Had a fantastic visit at the Potso Dog Park today with the hubs and my Frenchton, Nick. The park is separated into two sections: one for smaller dogs and another for larger dogs. We took Nick to the smaller area, so that's the only side I can speak for, but for his very first visit to a dog park, he had a blast! I love that the park is setup with a double gating system to try to avoid any potential escapees. So basically, you open the first gate to exit into a small pen area, then after making sure there are no loose runaways in there with you, next you open the final gate to exit to the parking lot (which is located conveniently right next to the park). Very smart and well thought out. All of the dog owners were extremely friendly and conscientious. I didn't notice any dogs doing their business where the owner wasn't following right behind them to bag it and throw it away. There are multiple water stations surrounding the enclosed play area where your pup can have a drink at his or her leisure, and plenty of water available for refills. Nick had so much fun running around and playing with his new found buddies (both canine and human), and even met another Frenchton just like him named Roxie which was super exciting. I think there might have been a Pug Facebook Group meetup or something today, because there were pugs galore! But they were super cute to watch. And there were absolutely no aggressive dogs in the play area that we had to contend with. Plus, as an added bonus, Nick was totally beat afterward and splatted for the rest of the afternoon, so we definitely got out all that pent-up puppy energy. Overall, 5 out of 5 experience and we will definitely be returning. read more

I just started bringing my pup here. It's nice in the sense that it's big and fenced in, and water is plentiful. I also like that there are a lot of sitting areas, some covered, some not, and less of the helicopter owners. I think it's really important to know that this is social hour for the dogs...let them play with each other without us interfering all the time. The only negative is that it seems like some owners still aren't picking up their dogs business even when potty bags are provided...come on peeps, be better. Aside from that, my dog has had nothing but a good time here and we will keep going back. read more

Size wise, this is one of the bigger dog parks in the greater Portland area. I've been to 5 different parks since moving up here about 3 weeks ago, and while Photos is the biggest it is by far not the best. Here are the positives: - size - parking - nice, well behaved dogs - good mix of small, medium, and large dogs - some "agility" obstacles there for you to train your dogs to use - covered seating area (great for when it rains, which has been virtually every day for the last 2 weeks) - walking area around the perimeter Negatives: - pretty bad landscaping - the grass is pretty high, such that my small dogs have to sort of hop around instead of walking - irrigation isn't great either - the small dog "area" is laughably small, but so has been this area in the other parks here in Portland Neutral: - an "acceptable" amount of dog poop not being picked up by owners - the people that I've met so far - obviously not all of the dogs are going to get along with each other, so as a dog owner, I am bestowing quite a bit of trust in other dogs' owners. Overall, I'd recommend this park if you have active bigger dogs and like to get in a little bit of exercise for yourself. Wear your "dirty" shoes because they'll likely get muddy. read more

This is a nice dog park. Been here too many times to count. We always stay at least 2-3 hours each time. First, you can get ticketed. Second, a small dog was snatched by a coyote at 4pm a couple years back. I do not think there is a 'den' nearby right now, but it is a natural area and could again. Just be responsible. The parking lot is not designed to see dogs running under car tires. Trash cans are inside the small dog section, there is a picnic table, plastic chairs, a covered area to sit when it rains. After the time changes in Nov 2010 it is only open on weekends. As of 13 March 2011 the dog park should be open again during the evenings? Water turned off in winter due to freezing. People bring their own water during winter. The two single gates I saw (one in little section to big section, one in big section to road) have some good gaps in them. However, they are somewhat modified to keep from escapees doing their thing. I am starting to think I should bring some "swing set chain" for dog parks that need areas "laced up". I already bring a bunch of other stuff to fix stuff...and this might be another thing, at least for my home base parks that I go back to. My wish for this dog park? When dog fights break out that dog owners keep their voices down while they work through it (raised voices is usually coming from bystanders, not by the owners of the dogs who are in the middle of a fight). Raised voices only work against the situation by riling up the dogs. That tends to happen at some dog parks....but, tell them to keep it down so they can work it out. This is not my absolute favorite dog park, but it covers most all the things I absolutely require for my dog. P.S. I moved out of the area in October 2011. I would say there are many reasons this park is not a place I will return to. While I understand there are (aggressive) dogs out there we had a Karen let us know we needed to leave today. She stated our dog was playing too rough and we would need to leave. Then implied that our dog was going to get rough with her dog while they play together. People need to mind there own business we talked to the person who had the dog in question and she was not worried. Just another bystander speaking out for someone they don't know. read more

Good size, lots of bags for poop, generally clean, we left when a few aggressive dogs showed up but that could be our bad luck.

We did love this park. Lots of space but also fenced in. There is a smaller fenced park for smaller dogs too. There are several tented areas for shelter and seating. For the most part everybody who goes there is friendly and keeps an eye on their dogs when they poo or get a little chippy. Unfortunately a few bad apples can ruin it. Our dog was absolutely savaged by another dog and required stitches in her leg. The whole time the owners watched indifferently while my wife tried to separate them while screaming, "Come get your dog!!! Control your dog!!" After weeks in a cone while we waited for her stitches to heal we tried again and again upon entering our dog and my wife found themselves surrounded by dogs showing very serious signs of aggression with the other owners talking or not paying attention. Again our dog was attacked. Luckily this time my wife got our dog separated and left before any harm could come to our dog but two strikes is all you get. We now take our dog to a different park, and she has not had an incident. read more

Potso Dog Park is broken into two sections a small and all dog section. The small dog section is ruffly quarter of the size of the all dog section but then the small dogs are about a quarter of the size of the big dogs, so it seems fair. The water is on the big dog section so if the small dogs need a drink the owners will have to go to the all dog section to get the little guys a drink. One thing I do like is the covered bench area. Nice way to get out of the rain. The sun on the other hand is another issue, but that is only an issue if the sun comes out behind the clouds. There is plenty of parking right next to the dog park. The only thing to keep in mind is the fence above 3 feet is large enough to allow balls to pass right though so if you have a good arm you maybe going outside to get the ball quite often. The ball went out of the park 4 times because of bad bounces but I quickly learned to lighten up on the throw. One other thing to watch out for is the piles of dog shit along the fence line. Not all dog owners are created equal so some of them don't pickup after their dog. Just saying, so watch your step in the tall grass. Over all the park is okay, passes all the dog park requirements of good fencing, double gates, water for the dogs, and plenty of parking. read more

I love this dog park, I just wish I still lived closer. Most of the dogs there are friendly along with the people, but it can seem kinda high school clicky at times. The two reasons I didn't give it 5 stars is because the balls are always mowed over, and there is this woman with 2 LARGE hairy dogs that uses the dog park as her personal grooming area and doesn't pick up any of the HUGE clumps of hair. They are everywhere! Besides those two small things, this place is great. There is always a good amount of dogs there! Enjoy! read more

Our first time Sunday morning visit to the small dog section - with my 8-pound dog. Not sure if we will be back. Nice area, but when we stood at the fence to see whether the group of dogs was a good and friendly mix for mine, I was told that because I was standing there, her (3) dogs become agitated - they were barking aggressively. Even at that, we did cautiously enter for a few minutes. The dogs seemed fine until mine went near the owner sitting area, then the same dogs started barking aggressively again. There were also larger dogs that came in - people knew each other - the bigger dogs seemed more friendly than the person that 'greeted' me. The Hazeldale Park on Farmington Rd is much more person & dog friendly! read more

Large open green space for medium and large dogs. Separate smaller, but decent sized space for small dogs. Shelter and benches. Much less crowed then Ash dog park up the street. Water and poop bags on site. I would say only drawback would be major mud at entrance after heavy rains, simply hard to avoid, but great park on nicer days! read more

I like the small dog section of this park. I have a shiba inu and she's medium sized and that area is nice enough but there aren't many smaller dogs who want to play. Her best friend is a big dog and they get along great. She gets bored and wants to play and run with the larger dogs but she's too sweet! The big dog section is the problem and it's not the dogs, it's the owners. So many huge dogs have charged her and shown aggression and the asshole owners just stand there with a stupid look or ignore it. They don't do anything about it! They just sit there and get angry at me and my dog!!!! Are you serious? What is happening in our society where no one wants to take any personal responsibility for anything anymore. Control your dog or don't own one! We are allowed to enjoy the park too you jerks. read more

This park would be great for me and my puppy, except that it is really muddy after it's raining.. My dog slipped in some mud and injured his paw, just because there are so many holes and dips... I am wondering if there is a way for us to volunteer and make it better, get a good drainage system, even it out, put some more areas with rocks, so the water doesn't collect.. then it would be awesome. read more

I had to take away a couple of stars. At first I thought it was nice that everybody in the little-dog park knew each other, but some of the regulars started acting more like owners than visitors, and the vibe went from friendly to bossy. Now I go to the big-dog park or to Gabriel. read more

Potso Dog Park has small and large dog sections. Each have covered picnic tables and resin chairs for humans to relax on. It is double-gated and the fencing is quite secure. As in most busy dog parks, the grass is worn to dirt where the people tend to hang out, but around the inside perimeter of the fence, cedar chips define the area. I've noticed that in the large dog section people come, without dogs, just to walk the cedar path. I haven't seen a coyote yet, but a pair of hawks like to scope out the small dog side occasionally. That tends to make small dog owners leave. Another plus for Potso is that parking is right beside the park. Since it is not sensible to bring a purse or backpack into the park, you can leave it safely in your vehicle and keep an eye on it. read more

This is a wonderful park for small dogs. It is grassy and well maintained with fresh water, owners that clean up after their dogs and chairs in the shade as well as room for a blanket on the grass. Plenty of friendly regulars with their welcoming committee. Don't be turned off by the barking those are just squeals of delight and the welcoming calls to new playmates. It all dies down once the check you out......Potso is one of the top small dog parks in Portland. read more

This used to be a decent dog park. When I came today there was a mess of chairs everywhere. In the small dog section is a area where owners can sit under a roof. This is a nice park. We go there often. There was a man there a few weeks back with dog treats inside the large park and thought it was ok to feed my dogs without permission. I sternly told him, "Don't feed my dogs!" He said, "What?" I said, "DON'T FEED MY DOGS!" Hey! It's not ok! (He seemed offended!) What is wrong with this guy? He is lucky I didn't whip out my inner parent and whoop the stupidity out of him! (No apology either.) Let's keep all the dogs (and people) safe, leave the treats at home. read more
