Wow what a beautiful gallery, the founder built this place 30yrs ago, he was way ahead of his time…read more The architecture is amazing & the pieces inside are equally as impressive. It's a great place to stop by, there's 2 floors & more art outside. If you want to purchase art, there's prices on each piece. You can easily spend about 30min here.

Each year, we trek to our TRIO favs-- Big Sur, Monterey and Carmel -- at least twice. We have our "must go to" spots and This gallery is one. It was started by a wonderful couple whose been married for 50 years! Their children and spouses all have a hand in the gallery from being an artist to administering and operations. It's a family affair. The love for each other spills into the love for their gallery and guests who visits. It's a magical place that touches all senses. The Hawthorne family is gifted with creative talent and visitors delight in their glorious art. Each work is a unique masterpiece. We love their paintings, sculptures and everything in between. The building is as "California " as you can get. Love the wood and floor to ceiling glass combination which lets the outdoors in. READ THE LABEL. We collect wind chimes and art as we travel. When in Big Sur this past week, we…read morebought a medium sized bell windchime. It was a little pricy at $110, but we like to support local art. The attendant gave us a new one in the box, instead of one already hanging that we were looking at. When we got home to Arizona, I unpacked the item, and found a MADE IN CHINA TAG!!! They appear to buy cheap art from China, and mark it up. If you want to support local art, find another store.

I hated this place. It has nice things, but they are so expensive that it made me mad. Now, I…read moreexpected that things would be expensive, I mean it's a gift shop for tourists (i.e., things will be overpriced) and at Big Sur (i.e., an area where everything is overpriced). But if you look at something in this gift shop, and think about what would be an overpriced price for it, and then double that, then you'll almost be at the price for it. Like there was this tiny little jar of local salt that was about the size of a thimble, and I thought oh that's cute, maybe that would be a nice souvenier, and then it was either $17 or $19 when I looked at the price. I mean it was tiny!! I mean, it was the kind of thing that should be like $3, but I thought gift shop so probably $7 or $8, but no, more than double that. Things were crazy expensive, and the more I looked at things, the more it just pissed me off, and took away from the experience of even just looking at nice things without intention to buy. It made me want to leave the store. I've never had a feeling like that in any touristy gift shop I've ever been to in my life, not anywhere in the US including other coastal areas of CA, not overseas. It was also not friendly while you are browsing, nor welcoming when you walk in. I would not go here again, and I would not recommend it to friends.

Big Sur, Ca. Probably my favorite Supercharger location…read more It's up a winding driveway and I had to pay attention to the various signs along the route for assurance I was heading the right way. When I arrived I was the only car here, it was actually pretty cool, it's a woodsy gravel lot. Located just a short distance up was a fabulous restaurant ( Sur House) that is a part of a resort. We were early for lunch but they invited us in to sit at the patio bar until they started seating at 11:30. We had a fabulous lunch here even though we had no reservation. A word of caution though. I was the only car here when I plugged in but while I was eating lunch at the restaurant about six more cars had arrived which meant that the stall occupancy exceeded 50%. This meant that I could incur a stall fee if I didn't move my car immediately after charging. Because of the remote location I never got the message that stall fees are impending so I didn't move the car and got hit with a $6.50 stall fee. Also displayed on the dashboard was the message I was blocked from any further Supercharging until I paid this fee. I had to remove Apple Pay as my payment method as it wasn't working, not sure if it ever was with Tesla though. Substituted with a credit card, paid the fee and the message went away.

What's up: Making our way up towards the Pfeiffer Big Sur Campground! This was our last charging…read morestop before heading in to our campsite. Parking: There are 8 back-in chargers located at this place. These are only 72 kW chargers. Environment: The chargers are kinda tucked away up the hill near the Ventana Resort. You'll first drive by the Big Sur Smokehouse at the bottom and as you drive up the hill, a bit after you see the Sun Stone and Meditation Circle sculpture on the right, you'll turn left and go up the hill some more. Right before you make your way to the resort, you'll see the chargers on the right. Just follow all the signs! A nice security guard nearby told us that restrooms are located down the hill near the Smokehouse. It's a bit of a walk but we were able to find them no problem. The outdoor restrooms are located on the east side of the restaurant. Yay/Nay/Meh: Meh. Finding the chargers were not too bad but the place is fairly remote. It's a lot of walking to get to restrooms but at least there's a decent view along the way. If you're into Pokemon Go, there are a few pokestops and gyms to keep you occupied while you walk around.
