My experiences with The Barnyard go back many decades. I have a dear friend who lives nearby, having settled there after college. She quickly learned about places that locals love when the tourists aren't out in force. It was really helpful to learn from her insider knowledge during trips to visit her. When I used to live in the Bay Area, Carmel jaunts were more frequent. Now that I reside in SoCal, it's not someplace we get to visit that often. As such, it was a treat to get a chance to get back to The Barnyard recently. Our pal suggested meeting at From Scratch for breakfast. She relies on their food, and the location in The Barnyard is an added plus. Parking is free, and there's a reasonable amount of it. Now that I'm older and my knees not as flexible or forgiving as they used to be, I became aware that the many undulating levels and staircases throughout the property add visual interest, but mobility challenges. We entered from the north and it took a bit of navigating to find the restaurant. As we didn't want to be late meeting our friend, we didn't fully take in all there was to see about the unique architecture and many flower beds and other landscaping features of the shopping center. We were there on a Monday morning and it didn't seem like a lot of the shops were open yet at 10:30 a.m. It was definitely on the quiet side at that day and time. I did note a few upscale boutiques for clothing and home decor. If the weather had been nicer, and more time free for shopping / browsing it would have been great to wander around after breakfast. I did love seeing the large rows of Pride of Madeira flower bushes on the perimeter of the property. They show off well in this center where many lovely flowers call home in a unique setting. read more

Super cute location. Perplexing mix of businesses with even more perplexing hours. Absolute nightmare to navigate with a stroller. Offered variety of eating, drinking, and caffeine options steps from my hotel so plus points for convenience. read more

This shopping village has so much potential. I mean really a lot. It's got a few Staple restaurants and several stores. But there's just not enough traffic, even on the weekends. I'm not sure what they can do to pull in more people, maybe have some promotion days or major events, but I hope it thrives soon. I love that they had live music, not one but two locations, the day I went. come on locals and visitors, give this place some business! read more

Charming ambiance and pleasant gardens. I love the chocolate shop and the fact that I can bring my dog too !

We came upon this lovely Shopping Village in Carmel while seeking a restaurant for breakfast. It has many beautiful little shops and several quaint restaurants to choose from. The wooden architecture gives it a rustic and earthy flare. Colorful vegetation sprouts out of every nook and cranny. Each building has a letter on the side of it which really helps when seeking a restaurant or shop location. The Village is multi leveled with lots of stairs to maneuver which is the only way to get to some restaurants and shops. On Tuesdays from May to October, there is a small Farmer's Market in the Parking Lot. 10-12 tables display their fresh California Grown organic produce. This Shopping Village is conveniently located and has a lot to offer. It's a bit pricey to an out of towner as are most of the shops and restaurants in Carmel. Although expensive, the food and service from the restaurants was well worth it. When seeking something unusual, it's great to find it in the shops. read more

Cute little shopping village. We stopped in for the first time here even though we had seen it on all the trips we have made to the region to visit a breakfast place located here. It was a nice little place that we happened upon a small farmers market that is held every Tuesday during spring and summer months. Definitely worth checking out if you visit Carmel or Monterey. read more

Beautiful Design & Landscaping! We enjoy strolling among the water fountains, aromatic flowers and attractive landscaping in this shopping area. There are quite a few benches to rest on, including an open air fire pit for cooler nights. At night, the little white lights all over the place, make this place charming and romantic. The Barnyard Shopping Village had the most beautiful flowers I had ever seen at a shopping center. They keep the garden very clean. I went to the Barnyard at around 5pm and there was like no one around. I saw about a few people but that was it. The shops were very expensive. I ended up not buying anything. But it was a nice walk and took some nice pictures. I would not come back due to the lack of people and entertainment. Maybe I went at the wrong time considering there were lights hung all over the Barnyard, so they might be lit up at night. And maybe a band or more people would come. read more

We were craving Mexican. We had our puppies and Carmel Restaurant Listings guide/ map. (sadly I thought the Yelp app was experiencing some technical difficulties) We went on a mad hunt for **El Cuco Restaurante y Cantina**. We didn't notice that it was the ONLY listing on the map w/NO ph# ! lol. hhmm. As far as The Barnyard SV directory, it wasn't very good signage. ;( Found the two other Puppy Friendly eateries. Flanagan's Irish-American Pub and Allegro Gourmet Pizzeria. ( we will try next time) WE did find a completely abandoned place that looked like it could have been the place we were looking for. ;/ Overall, the shopping village is pretty cute and lots of parking. This is a nice little very dog friendly plaza with mostly consignment stores, cafes and restaurants. I have driven by this place so many times but I'm glad I stopped over. There are no chain or hipster joints here, just good old family runs businesses. Everyone is pleasant and friendly and it's a great stop if you are with your parents who appreciates older stuff read more

High end spot to shop and eat. Charming around every turn. My favorite spot for pizza is Alegro. You can also get a bagel at the bagel bakery or a nice coffee drink at Carmel coffee roasting company. Robata is a staple Japanese spot and there are tons of other gems. read more

The Barnyard is awesome! I've been coming here since it opened, so I've seen the changes with the times.... It has lovely shops, gardens and restaurants and good prices. You could bring a date or your family here and you will be pleasantly surprised. They've done a very good job with it and there are lots of local events happening and there is definitely something for everyone! read more

The setting couldn't be lovelier and the restaurants all looked inviting, but the stores leave a lot to be desired. There were a lot of tourists there so not having cute stores is a lost opportunity. Very nice thrift stores nearby however. read more

A fire pit, waterfall, and flowers everywhere...talk about a nice shopping center. This place is so cute and is filled with great independent restaurants and boutiques, it's worth a stop if you're in Carmel. Eat at From Scratch if you're there for breakfast or lunch. read more

What I really liked about this "mall" is that it was filled with boutiques with interesting items rather than just more big box stores and department stores. In fact, there were NO big box or department stores. All of the shops were interesting and the property itself was beautiful. Lots of free parking and easy access off and onto Highway 1. Wow.... what an incredible disappointment. While visitng Carmel, we were looking for some local shops outside of town and the Barnyard was recommended to us.... This place is a collection of random, aged boutiques that do not seem to carry anything of interest. Skip this place. You will not be impressed. read more

bahama island steak house has the best service the host david was wonderful as well as the food . My husband can not have seeds of any kind and when they brought him his sandwish it had seame seeds on it they gladly made him another sandwich .We also were in about 2 months ago blake is also wonderful .Yes we will be back read more
