I cannot fully describe the extent of how much I wanted to open my own apothecary upon entering…read moreEarth Cura and meeting Bonnie, even though I have zero knowledge of anything apothecary related. Bonnie and everything she makes (!! On site!!) are so darn cool and magical. Her shop is tucked away in a little nook between downtown Carmel and a residential neighborhood, so it might be easy to miss. Absolutely walkable from anywhere you park, of course, and 100% worth the visit even if you don't buy anything! I wish I asked more about the teas and remedies she makes, but she has so many of them targeting any ailment a human could possibly have. I was more interested in her candles (my guilty hoarding pleasure) because I love crystals and their meanings. Her smaller ones in the gold vessels are $52 and larger ones in locally made pottery are at least $150 I believe. Everything she offers is on her website except her beautiful candles since they sell so fast! My friend had her eyes on a pink quartz candle, but I said we can come back right before it closes if she's still thinking about it then. Of course we went back, and she actually fell in love with a different candle! ...and I did too. I first saw one with dominos that looked cool, but when we came back I saw one with a lapis egg. Bonnie had just made it that afternoon and set them on the display. We both LOVE the joy and peace our candles bring us :) Truly straight out of a fairy tale, the tiny spell shop by the sea!

We stopped by today after brunch and I wandered through the gallery admiring the ceramics, glass, soaps and other wares. Everything is locally made, much of it by Bay Area artisans. Lovely music played overhead, classical guitar by a local musician. I chatted w/ the gallery owner, Karen Reynolds, who told me a bit about where the work came from. One of the most impressive pieces was a stunning Chanukah menorah made of stainless steel and copper. She told me it took the artist 130 hours to create! He's making the next one of bronze, which will take less time because of the respective properties of the various metals. I didn't even ask how much it cost. This one is made to hold candles, the next one oil. Alan came in heard the overhead music and asked about it. We mentioned the loss of both the classical and jazz radio stations here and how we've been stuck w/ a garbage station in the car. Karen mentioned that KRML was Clint Eastwood's station. It pleased me that he bought and brought it back to life. Alan bought a CD, but I know KRML's place on the dial, so I knew we could find it. We did and unfortunately it's not what it was. We listened to the CD in the car and it will be a lovely addition to our music collection. We'll probably return tomorrow before we head home so I can look at some of the pieces that have been calling to me. The gallery has been open in this location for 10 months. As of April 1 it will be moving to Carmel-by-the-Sea where it will be located on San Carlos between Ocean and 7th. I'm sure it will be right at home in its new location and wish Karen well. I look forward to visiting the next time we're in the area.
