Vegan Big Breakfast: Mushrooms, tomato, spinach, beans, vegan sausage, toast.

This is a good spot to catch breakfast in the Octagon. This was the first time I've had a vegan cooked breakfast at a restaurant. It was pretty good. I'd visit again.

Delicious combo of food between the pesto, brie cheese and vegetables. I also loved the atmosphere of the place- it was very cute and comfortable. I will definitely be going back!

This cute two-story cafe has a lot to offer not just for the tummy but for the eyes and body, too. The lower level seating offers cozy leather chairs for lounging in an intimate setting, the counter level has tall top tables for a quick coffee break and the second story loft is a brighter, casual dining experience. Though the cafe counter is small, they have a lot to offer. They have an extensive breakfast menu (served all day on weekends and until 2pm on weekdays) that ranges from muesli and banana loaves to eggs benedict and crepes. Missed the breakfast menu? Never fear, lunch is just as appetizing. They have a whole range of options for the pickiest of people including vegetarian options (like the risotto or the fritters). I had the Toasted Ciabatta Sandwich which allows you to choose 3/6 options: sundried tomato, chorizo, ham off the bone, swiss cheese, sheep cheese and caramalized onions. I tried the sundried tomato, ham off the bone and swiss cheese which was delicious! There are also soups and salads for the smaller appetites. Thirsty for more than coffee? Try one of their selections of wines or beers. Under 21? Try their cold sodas; I prefer the ginger beer.

For the gluten free people there's a lot on offer and generally at no extra cost which was nice to see. Small cabinet of freshly baked goods on offer. Friendly staff and efficient service.

On my penultimate day in New Zealand before heading back to Seattle, I wanted to have some lamb. I…read moresearched high and low on yelp, tripadvisor, and google and found 3 restaurants with potential. The first was out of business, the second offered a hot stone, so you can cook your own lamb (no thanks, I'm out to eat, please have the trained chef cook my food) and Lone Star. Knowing its Texas influence, I was worried that my vegetarian wife would be left eating salad. Nope, there were four vegetarian "mains" and none were devoid of nutrients (aka pasta and veggies). I chose Lone Star. We were seated quickly by an upbeat host and asked to sit in the corner table, to which he obliged. Our server was friendly and down to earth and we got mushrooms and a salad for a starter and the mushrooms were delish! The salad also hit the spot. For mains, I got the lamb shoulder with mashed taters and asparagus, peas and spinach mixed together. It was aesthetically pleasing and I had the runner load up my potatoes with fresh cracked pepper. My wife's burger was HUGE and the chips (fries) were plentiful. We had 2 large Diet Cokes with lotsa ice and a pitcher of water, not a little carafe that I can drink in 3 gulps. The desserts looked great, including Hokey Pokey ice cream, but we passed. Our bill was $88 NZD ($59 USD). Well worth it. I met the manager after and he was a pleasure and I could tell he was taking care of the business.
