I love shopping here, because although the clothing selection is small, there are usually some really fun items for walking, running, and other sports. I'm particularly writing a review today, though, for a different reason. I stopped by to window shop while I happened to be nursing a terrible blister acquired while hiking. When I asked the staff there if they had any products that would help, they fixed me up with a combination of a small gel pad and an abrasion prevention tape, that made it possible for me to hike again immediately without any discomfort. Their advice on usage was very helpful as well. read more

Anna from This store should get beyond 5 stars for her pleasantness during my visit. It was my first time shopping here and I went in after browsing through some running forums for running shoes. She did a quick analysis and offered me choices for my shoes. I had Hoka one one on my mind but ended up getting NB1080 on her advice. I took up running during COVID and have enjoyed it since. I always stuck with my trusty Nike Pegasus, a good shoe for sure. I finally got around to going to Potomac River Running to get fitted and look at some different shoe options. I ended up going to the Leesburg store and the experience could not have been better. Yosselyn welcomed me to the store and took me through the complete fitting process. The process is very thorough, measuring all aspects of your foot, strike pattern and even taking a short video of a run on the in-store treadmill to look at a slow motion of my running gait. Based on the results Yosselyn proceeded to show me no less than 7 different shoe options, encouraging me to take a run outside or on the treadmill to get a feel for the shoe. After numerous runs on the treadmill I landed on the Brooks Ghost 15. Yosselyn was incredibly knowledgeable and thorough, and there was never any pressure to buy shoes there, she was completely focused on finding the right shoe for me. "The shoes will talk to you" was her line, and she was right. I did end up buying the Brooks there, how could I not after such a great experience, and the price was the same as everywhere else. VERY knowledgeable staff. Impressive gait analysis -- better than any other running place I've been to. Really good return policy, too.

This is well worth the trip. Their fitting process is incredibly detailed. You step on an electronic sensor and you see a color display of where your stance puts pressure on your feet. Next, you put on a test pair of shoes that you wear on a treadmill while a video camera shows you how you walk and run. They look at your ankles and foot direction. When complete, they bring out several pair of shoes from several different Manufacturers. I found out for the past several years, I have been wearing shoes too wide and too short. There was a different feel between manufacturers. The shoes I bought have been the best feeling shoes I have ever had. I will definitely return for my next pair! read more

The staff in the PR stores are wonderful. They have always taken the time to more than fully answer my questions no matter what stage my running was at. I am by no means a pro but when I first went there I had yet to run a 5K and now I am training for my 3rd marathon. With a variety of other races in between. They support and run a number of races in multiple communities which is great because they are very involved with where their customers are training and racing. They hav a variety of training programs for all levels and they also offer weekly free fun runs which I have found to be very helpful. I have always trained alone and the fun runs have been a great way for me to branch out and meet other runners and to motivate myself to push harder in my training. All in all Potomac River has it all. Good products, good staff, good community involvement and all while making it fun. What more could you ask for? read more

A terrific place that I was sent to after ankle surgery. Doctor recommended them and they have worked with me getting shoes that help with my rehab. They keep their files and were able to help me order new shoes after a couple of years had gone by when I thought I could do better elsewhere....well I AM BACK and will pay the price!!!! They also did not have my shoe in stock when I needed it but they bent over backwards to get it before I left town. VERY VERY helpful and the staff certainly knows what they are talking about. I would highly recommend them to anyone with an interest in doing "right" by your running/workout shoes. My daughter, not the athlete, was trying to train for a half marathon in less expensive shoes. Kept getting shin splints and injuries that hindered her preparation. One trip to Potomac River Running where the analyzed her feet, etc and we came out with new shoes...She is now well on her way to running that half marathon and says she LOVES to run. Running in her new shoes is like running on a cloud......... It doesn't get any better than that. A MUST if you are serious. read more

I visited for the first time yesterday based on the reccommendation of a friend. I am a fairly new runner (6 months) and am getting ready to run my first 5k. I wanted someone with experience to help me chose the best shoe. When I arrived, there were many customers being helped and 2 employees on the floor. I had to wait for everyone to clear out before I was helped, but I decided that it was worth the wait. I was able to do a gait test on the treadmilll and try several shoes before selecting the best pair. They also helped me realize that I had been wearing the wrong size shoe. Both employees were friendly and helpful. I now know what to look for to know when it's time to invest in another pair. I'll definitely return then for my next pair. read more

Horrible Management. I have been going to this store for years. I was going out of town and ordered the shoe I always purchased from another store. The shoe came in one week earlier than what I was told. When I called to see if the shoe had arrived I was informed they sold it to another customer. Now they tell me the shoe is not available. They should have contacted me before they sold it. I will never return to this store. I have purposely been loyal to the Leesburg Potomac River Running store but the loyalty was not returned to me - the customer. I do not recommend this store to anyone. read more

Guess I am the lone wolf with regards to exceptional staff. The woman I started working with (long strawberry blonde hair) started out friendly but I was directing her to two types of shoes...one version of saucony I currently wear and a newer model. She measured my feet, brought out both styles and let me walk around. I was all set to purchase when I asked about a mi,Italy discount. Her response, "are you active duty?" I replied no but my husband was retired. Her disrespectful retort, " well if we gave discounts to retired military, we would be giving discounts to everyone!" WOW! My husband served for 20 years, 11 months and 3 days and you have the audacity to make such a flipent comment. As soon as I told her I wanted to check with my doctor and wasn't buying the shoe, she turned ice cold. Guess you not only loss your commission but our business. I will NEVER step foot inside your store. read more

When I entered the store at 11 a.m. there were two ladies working with three customers (some were trying shoes on and some using the treadmill). Both store attendants saw me; one of them even commented on my kindergartner's running shoes. So I waited for about 15-20 minutes (you can imagine how it is like with a young child) while they were (fairly) finishing with their customers who were ahead of me. While one of the ladies was finishing up with a customer (and I was sure that I'm next) , another customer came in and stood right behind the customer who was about to leave. So guess what? This newly arrived customer was attended with no recognition of this lady (me) with a child who walked back and forth in front of the cashier for the last 15-20 minutes. Mind you that each customer takes a lot of time while they select and try on the shoes, have tests done, etc. (Or maybe they thought that I was just a curious walk-in who just enjoys hanging out/strolling at a store for 20 minute in front of the cashier for the entertainment...always trying to see the other side perspective!) I guess, I should be more understanding to this un-professionalism (to say the least) because c'mon they had so many customers at the moment (1 just started being in process and 2 waiting) for two working ladies in a small open space. (By the way, if you decide to choose this store, no matter what, "glue" yourself to the cashier even if previous customers need space to check out first after they finished trying on their shoes) - do not leave the spot right in front!!!!) lol Needless to say I got really annoyed by this and had to vent right now. I left the store without saying a word because my child's patience was wearing off as well. And no, I am Not going back to this particular store. Out of principle - I support businesses that treat me fairly and EQUALLY on the same reasonable principle - first come, first serve basis. There are other options in the area (simply google running stores in Leesburg or simply go to Dick's - that's where I ended up going and had a great experience: treadmill test and have got great pair of Asics running shoes for my running style + a bonus of the guy letting me use the expired old coupon for $20off that I found in my coupon wallet). It seems the Potomac Running customer service is based on as long as we have customers, we have to do the same job anyway; who cares about each individual customer. With all the marketing efforts to attract customers for businesses nowadays to ensure profit, please, Treat your Customers Right who are right there ready to spend reasonable amount of money at your store! read more

Really good customer service. The workers were really able to help me find exactly what I was looking for for several different kinds of shoes. Sometimes people at stores like this will act like it's a burden to help but these people were very accommodating. A little pricey but that is not uncommon of this kind of store. Great customer service! Fairly good selection of shoes -- my favorites aren't made any longer, but they were able to help me find a pair that should work. Excellent for people who say that they will never be able to run due to shin splints or knee problems. That was my mantra 4 years ago, but having knowledgeable people analyze my gait and get me into the right shoes now has me running half-marathons. read more

Currently training for my first half marathon. The staff was so helpful! They fitted me and helped me select a shoe that bested fitted my type of running after identifying my running style on a treadmill. Being the matriarch of a family of runners, I am ever thankful to have Potomac River Running right here in Leesburg--no more hikes to Reston during XC and track season. I love that every time I walk into the store with my family, we are always greeted by someone ready to help us find what we need. Today it was a pair of new running shoes for my 15-year-old rising sophomore--and we had two knowledgeable staff members give us their utmost attention, scanning my son's feet, analyzing his gait on the treadmill, and then hand-selecting three different shoes that best met his running style and needs. Store was recommended by my doctor. The staff was very helpful in checking my gait and shoe size (haven't had any other store do that in years) and found I've been buying a half size too small. Showed me a number of shoes designed to help with my problem with hammertoes. Found the most comfortable shoes (Hoka) for my condition and no pressure to buy. I also appreciated that since I am a novice runner, she didn't try to sell me the most expensive sneaker in the store.. Hubby and I visited this store on Saturday and had a great experience, Helen was knowledgable and she listened to my situation and was able to match me with the right shoe the "Mizuno Wave Rider", I've never owned a pair but I bought my first one and I am pleased. I also purchased these Nike tights and I love them. She then helped my hubby and was able to also find the perfect fit for him. The other 2 employees that were there on Saturday were also nice. Beware. Poor business practices. Not very friendly help. Getting shoes for 2 highschool cross country runners. Spent over $200. Asked if they extended a discount to the school runners (as has been our experience in prior years). Said, "no we don't do that anymore". A few days later my student runners come home from practice with 10% off coupons for this place. Call them up and ask them to retro the discount since we specifically asked if they were giving the discount this year. The answer was "no". Who ever owns this place should seriously counsel this store's manager. We won't be back. read more
