I always loved this place when I was a kid. OK, it wasn't as cool as the Barnyard used to be (RIP sort of), but it was very cool nonetheless. All I really remember specifically is the really fun pet store that didn't sell actual animals, which bummed me out at the time but which I now realize is great; the crazy Mexican restaurant; the depressing pizza place; the radio station; and the pretentious art galleries. Stopped by Crossroads Carmel before checking into my hotel downtown. It's a small, cute shopping center with a handful of eateries and boutique shops. Prices were on the higher side, which isn't surprising for the area, but it was still fun to browse. A bit disappointing that several stores were closed during my visit, so it felt quieter than expected. I've heard they host a Poodle Parade here, which sounds adorable -- I would've loved to see that! Overall, a pleasant but not particularly memorable stop. read more

Just had an awful experience with Mike the crossroads employee. Maybe he's been here too long maybe he needs a raise? In the dark at 530 this morning he placed cones behind my car. He was wearing all black so I didn't know who the person was or why he was doing that and I didn't confront him. He then walked away. Imagine you pull into a public parking lot open to the public, run in to Safeway and get coffee and a donut and sit in your car to read emails while you have your morning snack and along comes a guy in all black who starts placing cones around your car. I waited until he was gone and I got out to move them so I could leave and out of no where he comes running up saying 'I'll do that!' Looking back on it all I was parked at the end of a row of spaces so he could have coned off all the spaces except mine and none of this confrontation would happen. Anyway while he moves the cones he asks if I work there. What the heck? You're in all black placing cones around cars early in the morning and then asking people if they work for Safeway? I ask him if he works there because he is the one placing cones around cars. I called the management to complain and got an actual human being on the third call. So grateful for that! That's excellent customer service. Expressed my concern and then found the guy again later who now had on a high vis vest on and driving an official crossroad vehicle. When I asked him for his name (Mike) he asked for mine. Seemed a bit confrontational when I told him I wasn't giving my name. I'm the customer who was trying to use services provided by the crossroads shopping center being treated poorly by untrained staff with a police ego, bad form crossroads. Do better. Stop confronting customers after hours in the dark while wearing all black. read more

I used to gravitate to this shopping center many, many times while living on the peninsula. So many fine shops and eateries. The place was always immaculately clean. The choice of restaurants were all first class eateries. The shops were all upscale. I always enjoyed my visits to this shopping center. read more

I can't fully vouch for the shopping at Crossroads - I can certainly give the center two thumbs up for them allowing Poodle Day to be hosted at the location! it's was great and you have to give it to them to rally behind this event - so thank you for your hospitality and generosity in hosting! From what I saw - the shopping looked great! as did the poodles! read more

I really only went here to go to one shop and then after I bought what I came for I decided to browse around the other shops that interested me. I dined at one of the restaurants here and I visited some really interesting shops such as: Spencer's Stationary (lots of beautiful cards and stationary), Lulu's Chocolates (tasty samples, kinda pricey), Consignment Carmel (lots of rustic furniture pieces), and The Treadmill (the awesome sportswear shop I came here for). I can conclude from what I saw the few times I did come to this "mall" that it's relatively pricey and definitely not for sales shoppers. It has a wide variety of shops from beauty salons, pricey apparel/shoe boutiques, moderate-priced restaurants, your average convenience stops (Safeway, Cvs/pharmacy, Bank of America, etc), etc. So if you have a specific need such as new running shoes from a knowledgeable staff (treadmill), high-end fashionable clothing (many shops), or a specific restaurant you want to try out then this is the place for you. If not, then you probably won't care to stop in here. read more

This place is convenient if you are heading down south to Big Sur or heading out to the Valley and want to grab a few handles of liquor or snacks at Safeway. Other than that there are only a few places that I frequent. Rio's is not a bad place to grad a drink with some friends, the food is pretty good (love the Chilaquiles!) and the wine selection solid. When my sister is in town we usually go to Yogurt Heaven. I'm lactose intolerant but I can hand Yogurt Heaven. Deelish. There is a cool ceramics studio near the back, a beauty supply shop and a decent Chinese restaurant. read more

The Crossroads Shopping Village is where the Carmel locals do their shopping, so you can imagine what a hip place it is...that's sarcasm, folks. But really, you have everything here for your basic necessities. There's Safeway, Longs, good restaurants, lots of little specialty shops of all types, and...isn't there a movie theater in the back? Or did they turn that into a AMC 65 theater multi-plex like every other independent movie house. It's pretty, it's landscaped, and it's mellow. I'm at The Crossroads about once a week. Why? Because it has a large Safeway, a CVS drugstore that often does not have what I want. My bank, Wells Fargo is there as is the place where I get my haircuts. It has several Resturants I don't go to as well as a lot of specialty ( and expensive) stores. I did buy a nice pair of walking shoes at The Treadmill. It has a nice pet store for stuff for my dog but that has been surplanted by one that just opened about five minutes from my home. Oh, my doctor's office is there as well as their lab for doing blood tests and such. That's another good reason to come to The Crossroads. If I think of any others, I'll do an updated review. read more

2 1/2 stars. In the old days (80s-90s), it was the Barnyard across the street that was booming and this place that always had more vacancies than stores. Now fate has flip-flopped. That said, however, except for the Safeway and Longs and a few restaurants (none look great), the stores aren't even enough to draw me inside. And here's where my attitude kicks in...why do rich people think it's OK to bring their dogs into stores when the rest of us would never do so? Rich dogs stink and make messes too, and for those of us with allergies related to dogs....please, have some common sense. Overall, I don't find this place appealing. read more

Best shopping center for variety and cleanliness on the peninsula. Love the size and offerings of the Center. From fish market and furniture, to chocolate coffee and cat supplies, the Crossroads has it all including doctors and veterinarians. All my groceries, gold and silver come from this place. read more

It is a toss up between here and the Del Mar Shopping center... If you can deal with the shitty parking and the massive hoard of folks who are totally clueless when it comes to watching where they are walking (world does not revolve around you) then happy overly priced eating/ shopping. read more

If you're looking for a poppin' shopping center/mall this is not the place. If you're looking for a quaint place to walk around and shop and support local ma and pa places this is your place! I rarely ever buy anything in The Crossroads, it's more of a place for me to act like a "local tourist" (since I'm from the Monterey Bay area) But a great place to window shop and get away from the crowds. read more

Once you've done the beach, mission and downtown, Crossroads is a nice dog friendly place to kill some time. While dogs are obviously not allowed inside food-related places, I recall every shop being dog friendly. We drank coffee outside of Carmel Valley Roasting company and took turns running into Lulu's chocolates (the best sea salt caramels). Be sure to check out Stephan Cori as they were having a big shoe sale and brands like Donald Pliner were heavily discounted. read more

So.. we ended our 17 mile drive here..in search of Starbuck (which was tucked away in side SAFEWAY). after.. circling the parking lot, ended up waiting in the line for 15 mins to place my order for coffee drinks..since there was only 1 person (the other was on break... my bad timing!). So we walked around some stores... most were about to close. the males were super friendly to my inquisitive kids..but.. the older ladies...were.. very scolding'ish. I wasn't too pleased.. especially that my kids were on best behavior .. just a bit curious.. and likes to ask questions. lots of very cool stores with lots of gift ideas..my Favorite was the luggage store! and they Super Super friendly sales girl!! she was so cheery and helpful..and almost got me to purchase a really cool purse hanger..:) for $30. !!!! :) They have really cool stuff in there! read more

First time here and last time. I'm from out of town and thought this place was worth the visit. Nope, save yourself the trouble. There's nothing unique or interesting about this place. It's very outdated. The only place that's worth stopping by Is Starbucks, cvs, and a new modern coffee shop called Carmel Valley Roasting (looks hipster/modern). Loved the relaxed feel of the outdoor space but the retail owners/managers were far from relaxed. Don't linger.

I love this place. Everything about it from the unique stores, lovely landscaping, the pet friendly environment and nice people to the easy parking. The bookstore has something for everyone, the coffee at the Carmel Roasting Co., is delicious and Vivian at Patricia's Hair Salon is talented with her scissors. I could spend all day sipping coffee and reading a newly purchased book. read more
