't exactly understand the price structure, residents vs non-residents and the pro came in and mimicked my question. So not very professional and he had a bad attitude. Not something I've ever encountered in 45 years of golf. The course? The most ridiculously designed course I've seen anywhere. Severely sloped fairways leaving even the most preciously placed shots in jeopardy of trouble. There are probably more balls on this property than in a Titliest factory. This course should not have been built. No wonder they had to lower the price since opening. The "cart path only" rule will leave you so far from your ball, having to walk down very sloped hills. You'll feel like you walked the course. Stay away! read more

You arrive at Hudson Hills and are greeted with a very nice view of the surrounding area, but things go downhill--literally and figuratively--from there. Mark Mungeam was evidently forced to squeeze a 7,000 yard golf course onto a very severe piece of property that might have been manipulated to accommodate an amusing and quirky 6,000 yard course. Instead, the result is an endless parade of mediocre holes interspersed with one of the worst sets of par fives in existence, with narrow fairways bordered by near-U.S. Open rough. The fact that the course is very well maintained is comically at odds with the awfulness of the design, and it's shocking that they take people's $115 more than once. Playing it is a joyless experience. Avoid with extreme prejudice. read more

I've only played this course once and didn't have to pay when I did, so bear that in mind. This course is nice, but difficult. Granted, I'm not the greatest golfer, but I can break 90 pretty easily. On this course, I shot over 100 and lost over 8 balls. Many of the holes have a "gimmicky" design making them interesting, but hard to play if you don't hit exactly where you need to hit. If you miss hit, your ball has a 80% chance of being lost. The speed of play was good, especially for a weekend; we never felt like we were waiting around. The carts have GPSs in them making it much easier to play the course, but, like I said, it's still a hard course. The greens fees are over $100, which is very expensive for a public course. I've been offered several times to play it again for free and was tempted to play again, but still declined. read more

I just played here for the first time today, the first day it opened. So I cannot really speak to how well the course is maintained. Although, it seems nobody disputes how well this course is maintained, especially compared to the other county courses. The layout can be quirky. It is probably not the course for somebody that will be bothered keeping the driver in the bag. Narrow holes, doglegs, and blind shots give you something to think about on every hole. I enjoy a course where I can hit 12 drivers. I also enjoy a course where I need to be strategic and pick my spots and hit my targets. This is very much the latter, and I found it very enjoyable. read more

Truly one of the better public courses I've played in a long time! We came here with a group of 20 for a golf outing com up and they were extremely effective at accommodating our needs. For $95 per person we were given green fees and a cart for 18 holes, Plus lunch with a beverage of your choice including beer at the turn and then a menu item of our choosing plus another beverage including beer at the end of our round. The food was edible but nothing I would go out of my way to praise. The good news is the beer was extremely cold and considering it was 95° outside, that provided a good respite throughout the day! As for the golf course, it was extremely well manicured, and very challenging. Most of the holes were very narrow with very little room for error and the holes that were wide open had a generous amount of hazards in the way. Most of the holes especially on the front nine provided great views of the Hudson Valley. Big beautiful trees and rolling hills and mountains in the distance provided an amazing backdrop for our round. The fairways are extremely well manicured and the greens provided to be the greatest challenge. Vast rolling and undulating surfaces Plus a rating of what I can only imagine to be 11 or greater made putting seem like you were rolling the ball on ice. All in all a fantastic golf course that I would certainly go back and play again. read more

I recently came and played a round here at the end of September (2nd time playing) and everything was maintained very well. From the city, the drive is about 40 minutes or so (early morning) and it is always nice to escape to the 'country.' Paying $110/round, I was expecting top notch facilities and experience. They do not have a driving range, so make sure to consider that for your first hole jitters. However, they do have a putting green where you are allowed to chip on (some courses are strict about this). With a relatively small club house but all the facilities you need, I thought this was all fair. It is also nice to have a golf cart with the distances mapped out if you don't have your own rangefinder. FYI, photo opp - on the tee box of 18. Overall, the course was maintained well, it was fairly difficult and also a good escape from the city but just a bit overpriced in my opinion for the area. Fore! read more

Hudson Hills is a wannabe country club despite that fact that it's a county course. The fees are higher than the other country courses; if that extra money pays for the kids who try to clean my clubs when I'm done playing, it would be better spent on course maintenance. Mohansic takes better care then Hudson Hills. In the summertime, we sometimes go for the $40 twilight including cart. it's a difficult course, with a particularly nasty hole (forget which) that has a downsloping fairway bisected by a wide swath of junk. Since I cannot drive long enough to go for it, I lay up. But the intimidating junk attracts my ball like a magnet and I rarely make it over. Since Hudson Hills is only a few minutes from my house, I wish it were more like Mohansic, or any of the other country courses. read more

I have played the course twice now and the first time I played I had no idea how to play some very tricky holes. So if you have not played the course, lower your expectations on your course and enjoying yourself. The second time I played the course I obviously knew what to do but still had a few tough holes because the penalty for a near miss is huge. Eg I landed my tee shot on the par 3 #3 on the edge of the green and it bounced down into the gunch and I ended up with a triple. 2 of the par 5s have landing areas that end at 200 yds but then you have 300 yds left up hill with hidden greens. Bring lots of balls and don't even dream of playing to your handicap. read more

Awful course, with cost being a factor. Course is goofy, with blind shots and a lot of holes where you have to lay up. Nobody replaces their marks on the greens, and tees were pretty beat up and some uneven. Definitely not worth $80. Wouldn't play here for $40. Hot summer day and no cart - or at least they didn't know what time the person was showing up. I played here 10-12 years ago and didn't like the course, but decided to give it a shot with clients since it was a half way point. NEVER AGAIN!!!! read more

This is the best of the courses owned by Westchester County. Its condition is a notch above the others (which are being gradually upgraded). Customer service is also a notch above. It is run by Billy Casper Golf, which emphasizes a professional atmosphere. Being a muny golfer, I must admit some of the country club touches (such as being ambushed by boys who ask if they can "wipe down" my clubs) annoy me, but other people like that stuff. The negative reviews here, while basically true, are a bit harsh. It is a challenging course. It requires that you learn how to play it, which will teach you something about course management, and how to hit off uneven lies. You will not play well your first few times at HH; tears and thrown clubs may follow. Three of the par 5s (2, 7 and 15) are very hard, but all the par 3s are relatively easy. The greens are usually consistent throughout the course. The County offers easier courses too. It would be great if nearby Mohansic, a great and traditional design, were kept at HH's level of maintenance. (It would also be nice if Mohansic's staff were professional or even a little welcoming, but that's another story ...) Tim G's review makes some good points, but I disagree with one: at the time he wrote it, all the local courses had brutal rough because of a rainy period. HH doesn't keep the rough very long when they can mow it. It is overpriced if you don't have a County Parks Pass, but there is a good twilight discount, and they are good about honoring discount cards such as the Calendar Card. read more

Played it many times since it opened--definitely the bet public course in Westchester. The rough has been shortened over the past couple years, so at least you can usually find your ball if you miss fairway off the tee. The 2nd hole is a great test, and par is a good start to your round. It's more expensive than the other county courses--that's because it's a better test of your game. read more

My husband was signed up to play golf with a wedding party. He used his credit cad for the fee. It poured rain and after waiting several hours he was offered a ride back to his hotel by one of the party. He never played. The charge came through on his card. I called Hudson Hills and spoke several times with Doug and Joe Rafferty. Each one gave me the run around and after many promises to call me back, they never did. I am still waiting for a credit. Our brunch on the Lookout Grill porch was much better than our earlier-in-the-week dinner at a top-rated East Hampton restaurant. Fish tacos with a lemony sauce and tortilla chips, green salad with balsamic vinaigrette and Spanish-style omelet with toast and potatoes were all delicious. Staff is friendly and welcoming. On a nice day, try the breezy, nice-view porch. We will be back. read more

The county has tried to make this a more upscale golf course. The greens are quite large and very professional. This is a difficult course. There are some scary tee shots here. If you are wild off the tee you could easily lose five or six golf balls. I have played there about 3 or 4 times and I'm a fan. There are a few holes that are a little weird, but overall it's a very good test of golf. You had better bring your A game. They have a nice large putting green but no driving range which is too bad. read more

Hudson Hills Golf Course is probably one of the worst designed golf courses that I ever played. The best part of the golf course is the arrival with some beautiful views. Everything goes downhill from there. The conditions of the course were horrendous. There were divot marks throughout the fairways and the tee boxes. The greens were in decent shape. Make sure that you bring extra balls with you because I guarantee that you will need them. I do not recommend the course. For a $100.00 day, I can think of many other courses to play in the area. read more
