Dr. Potente is the greatest! I've visited him three times. And every time he's been amazing. If you have any issues with dental procedures, he will make you comfortable and make it an easy experience. read more

I came here for a second opinion regarding my wife's dental situation. From the moment we walked in, the front desk staff was incredibly kind and compassionate. Even though we were not existing patients, they made the effort to find us a same-day appointment with Dr. Potente. Our previous dentist had just completed a filling and then recommended a root canal, insisting on additional costly 3D imaging. In contrast, Dr. Potente took our concerns seriously and treated us with the care and attention of a family member. Without any unnecessary procedures, he was able to accurately diagnose the issue--and confirmed that a root canal was not needed. Dr. Potente was honest, transparent, and clearly highly experienced, especially in root canals --something that gave us a lot of confidence in making the next decision. What stood out even more was that he personally followed up with us after the appointment to check on how we were doing and whether we needed further care. I truly wish more dentists practiced with the same integrity and compassion. Dr. Potente doesn't treat patients like just another case or source of income. He's wise, down-to-earth, and, as we found out, also teaches at universities, which says a lot about his expertise. From his warm and genuine staff to his own exceptional care, I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Potente to anyone in need of an honest and thorough dental diagnosis. read more

I had the privilege of meeting dr Potente. I had a terrible tooth ache due to needing a root canal. He took care of the pain right away for good. At the end my tooth was un salvageable. His way of treating his patients is remarkable. He put me at ease since I'm a very nervous person. He's the kind of person you're glad you met. I hope I won't need him any time soon, but if I have future tooth problems he's the right person to go to. Thanks doctor Potente. read more

I received two root canals when I was 9 years old from Dr. Potente and I am now 31 years old and have had no problems in the past 22 years. He was an awesome doctor and I had a great experience. He was kind and explained everything to me and really took his time and care. Someone asked me about my root canals which brought it up in my mind and I thought I should write a review as an appreciative adult! Thanks Doc! If you have a child that busts up their teeth and needs some fixin' I would say he's the doctor to go see! read more

I was recommended by a friend who had a positive experience with Dr. Potente. Booked an appt by phone and explained my insurance does not cover root canal retreatments and that I'd be paying out of pocket. I was told there was a consult with X-rays and I could get a quote with no charge and was given the option to be treated that day or schedule out the treatment. Morning of the appt: Paid $7 for parking. I arrived about 5 minutes early for my 8am appt and waited in the hallway. A medical assistant rushed by me to go through a side door and later unlocked the main door. I waited a couple minutes and went in. She apologized saying she didn't know I had an appt with them. I assured her it was fine because I was early. Good start. I filled out my paperwork and saw that it said payment was due at time of service. I handed in the forms (which are entirely too small to write on) and she confirmed with me it was going to be done without insurance. I said yes, told her I have state insurance and that they don't pay for retreatments. I began to ask if there were financing options, and her tone quickly changed and said, "no, we aren't a regular office. Most people who come are here for one treatment." I said, "ok I can't be here," then I began to collect my things on the chair and asked if I could get a quote for the treatment. I was in pain and hoping for some progress. Looking down at the desk she said, "consults are $85," and I said, "I was told they were free." She snapped at me and looked at me like I was a Martian and said, "who said that?" as if I was lying to her. I said "when I booked on the phone..." and she interrupted me to say something so I said, "ok, I don't want to argue." It was apparent we were not going to have clear communication and I was not going to give them any business even though I could've paid for the consult. As I was gathering my items I told her I drove from Chula Vista to be there at 8am. She got snarky and said, "as I said..." and I responded, "it's fine, I'm leaving," If I misunderstood the consult fee, I can own that. The initial phone call was wonderful, yet I should've asked about financing options or payment agreements. I recommend letting patients know the amount is due at the time of service if the patient made staff aware they were paying out of pocket. I assumed they offered options like most dental offices, so I'll own that, too. I don't appreciate the lack of kindness, especially at a dental office which can already create nervousness. Staff member was extremely rude and defensive, and left no room for apologizing professionally for any mix-up/miscommunication to leave on a good note. Never even saw the dentist and I wouldn't recommend them based on that brief encounter with his staff. Maybe they are nicer to people who don't have state insurance and ask about finance options. If you can pay in full that day or have insurance, maybe you'll be treated differently. read more

Dr Potente is absolutely THE BEST and I will Always be very thankful to him. Please if you are reading this, just know that you are in really good hands with Dr Potente. Dr Potente took his time to help me out with this tooth issue that I had after this lady dentist (who is located in a different dental office) worked on it and my tooth never healed properly so I was told by other dentists that I might need a root canal and I was freaking out because it was only a small cavity that wasn't done properly . So I was Refered to Dr Potente to get his opinion if I needed a root canal or not. So I went into his office and I was greeted by his wonderful assistant who took me in right away for X Rays , she was so sweet and lovely. Then Dr Potente came in looked at my X Rays and told me that I do Not need a root canal, and that I only need to get the filling re-done. He showed me the X rays and explained to me everything that's going on and did a detailed check up on my tooth, that's when I knew that this Dr truly Cares .He was the sweetest, so comforting and he had little sense of humor as well that made me smile after all the stress I had from this one tooth You guys have no idea how comforting and down to earth he was, he truly is one of a kind . I hope I will never need a root Canal but if I ever needed one, I know where to go . Thank you Dr Potente read more

Dr. Eric performed my root canal procedure yesterday. What a total professional!! He was so very courteous even to his assistants throughout the procedure. I am definitely a nervous dental patient. He explained what he was doing at every step of the way. I especially appreciated his care for a pain free procedure. He even called to check in today to be sure I was doing ok. I had a totally opposite experience with a regular dentist years ago. I totally appreciated dr Eric and will ask for him for any future root canals. Thank you Dr Eric read more

My DDS- Dr. Kretz (my DDS of 20 + years- and who I completely trust) sent me to Dr. Potente for a what we thought would be a re-treat. My tooth pain was caused by a different reason. Dr. Potente got to the bottom of it and both him and his assistant made me feel less nervous and very comfortable. The procedure that was a bit invasive and took some time was pain free and he was very gentle and communicative. I was impressed and put at ease w his bed side manner and his detail. Was really dreading this appointment. Turned out so much better than expected. read more

Summary: Rude and condescending receptionist staff and an unprofessional endodontist. I was referred to Anthony through my dentist the same day. I told Dr Potente that I was still numbed up from the procedure and asked if I should wait. They said no and took some x-rays. Then he did some tests to see if I needed a root canal. He determined I did not need a root canal which was the wrong diagnosis. Another specialist later clearly determined I did in fact need a root canal and got the work done. I called Dr Potente's office a month later seeing I received a bill. I first talked to the receptionist and inquired why my insurance covered nothing. The receptionist put me on the phone with Anthony not telling me that I would be talking to him. I told him he made the wrong determination and I shouldn't even be billed. He argued it was better that he determine I not need a root canal vs I did need a root when I didn't need a root canal What!! He should have told me to wait until my novocain wore off to do cold tests! I trusted his expert opinion. He told me on the phone it didn't matter and they would still bill me. Then he put me back to the receptionist. I was surprised my insurance company did not cover it. I asked the receptionist a number of questions referring to billing codes and why I was denied. The receptionist told me to "stop crying" to her and call my insurance company! I couldn't believe she said that. I even said "Excuse me did you just say stop crying to me?" She said yes yes I did! I latter discovered my insurance company said I went past my 2 annual examanations but if an endodontist can't do his job then whey should I get billed? I certainly don't deserve a rude receptionist trying to belittle me. Now I have to go through the hassle of filing a grievance. I also left reviews on healthgrades. read more

I am highly impressed with Dr. Potente. I was referred to him by my dentist for a root canal and they got me in right away. I have the biggest fear of getting my mouth worked on and he made my experience much more pleasant than I thought it would be. He explained everything along the way, step by step, and even joked around easing my stress. I would def recommend him. He also worked really fast and I was out of there in about an hour - I originally thought I was going to be there all day! I wish I knew her name, but Dr. Potente's assistant was also lovely and I give her major credit for getting X-rays without hurting my mouth! The last couple of places I have been, it has been a little tougher. The only (kind of) downside - I am not sure if everyone standing behind the reception desk worked there or were patients, but when I walked in, a couple of them stared at me and a couple continued on with their pretty loud conversations. only after I said I had an appt. did one of them say anything - with that said, the receptionist that helped me was very sweet and friendly - maybe It was just a random occurrence. This wouldn't ever stop me from coming back to Dr. Potente and like I said, the staff was still very friendly. read more

Dr. Potente and his staff are extremely friendly and professional. I had to have a root canal on a tooth that had been giving me problems for nearly a month. Dr. Potente was so gentle during the procedure, I fell asleep while he was working on my tooth. There was no pain at all, and I had to get shots in the roof of my mouth which usually is one of the most painful things I can think of. I am so very happy I saw Dr. Potente that I will highly recommend him to anyone that needs any endontic work done. read more

Let me begin by saying I am a practicing dentist. I had had a root canal on a molar almost 30 years ago. While traveling recently, I had the worst toothache ever. If I could have pulled the tooth out myself I would have. Dr. Potente is who I refer my patients to so I made an appointment, worried that the tooth was unsavable. Dr. Potente re-treated the tooth in just over an hour. Nothing hurt, not the shots, not the root canal. I took the recommended amount of Advil and the tooth feels perfect! I will continue to send my patients to him. read more

Best endodontist in the area. No one likes to have to get a root canal but if you do I highly recommend Dr. Potente. I had a root canal done today and I can honestly say it's the best experience I have ever had a dental appointment. Dr Potente is excellent. He explained everything before he did it. I was referred to Dr. Potente by Dr. Mahaffey about 7+ years ago for a root canal. I was to have a crown a few days later by my dentist. This is the first time I've ever had anything done to my teeth besides a small cavity. Everything SEEMED fine during my visit and procedure. I got home and my whole tooth shattered. I only had a small piece of it still in tacked. When I called Dr. Potente and told him, he seemed only slightly concerned. He did nothing and said I didn't need to come in since I was seeing my other dentist in a few days. Because of his crappy work, my crown had nothing to hold onto and fell out at least 10 times. They have tried everything.... cementing 2 different kinds of posts, building up a fake tooth for the crown to hold onto etc. Then I got a second crown last year with gum trimming surgery to try to help it stay on. There's still such a bad gap with the worst food trap and now I'm told there's nothing more that can be done to "jimmy" it to try to keep it in place. My only option is to have an implant which will cost me $5,000!!! That will be about $7,000 total that I will spend on ONE TOOTH because of this guy. I'm beyond pissed that I am left to deal with this because of his below standard work. My dentist was in contact with him about too. And not once did Dr. Potente ever call me afterwards to check in with me or to apologize. Do not go here. You've been warned! read more

Great root canal experience! I just had the procedure yesterday and did not feel a thing besides a little pressure. Four times he used the needle to numb and not as much as a pinch, nothing. He is the best! Would recommend him to anyone looking for a pain free experience. Although, a little sore today (on ibuprofen every 4 hours for 2 days) that is to be expected. Dr. Potente is extremely professional and a highly qualified endodontist. read more

I saw Dr. Potente after having a previous root canal get a severe infection. Initially, Dr. Potente was going to retreat the root canal in attempts to save the tooth. During the x-ray the noticed a potential crack in the tooth that would make it unsalvageable. When completing the root canal he confirmed the crack in my tooth that would force me to have it removed. He cleared the infection and cleaned out the tooth and only billed my insurance for a consultation. (This allowed me to have more coverage for the follow-up procedure to have the tooth removed.)I appreciated his patient education and honesty. His staff and dental assistant were very helpful and kind during the process. They worked with my dentist's office (Dr. Van Nguyen) to get me in for an appointment after a painful toothache all weekend. Not sure if Dr. Potente moves around but I visited him at a dental clinic off of 3rd street in Hillcrest on a Tuesday morning. read more

I just got home and let me tell you a little something about Dr. Potente....He is AMAZING! BEST EXPERIENCE I HAVE HAD WITH THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY IN MY LIFE!!! read more

I neglected making an appointment with Dr. Potente for over a year because I was so afraid of all dentists! I have always had a regular dentist for check ups but even their method for injecting the local anesthetic was so painful that I'd tear up every time. I'm pretty sure I developed a mild form of PTSD over the years. When I finally decided to go through with the retreatment of a bad root canal I was amazed at how painless the process was. I was so relaxed that I almost fell asleep! I'm now embarrassed that I waited so long for a health problem that could've been fixed long ago. Thank you Dr. Potente for bringing back the faith! read more
