It's been over two years since my first review and since we literally live down the street, I decided to give it another try. I placed the order over the phone and talked to someone who was nice. I went to pick it up and the bartender helped me out. He was very congenial and helpful. What I want to talk about though, was our food order. We got the Popper Burger and a regular Cheeseburger, both with fries. We also got an order of the fried okra (appetizer menu). The okra was perfect. Nice and crispy and hot right out of the fryer. The burgers were also very good. I commented to my wife several times that my cheeseburger was VERY good. I also enjoyed the fries. She also really liked her Popper burger. So much so that she ate all of it, which is rare for her to finish an entire entree. So anyway, maybe we will give another dine-in try soon.

I also thought the older gentleman was kind too, he let me have a little bit of his plants, but seriously, man, get some upgrades. The price is reasonable. This Abilene-based shop had two of the nicest guys - a father-son duo - working the front when I was there (11/21/2023). The dad pointed out the mural on the wall outside before I walked inside. Gave me some insight about the local artist who painted it. Inside you'll find mostly 33s, but there's more... to 45s to CDs to VHSs and tapes, posters, speakers, record players, memorabilia... Ya know, I didn't see much blues. That was the only pitfall for me. I was stoked when the dad, a former schoolteacher, mentioned the NEW Billy Idol Christmas record I snatched was really good. "He's a real crooner on this one..." And that's why I love record shops. Check out their Black Friday sale... I'm missing out some really good deals, but that's life.

They even took time to answer our questions about the area since we're a military family relocating from Hawai'i. Their hospitality was excellent. The only downside was the housekeeping. During our 13-day stay, our room was only serviced about five times. A couple of those days we asked for no service because our toddler was napping, but other days it was missed even after we were told someone was assigned to our room. We often had to bring our own towels down for replacements and take out our trash ourselves. With six people in the room, that made things a little stressful. That said, a couple of the housekeepers did a wonderful job--especially one military spouse who left the room spotless and the one who serviced our room on 3/5 who took the time to change our bedding, vacuum our carpet and mop our tiled floors. The hotel itself is nice, common areas are really clean and the front desk staff truly made the stay pleasant. I would stay again, but for longer stays I'd just be prepared for inconsistent housekeeping.
