Let me start by saying my husband said the doctor and the nurses were great. THEY were not the issue. They are actually the reason this review is 2 stars instead of one.
Moving into the issues, and boy are there a lot. Consultation was in December 2020, procedure scheduled for January. In January both of our kids got Covid (They were fine, husband and I never got it.) so we had to quarantine. Procedure rescheduled for February. We show up for the appointment in February and they ask for his negative COVID test. They NEVER told us we needed that. However, we had our negative tests from January. They wouldn't take those because they said it had to be within the last week. (Which is kind of dumb. Say we got the test on Saturday and it was negative, we feel fine and go to the procedure, then the next day start feeling bad and find out it's covid. We were contagious while there, so why bother?) Regardless, they never told us anything and didn't seem to have a clear policy in place. Whatever. We reschedule for March.
Come March he gets the test on Tuesday and his procedure is on Thursday. He got the rapid test which was negative, but the place also sent it off to get tested from Labcorp. Potomac Urology called Wednesday confirming his appointment. He confirmed and then they asked for him to fax or email his results. He told them he was at work and the results are home so he can't but he can bring it to the appointment like we were told. That's not good enough and they want him to email it when he gets home so they have it in the morning before he gets there. Once again, changing their "rules" or "policy". I call them and verify that they WILL take that test since it says negative, but they sent it off, right? They just say as long as it wasn't the blood test they will accept it. They called the place where he got tested and they faxed the results to them.
Thursday morning we got the negative Labcorp results so just to be safe I emailed it to them. They call him Thursday to confirm again. He says "yes, I will be there." Then they asked if he called our insurance to see what we will have to pay. What? Since when do we have to do that. He said no, he will be getting it done regardless so it's fine. Then they ask if he wants to pay over the phone. Again, why? He will literally be there IN PERSON in a few hours. Then they asked if he was on his way. He said no because his appointment is at 3 and it was only like, 11am.
We get there and they ask for his negative test. He tells them that 1. they got it faxed directly to them Wednesday, and also that I emailed them that morning. They couldn't find it so I had to resend it. They still couldn't find it. Apparently it went to spam. Now I thought spam was the first place you look when someone says the emailed you and you don't have it. .. but apparently not. Moving on they then tell him to pay $500. He asked me if that sounded right and I told him it was around that, yes, but usually we pay the COPAY, then they bill the insurance, and then we pay the remainder. They said there was no copay and the $500 is an "estimate". Never in my life have we paid an ESTIMATE for a doctor, and not the actual bill. Apparently this is how they do it.
Then he waits 20 minutes for the doctor (which is irritating, but not uncommon for doctors offices so that's fine) and they start. During the procedure they ask if he picked up the antibiotic and pain pills. We knew NOTHING about that. Apparently they sent it to our pharmacy in December but neglected to tell us. They said they would resend it. I call the pharmacy about an hour later and they received the antibiotic but nothing for the pain pills. They did see it was ordered in December and never picked up so they filled it, but apparently in resending things, they neglected to resend that.
Basically, the doctors and nurses are good, but the office staff seems completely and totally incompetent. Not to mention they are rather rude on the phone. I think I spoke to one nice person the whole time.
TL/DR: Doctors and nurses are fine. Front office staff is incompetent and rude. read more
