I've had normal periods my entire life until recently. I experienced heavy bleeding every 30 minutes , blood clots, and spotting up to 12 days before my period. Nothing in my life had changed to cause such a drastic change other than taking a round of antibiotics. Of course the ER and OBGYN recommended birth control to stop the bleeding , but as we all know that's a temporary fix with lasting side effects. Doctors and even Google searches came up saying that antibiotics have no effect on menstruation. We all know the effect it has on the gut which is really the gateway to health. Not to drag this on, but I came to Dr. Kim, because my mother would go for nerve/muscle pain. I came in and told him about the heavy bleeding and spotting I experienced. I did 14 sessions with Dr. Kim, and yes a little pricey $60.00 if you pay in cash. He did the acupuncture and gave me herbs. I'm happy to say, that the periods are back to normal and so far no mid cycle spotting. The acupuncture gave me the best sleep of my life, helped regulate my bowels as well as periods. If you're a woman, and are experiencing abnormal periods please try acupuncture! It is costly but be committed to the sessions and the diet Dr. Kim recommends and you'll be feeling great in no time. Dr. Kim is amazing! I have had chronic neck and shoulder pain for over twenty years. During those twenty years I had been given a number of drugs which did little to alleviate my pain. I'm sure for some, Kim acupuncture is great, but for people that want real guidance and want a gentle service, this is NOT the place. Everyone is different and He believe more pain is working.. which is false! There is different type of way in acupuncture and his way is only one way - rough. After I told him where he stuck the needle hurts, he still does it at the same spot After you have warm him! In fact he does it even harder and thinks it's working. There are two aspects of this practice I should draw your attention to: the doctor himself and the administration (front desk). First, the jolly Dr. Kim, who handles anywhere from 2-6 patients simultaneously in the different treatment rooms of his practice, is a colorful character. His approach to holistic wellness and use of acupuncture to stimulate the body's own healing systems has been effective for me in the treatment of injuries as well as to promote general wellness. (I initially went to him for plantar fascitis on foot). He has a light, sunny disposition. In his practice and advice, he conveys a profile of health where nutrition, the internal organs, the mind all synchronize in the body together. He associates bodily pains/cell degeneration/eyesight issues/depression and anxiety with nutrition, and suggests diet changes to complement acupuncture treatment. Only with diet changes do you get effective, positive, speedy body response. While taking treatment (electrical stimulation through strategically placed needles) you can hear him sing to himself and exclaim loudly to other patients. His language skills in English are not the best, but he has so much experience with people's bodies and problems, that he can quickly assess you and takes appropriate action. Although I felt my discussion with him was truncated, it appeared to have hit on key notes so he treats me for some deep-rooted issues that impact my overall mental and physical health. I trusted him with issues that I hadn't felt able to discuss with my other acupuncture doctor in Rockville, who after several years, had begun taking me for granted. So I am a fan of Dr. Kim. The assistants are hit or miss. They are involved in the treatment since they set the electrical stimulation after the doctor has put the needles in your body. The Korean lady at the front desk has a bit of a 'cattitude', and unfortunately her bedside manner is equally gruff. There are times when she (and some others) don't even say a word as they set the machine and hook you in. It's a shame because the doctor himself is great. (Fortunately, there is another very young girl there, who is a lovely assistant to Dr. Kim, and I breathe a sigh of relief when she is working on me!) Re: the second part of the review about office administration, I am not a fan of the aforementioned lady at the front desk who handles billing, records and invoicing. I have insurance coverage of holistic treatments including acupuncture. But in order for insurance to reimburse me for the $45 treatments each visit, I need a proper invoice that includes the federal tax ID of the provider, license number of the doctor, diagnosis and treatment codes. This was a huge stumbling block. The front desk gives you a tiny slip of paper with a scrawl which is inadequate as a receipt from a medical practice. The receipts elicited the following comment from insurance: "Please resubmit with proper date of service because cannot read the date." The front desk doesn't provide sufficient details in their receipts. I persisted, emailed, and talked and got these details, and then spent a lot of time re-writing their receipts and resubmitting to insurance. Thanks to my outstanding insurance company who worked with me to facilitate my reimbursements, I'll get it done. However, their paperwork correction took up a lot of my time. I can't understand why they don't have a bill tablet printed up with their license numbers and tax-IDs; surely it would make them more popular and palatable to those of us whose insurance covers acupuncture. (My other acupuncture doctor works directly with my insurance, it's not unheard of. I believe Dr. Kim just avoids the cost /burden of dealing with insurance firms.) On request, Dr. Kim charges $15 for an invoice that will include all the treatments to date with codes on it. I wasn't sure, based on the sloppy front desk performance, whether it would have all the necessary details. read more

I have been in pain in both of my wrists from carpal tunnel syndrome. While I was getting referrals from my doctor to see a neurologist and waiting forever to get an appointment. I was recommended to see doctor KIM. I had several treatment from him in December 2019, the pain in my palm and numbness in my fingertips has improved. Today, February 19th 2020, I went back to see him for my thumbs, wrists and elbow pain. As soon as he manipulated my thumb joints, I can immediately feel some relief. I started coming here a few months ago off of a friend's recommendation. I've heard she has had relief from everything like allergies, sinuses/colds , aches and pains to migraines and menstrual cramps. GREAT DECISION on my part to just stop by on a whim instead of living with pain. It's $70 for your first visit, $45 every following visit. No you won't get a lot of sweet long conversations and face to face time with Dr.Kim but he's very pleasant and most importantly knows what he is doing and does it it well. My husband and I come for or back or neck pain that we get from work. He agrees that you do feel some instant relief walking out and it does last a fair amount of time. But recently I got a pinched nerve in my leg which is probably the most painful injury I've ever had. Dr.Kim found he nerve quickly and treated it twice now. He said one more round will probably do it and of course with any holistic treatment you gotta give it time. After the first visit I felt 30% better and after the second 70% better. I tried Acupuncture for the first time in July of this year. My right ankle was crushed badly in a car accident and I walk with pain. I also have allergies. Dr. Kim is treating me for both to a GREAT success. I wear an ankle brace for support (my ankle specialist wants to "fuse" my ankle and I don't want to do it so we're at a stand off) - since July of this year I haven't had to wear the brace (except in Jamaica wearing non-ankle supportive flip flops). Dr. Kim is a godsend. I say this with full knowledge that it sounds exaggerated, and with the preface that I am very critical of alternative methods of medicine. I am also a demanding customer, and believe that only the companies offering the highest level of service are deserving of my patronage. The Practical: Dr. Kim is not only deserving of one's patronage, he's worth giving a try as a skeptic, because he's relatively inexpensive. I paid $75 for my first visit, and $45 for every subsequent viist. I should note that he will charge $40 if you pay with cash. My insurance does reimburse me for acupuncture treatments, but I have to submit receipts, as Dr. Kim's office doesn't deal with insurance companies (the only reason I gave them a 4 instead of a 5). The Physiological: Dr. Kim's medicinal believes and acupuncture practices have really healed me in more ways than I originally wanted them to. I have disc issues in my neck that cause me frequent pain. I also suffer from migraines, stomach issues, a skin disorder, and high levels of stress. I went to Dr. Kim for the pain, but he his acupuncture has improved all of the other areas of my life. I also sleep much, much better. I have been doing acupuncture for only one month, and in that month, I have gone 8 times. I never did acupuncture before Dr. Kim, but I have seen it administered on family members. He will likely ask that you comply with a special diet of soup, vegetables, and rice (a kind of Korean porridge in small amounts throughout the day, only when hungry) and ask that you commit to this while he treats you. My understanding from him is that this is a sort of detox to rid your body of toxic chemicals that affect its functions. I don't care if it sounds quacky: it works. I have been going to Dr. Kim's office for my pain treatments almost 20 years now. I don't go to his office too often or regularly. But whenever I need help from Dr. Kim, I will be there and he will fix my issues quick enough me to feel the differences. Of course, during the 20 years, I have tried to use other acupuncturists because my friend told me or I could use my insurance to cover it. However, all other acupuncturists which I tried, nobody could fix my long term problems especially pains on my wrist, but Dr. Kim could. My mother had a pinched nerve in her neck (C7). She suffered severe pain for about two months taking pain killers and going through physiotherapy, neither of which helped. A spine specialist recommended her to either get a shot or go for surgery. As a last resort she gave acupuncture a try. Dr. Kim. He used a combinations of needles and electric pulse and was able to treat her in about 8-10 sessions. She was completely cured of pain. He was very friendly and answered all questions. If it's hurting, Dr. Kim will fix you. I've been seeing Dr. Kim since I was about five-years-old. This man has cured just about every single member of my family of various aches, pains, and ailments. Seriously, if you have the stomach bug, a sinus infection, a stiff neck, or even serious chronic illnesses, there isn't anything that Dr. Kim can't treat. He even helped treat my brother's freakish bee sting that caused an entire part of his head to blow up 5x its original size! As soon as you walk in, you'll be greeted by the receptionist. She'll have you fill out a couple of forms about your general health. Dr. Kim pretty much runs a one man operation, so you might be waiting quite a while if he's busy, but trust me...it's worth the wait. I came to see him during #blizzard2016 due to an extremely painful stiff neck that I had been dealing with for days. My visit lasted for about 30 minutes, and I walked out of the door feeling 80% better. Dr. Kim moves really fast - by the time you can explain what's hurting, you'll have a couple of needles sticking out of your body. The next thing you know, you're hooked up to this electric machine that sends tiny little shockwaves to each needle. This isn't the kind of acupuncture I'm used to, and I'll admit that it was pretty painful, but a trainee walked by and lowered the intensity for me, and I was able to endure it. He finished by sticking some more needles in my leg and stretching/massaging my neck. Whew.
