I've been a patient of Dr. Kathy's for many years. She has worked with me to resolve chronic hip pain, tightness in neck muscles and knee pain. I love that her focus is on movement - advising me on stretches and practices for a continued active lifestyle. She is energetic and positive in her approach. Each time I walk out of the office, I'm more comfortable and encouraged than when I entered! read more

Sorry, Positively Chiropractic - it's all you, not me. Unfortunately, it seems as if our initial meeting and sessions were too good to be true, as the subsequent sessions was such a downhill experience. Appointment days and times are limited, and sessions did not take longer than 10 minutes, and seems to take less and less each time; with the amount you pay, you'd think that there would be more of a check-in and a follow-up rather than just a quick adjustment and an 'adios'. We felt like we were just a numbered item going through an assembly line; so much so that the last (and, final) visit led to both the front staff and the chiropractor to completely forget that we were in a room, waiting. With the wait time becoming ridiculous, we knew that something was off - we left the room and realized that there was no communication or notification that a patient was waiting. How awful is that? I understand that sometimes, mistakes can happen, but the way that this was handled was extremely poor and left a bad taste in our mouths - there was blaming on the staff and absolutely no ownership of the mistake(s) that had happened. Fortunately, we found another chiropractor that we fell in love with that have and continue to provide such great patient care. +forgets a patient is waiting! +no communication with doc and staff +subsequent sessions are impersonal read more

Dr Oh who I visited today is an amazing practitioner. His knowledge of body structure and dedication to patient care is stellar. He helped me so much through the years. He fixed my TMJ and helped me with challenging back issues. With his care I learned how to observe my body and how to address things at home. I cannot thank him and his staff enough for accommodating me at the last minute. Leah D read more

Dr. Anna Mosely is knowledgeable, caring and experienced. I was was experiencing tightness on my shoulders, neck and overall upper back for three months. She worked on me and I feel like a NEW person. I will not hesitate to see her for maintenance and spinal decompression and realignment. We underestimate the power of a healthy spine! Like they say, you are "as old as your spine". I am spreading the good word to all my gym friends (and anyone who will listen!): do yourself a favor and get realigned. You will get your energy flowing as it should. The admin staff is professional and very welcoming. They will answer any questions with utmost care. read more

I was fortunate enough to find Dr. Yen my acupuncturist. She is extremely knowledgeable and has helped me with back issues that I have had for 5 years. I have severe stenosis in my lower and upper back. I have had cortisone 8 shots, none of it has helped. For the first time in 5 years I am able to walk down stairs with alternating feet. She listens to what you say and treats the whole patient. I have recommended her to several friends two of them are now seeing her on a regular bases. I went to Positively Chiropractors for chiropractor care that was great! I still see Dr. Min as well who is great. I am so glad that Positively Chiropractic sees the benefit of acupuncture treatments and alternative treatments. Dr. Yen and her treatments have helped me tremendously if you have considered acupuncture and wondered if it works it does with the highly qualified(she has many degrees and certifications ) Dr. Yen. Just had my first massage session with Kyori. I'm currently 33 weeks pregnant and dealing with random bouts of sciatica along with the general stiffness and uncomfortableness of the end of pregnancy. Kyori was so relaxing, kind, and knowledgeable. She listened to my concerns and targeted the trouble spots. It's too early to say if it helped with the sciatica but it definitely was super relaxing and felt so dreamy. It is definitely a treat and can't wait to return. Thanks Kyori! :-) read more

I lived with chronic back pain for more than a decade. Traditional physicians wanted to treat me with pain pills (no thank you) but Dr. Kathy prescribed a course of natural treatment including massage and adjustments. Now, several years later I am pain free. In addition, she cured a problem with my hands that the specialist wanted to use exploratory surgery to 'see what's going on.' I find Dr. Kathy to be passionate about her patients, genuinely caring and warm and willing to take the time to understand and listen rather than just rush people through. Since going to PC I have been healthier, happier and in far less pain. She has gotten me trained for century (bike) rides, helps rehabilitate a turned ankle and a number of other ailments that others have tried and failed to address. If you're looking for a medical professional who understands 'patient centered' care and all the other buzz-words really come down to taking the time to care for people, I can think of no better practice or professional. read more

If you are looking for long lasting results, I very highly recommend Dr. Jessi Wright. A year ago, I wrote a review describing how through a lot of hard work and attention to detail, Dr. Wright got my shoulder working quite well again, and likewise was able to relieve emerging problems with my lower back and knees. Joint and soft tissue problems can take awhile to heal, but with proper diagnosis and therapies, the right exercises, diet and diet supplements, a lot is possible. In my case, I was able to unbelievably swim the mile faster than 35 years ago. Not suggesting everyone will find the fountain of youth, but with the right mindset and commitment, you may surprise yourself. Definitely helpful though to have a doctor who also gladly serves as a coach and is fun and motivational to work with. It has been almost 12 months since my last visit, but continuing with all the recommended activities, I am happy to report that the shoulder, lower back and knees are continuing to do just fine. And without even setting it as a goal, I am closing in on a new personal record, this time in push-ups. So, if you're wanting to get on the comeback trail and are looking for someone to work with you as a partner, you can't go wrong with Dr. Wright. read more

Don't be fooled by the owner's charisma and energy. I have completed at least 13 sessions with this practice and have seen no improvements at all. Meaning, I've paid at least $500 to see no improvement at all, and this does not include the money paid for the insurance in the first place. My latest visit was last week and when I told the owner, Kathy Coutinho, to focus on the problem, she proceeded to tell me, that my job was to massage it and her job was to align me. The whole point in choosing to come to this practice was to get better because I fell off the roof and needed someone that could actually help, not someone who treats all their customers like they're the same person. Kathy is a great person but to me, is more focused on the time and doing the least amount of work. Perhaps all the energy she has should be focused towards actually helping someone get better. I am sure she has success stories but I am not one of them at all. The original post was edited due to the owner reaching out to me and telling me not say "lies". I had originally said $2000 instead of $500, because I was including the money I paid for insurance so that I could complete a program and not pay an insane amount every visit. The $500 is all Co-pay. She also mentioned I had cancelled a few appointments and my response to that is, of course I did, I was not seeing any results, and felt like I was being treated like a generic customer. Just like any other patient, I had specific problems that I was hoping to recover from. read more

Let me preface this by letting you know that I'm guilty of taking advantage of reading reviews people post online, but I've never taken the time to write my own review before. The magnitude of my positive experience with Dr. John Dandelski has motivated me to break this bad habit and spread the word about how amazing he is. Forgive me for the lengthiness, but I have a lot to say! My foot issue: In May 2012, I started training for the Marine Corp Marathon with the TEAM TO END AIDS. While I am an experienced runner, I have never run such a long distance before. Each week, I slowly increased my mileage without any issues until I completed the 10 mile training run. I felt fine during the run but the next day, I began to feel sharp pain beginning on the outside of my right foot and shooting up my ankle. This pain became increasingly worse throughout the day, so much that it was nearly unbearable to walk. I was limping around and wincing in pain. I seriously thought it must be broken. I guessed it might be a stress fracture. I made an appointment right away with a podiatrist (doctor specializing in disorders of the foot, ankle, and lower extremity). The podiatrist took xrays and performed an examination. She told me there was no sign of fracture and that it was probably tendonitis. She prescribed me a strong steroid medication (taper pack) - this was supposed to be the equivalent of receiving a cortisone injection in my foot, and she told me that my shoes were not good and that I needed more rigid shoes. However, after finishing all of the medication, I didn't feel any relief from the sharp pain in my foot. The new running shoes that I bought didn't help at all either. I reached out to the coaches on my team for advice and one of them mentioned that she was a firm believer in ART, which she received at a sports injury clinic. Her doctor's office was just too far away from my house though. But her advice got me searching on the internet, and I stumbled upon a chiropractor that specializes in sports injuries located closer to my home. In my first visit with Dr. John Dandelski, I was shocked to finally feel some relief from the pain (after being in pain for 10 days). After performing an examination of my major issue, Dr. John told me that the bones in my right foot were completely locked up and he was skeptical that I actually had tendonitis. He made several adjustments and actually had me run outside in the parking lot afterward to see if the adjustments he made had helped. To my surprise, I felt relief right away (I was actually able to run) although I did still feel some pain/achiness in my foot. That pain went away completely after a couple days. In my 1st visit, after receiving several adjustments to my neck, back, hips, and feet (literally a comprehensive whole-body treatment!), I mentioned to Dr. John that I had somehow damaged by jaw from trying (unsuccessfully) to bite into the gum at a center of a (stale) blow pop. He made adjustments to my jaw and showed me an exercise to do on my own to strengthen my jaw. Whatever he did worked. I've been to a few chiropractors over the years to help me with my migraines, but none have been as good as Dr. John. From personal experience, I would highly recommend him. I really wish I had saved the time and money I spent at the podiatrist (not to mention the hardship to my liver from the useless medication) and seen Dr. John from the beginning. I plan to continue to go to Dr. John for preventative maintenance, especially as I continue to train for the marathon, and also continue to receive adjustments to my neck so I'll hopefully experience fewer migraines. I honestly thought I was going to have to drop out of the marathon training program due to my foot issue, but after a few visits with Dr. John, I am now back on track with my training, and I feel confident that I'll make it to race day (10/28!) and successfully complete my first marathon ever. In less than 4 hours... well maybe... I can dream, right? It will seriously just be a huge accomplishment though, just to complete the 26.2 miles and feel healthy afterward. Dr. John has an office in Annandale and Washington D.C. (very close to Farragut West metro station). These two offices operate independently of each other and FYI - his Washington D.C. office does not accept insurance, but the upside of that is the fees are cheaper and the online booking system makes it very easy to schedule appointments. I would recommend calling your insurance company beforehand and find out whether or not this specific provider is covered. If he is not, then it will definitely be less expensive for you to see Dr. John at his downtown office. Google the heck out of him and you will find numerous glowing reviews. I recommend not waiting until you are in pain (like I did) and have no choice but to seek treatment to correct an injury. read more

Doctors and staff are upbeat, friendly and helpful. I've been coming here for years and every doctor is amazing.

I am a patient of Dr. John Dandelski and have had a wonderful experience. I had been going to another chiro for the past couple of years and my lower back pain has not been adequately treated. My first visit with Dr. Dandelski was remarkable. I thoroughly enjoyed his demeanor and approach. He listens intently and was able to diagnose an issue with my feet that has been contributing to my pain. No one else has ever been able to to that! Dr. Dandelski brings a much more complete level of expertise to treat me. My pain has been relieved way beyond what my old doctor could achieve over the last few years. I also like the fact that Dr. Dandelski and the entire staff has expertise in the sports arena as most, if not all, are athletes themselves. Dr. Dandelski is an avid running and triathlete so he personally knows how aches and pains can impact the performance of athletes. Thanks Dr. John!! Steve read more

Dr. Stephanie Johnson is amazing! As a new mom, my neck and hip have been all sorts out of alignment. I have kinks and pain I never had before. I have been seeing Dr. Anna for YEARS, she is the best and I have recommended NUMEROUS friends to her. As well as Kyori for massages. The staff is super nice & helpful & Dr. Anna takes special interest in each one of her patients. She has been booked solid before & taken me in when I was in pain or had a migraine. She will let her staff know when she will see someone for special needs. For awhile the desk staff didn't seem like they knew what they were doing (especially after Will, Heather & Nicole left after being there for so long & running the office seamlessly) Things seem to be on the right track again. They specialize in sports related injuries so its great that they don't focus on just back or neck injuries or pain. I have scoliosis but Dr. Anna has also addressed problems I've had with my knees, jaw, shoulders, or feet etc. Sometimes Dr. Anna's schedule changes, but they send out updates when she is going to be out of town & her availability. She is there all day Monday, half days Friday & also Saturdays. Kyori is awesome but be sure to book her far in advance because she is pretty popular. I can not say enough good things about these two! I went from seeing Dr. Anna 2 times a week to once every couple of weeks!!! She is SUPER invested in each of her patients and genuinely cares about their well being & treatment. read more

Dr. Heather Jones is excellent. She listens to what your issues are and treats the problem. I have recommended her to family and friends.

I have been seeing Dr. Rose for over two years now, and decided it was high time to write a review since I love Positively Chiropractic! I'm a runner and can be counted on to have various twinges/injuries at any given time. Dr. Rose always knows how to pinpoint the problem and get me back to feeling healthy. In addition, she is a genuinely nice person who really cares about her patients and keeps track of what's going on with them! After all this time, I definitely consider her a friend and know I can count on her to give me the best treatment available. In addition to Dr. Rose's excellent services, all of the office staff have never been anything less than courteous and helpful. I am always impressed when they greet me by name when I come in! I would recommend Positively Chiropractic, and specifically Dr. Rose, to anyone! read more

I came in cause my back was all messed up, low back, like C-2 - T-4. Dr. Rose was who I was recommended to see and she did wonders to my back. She was nice, thorough and adjusted me in such a way I had no more pain and "tingling" anywhere along the spinal column. However, I still frequently visit her and recommended Dr. Rose Moeser to anyone with complex issues, illnesses or questions concerning Chiropractic and even this thing called, ART. Active Release Technique. She can do wonders to sore muscles and tendon areas. Holy smokes! On behalf of Positively Chiropractic, see Dr. Rose and never see another Chiropractor again! read more

I love Dr. Kathy! I can not say enough good things about her or her masseuses. I have been seeing Dr. Kathy for over 2 years now. I went to her when my back went completely out. I had never had this happen before and I had never used chiropractic. My friend recommended Dr. Kathy and her staff. I am now a firm believer. Dr Kathy and Kyori worked together to get my back back into shape and got me back to the gym! They are miracle workers. So much positive energy in this place! I now go once a month to keep everything in tip top shape! Love them! read more

I had a pinched nerve disc in my neck, causing me pain and discomfort in my neck shoulders and left arm. After seeing a pediatric, I was prescribed painkillers which were not effective. After seeing a spine doctor for 3-4 months, I was given pills and three injections to the spinal cord which by the end of the treatment, surgery was the only suggestion since there was no sign of relief. Finally a friend suggested I go to a chiropractor, so I found Positively Chiropractic. Once I called, the very helpful receptionist swiftly connected me with Dr. Anna Moseley who asked me several questions leading to us setting up an appointment. With each visit the pain diminished greatly, without the use of any pills from the other doctors. It's been 6 weeks since the first visit and I am 95% pain free (the disc will not heal 100%) and I don't need to take any prescriptions. read more

I recently made a last minute appointment after I slept weird and had some pretty bad pain in my shoulder/neck. They got me in for an appointment same-day on a weekend and Dr. Johnson was incredible. They were expedient getting me in a treatment room, and Dr. Johnson took the time to diagnose the issue and provide treatment. After about 30-45 minutes, I was already seeing a big improvement and reduction in pain. Dr. Johnson even showed me a website to find a certified chiropractor in the city I'm moving to shortly. I have recommended Positively Chiropractic to a number of friends already! I am an avid mountain biker and do a lot of training off the bike, including running on hills. Last spring I was experiencing a lot of hip pain and eventually had to stop running. Stretching did not help. We set a goal of reducing my pain level by 50% within 3-4 weeks. Within four weeks of treatment I had no pain and was back running again. Now it is November - six or so months from the time that I couldn't even run due to the pain. I have zero pain! Dr. Anna, you are the best! read more

I aggravated an old lower back injury at the end of November 2012 and began seeing Dr. John Dandelski because of it. I chose him because I am a relatively new runner and I am training for my first half marathon in the spring. I read that Dr. John is a triathlete so I was confident that he would know the best way to get me back on the road. Was I ever right! I had a relapse at then end of December because I overdid it kickboxing but nary a twinge since. I'm now up to 20 miles a week and I plan on returning for regular tune-ups so I can not only complete my half but take on a full in October! I appreciate that Dr. John really listens to me and isn't just a "crack and go" like other chiropractors that I have seen in the past. He really works to discover the root cause of the problem and provides you with stretches, etc. that you can do at home to work on your problem areas. I highly recommend him! read more

I was very apprehensive about getting an adjustment as I have been practicing yoga for many years and thought that it was sufficient and that I did not need to get an adjustment. I was very wrong Dr. John Dandelski assessed my problems very quickly and adjusted my spine, shoulders and hips. I really had no clue how out of align my shoulders, hips and spine were. I felt 10 times better after one adjustment and can't wait to go back for more. The best part is that there are positiions within my yoga exercise that I always had difficulty achieving the correct hip and back and knee positions , in order to deepen my practice. Dr. John has solved my problems and I also feel much better. I sit at a computer all day and we all know that that is not good for the body. We need to do things that counteract the realities of the working world that we live in. Thanks Dr John ......I will be back for more aligning. read more

Let me start off by praising Dr. Stephen K.'s outstanding service (5 star!). He is an excellent listener who has addressed my back issues efficiently and I am pleased with the results. I am noticing my back pain is diminishing. However, I am all about the overall experience, and the customer service I have had with one of the staff members was anything but good. Unfortunately, I decided to cancel my future appointments and stop seeing Dr. K following the unbelievably frustrating experience I have had with one of the staff. Like any other customer, I expect to be treated with courtesy and appreciation, and I expected the shortened version of the situation described below to be handled with respect and empathy. I can't continue going when this particular staff tells me to "calm down" in a mocking manner after frustrating me, and providing me with absolutely poor customer service. She wanted to penalize me with a "no show" fee when I called, as a courtesy, to let her know I was running 10 mins late because of traffic. I felt she was deliberately making things difficult for me. She made no attempts to be accommodating and understanding and me getting there a little late was not an option. What boggles my mind is when I am told "I should have called 24 hours in advance" about being 10 minutes late to avoid the "no show" fee when I was on my way; I was just running late. My issue is not with the $35 penalty, but with how this person handled the situation! NO SHOW means not showing up, not calling ahead to tell them I'll be 10 mins late. She turned a simple matter into a very frustrating and unpleasant situation. She left such a bad taste in my mouth I have decided to switch doctors. This person cost Positively Chiropractic a potential loyal customer (and referrals). My appointment was at 9:45am, and supposedly (according to her) if I got there by 10, the doctor couldn't see me because he had another appointment at 10:00am. It made no sense because my doctor's session usually lasts at least 30 mins to 45 mins. Did that mean the doctor was planning on seeing me for 10-15 mins? From 9:45 until 10:00am when based on my prior experience I was never seen by the doctor at exactly my appointment time?! She has no common sense and certainly no desire to provide good enough service to maintain patients. This staff member did not care about my business so I am off to finding a better customer experience elsewhere! Some place where "calming down" won't be an issue because I will deal with a competent individual who understands the value of good customer service--someone that appreciates customers' business, and accommodates customers when they are running 10 mins late (for the first time!!!) The lady I dealt with has a lot to learn if she plans on staying in the customer service industry. May I recommend reading some books on customer service to understand how that is a key differentiator in maintaining any business? Until then, hope no one else has to experience a similar situation. Again, I recommend Dr. Stephen K. but glad I don't have to deal with the staff member in the future! read more

Kathy Coutinho's chiropractic adjustments of my knees in January 2010 led directly to the tearing of the medial meniscus in my left knee, eventually requiring surgery in late February 2010 to remove the torn portion. This is not my opinion, but rather the professional judgment of two orthopedic surgeons I consulted after the injury, which occurred in the days after the adjustments. In fact, the surgeon who operated on my left knee said Coutinho's adjustments also damaged the cartilage in my other (right) knee, structurally compromising it to the extent where the surgeon said he expects me to suffer a similar injury to my right knee if I try to resume running. I had been an avid runner for years, often logging between 20 and 30 miles per week. In all my years of running and playing basketball, I never broke any bones or tore any cartilage or ligaments. I sought out Coutinho at her practice, Positively Chiropractic in Annandale, Va., at the advice of the folks at my local running store, who thought she might be able to help me alleviate the hamstring cramps that bothered me during my training for the 2010 Marine Corps Marathon. The adjustments of my knees, which Coutinho said were to improve my range of motion, did not seem at all relevant to my hamstring cramps, but I figured - regrettably - that Coutinho knew what she was doing. The torn meniscus kept me from running the marathon. In fact, though I have been working out on an elliptical and arc trainer, I have been advised against running until at least mid July 2010 (seven months after the injury and nearly five months after the surgery). Coutinho at first denied that her adjustments could have played a role in my meniscus tear, but she eventually called and apologized and asked to see the MRI and accompanying report, which I did not provide to her, since I do not intend to avail myself of her services again. I recommend against seeking adjustments from Coutinho. read more

Let's start out with the fact that I am a chiro skeptic. Should we really be messing around with something as important as a spinal column and chiropractic doesn't even have an associated noun, only the adjective!?!? I tell you these things so you know where I am coming from, and I am not one of the chiro-kool aid drinkers. Perhaps I should also add that I am not an elite runner, just a back of the packer - and then last winter, a broken down back of the pack runner with a marathon looming on the horizon, and not nearly enough training under my belt due to a knee that just wouldn't get on board with the program. On the recommendation of a friend that had been in a similar situation (PosiChiro got him put back together and to Boston the next week...), putting my skepticism aside, and internet researching the heck out of Dr. John, I came in for a chat. His scientific background was especially appealing to me. This, coupled with his natural affability, put me enough at ease with the idea of chiropractic so he could walk me through my knee issue. Dr. John was very thorough and took plenty of time to explain every facet of what the issue could be before going through diagnostic tests to determine what was the issue. My knee pain was linked to hip issues. In the diagnostic portion of the visit, he was clear about what he could and would want to do in terms of adjustment as he went through the tests. Once I was comfortable with the idea and granted permission, he performed adjustments. Was it an instant miracle and I jumped back into my long runs? No. But did it hurt when I walked the next week or shoot fire down my leg when I sprinted a block to catch the bus? Not anymore. A few visits later, and a few weeks of rest and prescribed exercises/stretches, I was able to complete my scheduled marathon - even achieving a time a smidgen under my initial goal (that had been long abandoned when the knee went wonky). I like that he isn't a "crunch-and-done" type of fellow, he is genuinely interested in his people and seems to view himself as part of your training team for whatever you are working toward. In fact, he even emails after a race to check in on how it went and how you are feeling. Additionally, he provides great exercises and stretches to maintain and improve on the bodywork he performed as well, and shows you how to do them all correctly before leaving the office. If only he could MAKE us do them on our own too... While still having lingering weirdness with the idea of chiropractic medicine, it is clear that there was improvement in my knee/hip issue and therefore I am still working with Dr. John and referring my broken down, chiro-skeptical friends to him as well. read more

Doc John Dandelski is awesome. After having gone through 4 other chiropractors due to back injuries sustained in a deployment overseas, I settled with John due to his comprehensive knowledge. He took a lot of time to understand my symptoms, and went through a very, very thorough work-up to understand what was going on with my body. He understood my condition more than my other 4 chiros combined.
