Posidog is the bestttt! At the time, my golden retriever was 6 months old when we started classes here and it felt like i had a crazy stinky tornado running through my apartment lol. Our trainer, Lisa, was AMAZING and so kind and helpful. Despite having multiple people in the class, she took time to observe each dog and give positive feedback and guidance. She was very open to questions about training and gave very clear and genuine advice. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who prefers to train their dog using positive reinforcement! It definitely requires you to put in the majority work at home with your dog but they do an amazing job of showing u how to do it! read more

...you had me saying goodbye at "your dog is medicated right?" No. "Maybe you should look into that." My response here isn't going to be any different really than the other low marked reviews, other than we were in the aggressive dog training and not puppy dog training. I had high hopes after pre- screening other facilities. I didn't know too much or was well versed on positive dog training coming into that first meeting and wish i did before we committed. I will say this, that before going into any sort of training for your dog. Research. Research. Research. I clearly did not and ended up spending an extra $150 on treats. I would have been good on going to just the 3hr orientation. She taught a lot of good info, but it's a lot. Bring a snack. ;) If you know and come to understand the breed (or breeds if mixed) you and your dog can work to correct the behaviors. Positive dog training is adding something positive to increase the behavior (reinforce) you want or stop a behavior (punishment) although we're taught it's not really punishing. The class felt like I was constantly just giving him treats all the time for no reason but to distract him from other dogs barking but to me it felt like i was rewarding him FOR barking when other dogs bark, not distracting him from doing it. One key thing I will say that affected me negatively was the attitude from the trainers to us dog owners. Some days he seemed to have a good attitude and most times not. (read other reviews for more info on that) There was lack of organization after orientation; no follow-ups ever and no one during class came to check on us hardly. Even if i asked, it was moved like a few inches so i didn't really feel like we made progress. The last class we took was great. The trainer wasn't there but 4 others were and they all came around to check and ask us questions, move our barriers. They should just do that all the time. We came to class once with our barrier set in the middle of two other dogs - there was a gap in the barrier and the dogs saw each other and went bazurk. AND both dogs on either side had loud dog tags on. the trainers didn't do much to take care of it... in orientation they explicitly told us no tags being an aggressive dog class we needed as little distraction as possible. Anyways, since the classes a year ago, I've dived head first into dog training books in order to train myself and I'm happy to report I understand my dog and the energy I bring into the space with my dog. All things associated if you want to cohabitate with an animal in your house. Here are some things I looked into and what i can recommend; - do your research about your dog. know them. - Follow Pack Leader dogs on Instagram. Found it randomly and I have learned SO MUCH from him! - Read the book 'Be the pack leader'. Great stuff! - YouTube Cesar Millan on Ed Mylett's show titled "you can do whatever you want!" - I read books on what dogs hear and how they interpret sound - very interesting. There's music out there to help block noises outside if you have a barker (YouTube) - Like anything you're trying to learn, it takes patience and time. Research. Get educated. I've been to PosiDog for their reliable recall class and I wasn't sure what to expect in a short class. The instructor was great, she made sure dogs did not greet each other and made the class fun! My only hangup is that the class by nature is too short to build up proper skills. We learned the basics but it never translated to how to take it outside of the training center. I hope they have an advanced recall class that takes it elsewhere to build a bombproof recall, but for a foundation class this was a great experience and I'll be back. read more

We did PosiDog's 6 week puppy training course. The facility is bright, super clean and very fun for doggies. (It even has foam flooring for good dog traction and safe play.) I loved that most classes are on a flex schedule, so that you don't have to pay when you need to miss. Costs are reasonable. They also offer classes like agility, Leash Reactivity Rehab and adult behavior training. Each class included several basic lessons, time to practice and of course time to play and let puppies get socialized in a safe environment, which really helped my dog. Training centers around always using positive reinforcement for your dog. Much of what we got out of the class was just understanding how a pup's mind works -- owners need just as much training! One of the other benefits I didn't think about needing was was the "homework" and materials they provided after each class. It helped us remember what we were practicing and how to do it right. Every sheet talks about managing the situation as well as your dog, to get the best possible results. It is the best material I have found out there that is consistent with always using positive reinforcers for dogs, after scouring the internet without finding anything similar. All staff members are super patient and helpful. They are always willing to stay after class to consult on different behavior questions you have with your pup. I wish I had read these reviews prior to working with PosiDog Canine Learning Center. The Center's operation is not consumer friendly, responsive, or business smart. They do not respond to email and phone contacts. They did not send necessary class information as as promised repeatedly. Their trainign model and feedback are not effective. For their Humane Society recommendation and the cost of the class, I assumed caring and competence. I did not experience either. We love our experience at PosiDog! We have learned so much on how to train our puppy in a positive way and are so thankful for the willingness to help with additional needs once class is over. Puppy play time is a blast! We wish that PosiDog would facilitate a puppy play time outside of class because of the fun and safe environment they have going on! Signed up my 10 week old puppy for the Puppy II classes on the recommendation of our vet. The classes consisted mostly of lecturing while each of the 12 or so puppies in the class had to be made happy by giving them treats. It was pretty impossible for me to even listen because I was busy trying to keep my dog under control. When my dog would bark or move around too much a helper would come over with another type of food to give her. If my dog started jumping and nipping (throwing a little tantrum) The instructor just ignored us instead of helping and showing me how to deal with it. The dogs would get one or two small lessons during an hour long session. They would also get about 2 minutes of interaction time with other dogs. The interaction was the main reason for wanting to take my dog. There was just so little of it it wasn't worth it. I stopped going after 3 lessons (bought 5). The all-positive training method did not work at all for our dog. She got so overly hyped up by all of the food that she could not focus. And like other reviewers have said there are times when distraction just doesn't work. Since we have switched to trainer that uses a non-food based method things have gone much better. I highly recommend finding a trainer to work with one on one. A lesson will cost more but the value is so much higher. I got more out of a single one hour session than I would have gotten from 20 PosiDog classes. read more

I took my dog, Oscar, to their aggressive and reactive dog training and it was the best money I ever spent. When Oscar was young he would get so upset by strangers that he would shake, bark so hard he couldn't breathe, fall on the ground, throw himself so recklessly against fences and windows he'd hurt himself. There were a lot of tears while I went through trainer after trainer, none of whom helped and some of whom made it worse. I took him to Posidogs and they rated him as low aggression but "the highest reactivity I think I've ever seen." ): Their method seemed odd at first, and a few people dropped out simply because they were uncomfortable, but I saw results by my second class. I will say they were a little disorganized. I was never sure who to contact, when or how, but that's animal people for you. They're just too focused on the dogs. This is all to say Oscar has been sitting in the bedroom window watching a group of kids sled next door. Occasionally he lets out a disapproving "hrumph" but he doesn't actually seem to care too much. He just lost interest to come sit on my lap. I can't thank PosiDog enough. I took my pup there for training. My pup had started the annoying barking. I had asked the trainer how to stop my pup from barking. She told me she didn't have the time to address this issue. Later in the class we had puppy play time. When the pups got together, my pup started barking. At which time the trainer asked us to leave. It was very embarrassing and unprofessional. We had paid a lot for guidance on how to train our puppy and was treated with disrespect. I did ask for a refund of our money and it was given back with no push back. However, it seemed to us, if your pup had no issues, they would "train" your pup. But, if your pup had any behavioral issue, they would rather not deal with your pup. read more

I've been to 3 sessions of puppy class and haven't really figured out how it is helping me or my puppy. It seemed like we stepped into the middle of a cycle of the classes and aren't really learning the basics, IMHO, that a puppy needs. Also, there is very limited and controlled interaction of the puppies at playtime. I'm of the mind that pups should be pups when playing unless it is overly aggressive. I agree with Jacob regarding the rude and unprofessional staff. They will chastise you in front of the whole class even if you are trying to follow their poor, vague directions. You will give your dog "lots and lots"of treats to teach them basic behaviors that can be taught with love as a reward. The space is cavernous and it is very difficult to hear the instructor. There is very little socialization and play time..I'd estimate a total of 5 minutes of the hour. I never felt welcome or safe with these mean teachers. There is no individualized instruction. Every puppy is treated the same. If your puppy over barks, you will be shamed out the room. It was not surprising to me that over the 6 weeks that I attended, only a few dogs and owners continued to return. I suspect there are a lot of drop outs. Save your money and buy a copy of "how to be your dogs best friend" by the monks of new saint. It will teach you how to train your dog with love and respect. Avoid these mean angry trainers and save yourself from being humiliated like you are back in middle school read more

We went to Posidog for five years, starting with beginning obedience and then many years of agility classes. Our dog is a rescue, so he was extremely nervous when we first got him. He has made AMAZING strides thanks in no small part to Posidog (especially Kristen, who is absolutely wonderful). His confidence and personality have just blossomed with the positive reinforcement training and skills he has learned there. They were also extremely accommodating of him and his issues. For example, in their old building (a warehouse in Grove City) the air conditioners would come on periodically and our dog would be terrified of the noise. So, they would prepare by cranking the AC in the hour or so before our class and then turn it off during class so it wouldn't be a problem for him. Thus, we could focus on training rather than convincing him the AC monsters were not coming to eat him. The trainers really know their stuff about dog training, and they are constantly doing things to keep learning and stay current. They send their trainers to seminars with expert trainers, vets, and scientists, and they bring many of those same people to Columbus to give seminars and classes. They also just really, really care about dogs. We recently moved to a different state and we are already mourning having to leave Posidog and all our wonderful friends there. I cannot recommend them strongly enough for their obedience and agility classes. read more

I came to Posidog a week into first-time dog ownership with a 3.5 month old puppy that was both shy and excited about various aspects of the world at the same time. It's now almost six months later and the strides she has made with the help of several Posidog trainers have been fantastic. I echo the comments from other reviewers who say that entry into New Beginnings puppy class is chaotic at best. The classes have rolling enrollments with no set start or end date--you pick up on what they are doing that week and are along for an 8 week ride. I was confused and frustrated at first, but staying after class helped. The best thing they could do is devote 15 minutes before or after your first class to show you the ropes so you aren't paddling as hard upstream. This model does have benefits, however--we could switch class times due to my conflicts on a week-to-week basis. We eventually settled on a weekday afternoon class with Chad (thanks to a flexible work schedule) that was smaller, allowing for more attention. Kristen has been the best trainer so far--patient and willing to work with individual issues. They will also offer 1-on-1 sessions if you need extra help. One session made huge strides in technique for the dog and I. It's said that teachers like myself are the worst students. Posidog helped me and my dog! read more

First of all, they don't like dogs--so, you have to be willing to deal with the same personalities as someone who breaks a wild horses spirit would have... (mean) I honestly cringe when the lady comes near my dog. I hate it here... My dog loves it! So, all of a sudden when we come through the door my dog's ego is on 10--he knows this place is all about him... but, the dogs are absolutely not allowed to socialize, to greet one another or to interact in any kind of way... the people who work here will yell at you and that's after they have convinced you that your dog is bad and inferior... for anyone who is successful enough in life to afford this place--you need the ego of a prisoner to keep showing up for 12 weeks... it's so boring... you can't hear anything she's saying because Ms Ivy League dog trainer doesn't know how to use a headset/microphone... they don't tell you why you are doing this exercise... for example... you put dog food in both fists and if the dog doesn't try to eat from your right hand then, feed them from your left hand... WTF why?!? I mean at home when we are eating--I give my dog a treat so, that he understands he can't have our food... is that the concept? I will never know... I have seen so many people only show up to only one or two classes... their retention rate is like 1 out of 6... (& those people who stay come in pairs like it's date night for them) if I was into wasting money--I would've quit a long time ago!!! But, no one is going to intimidate me or my perfect dog!!! If they don't like us, if they think they are better than us, if they hate dogs--idgaf cause I'm coming back--I don't waste money... $275 upfront for 12 classes... you can roll up in a Maybach and they are going to make you their bish... like they talk to you like they are a drill sergeant instead of a normal respectful tone--please stand over here would do... (They for sure have never considered a safety plan...) but actually it's normal people coming here who can save their money by watching videos on YouTube and training your dog at home in a setting where they feel normal... the people at the dog park are so nice--train your dog there... my dog has a really short attention span so, even on the good days we've had since Ms Ivy League dog trainer realized she couldn't get rid us--one hour is too much... prepare to pay $20/week for treats... bring 4-5 different treats because your dog gets full! Yes, the dog wants to stop getting treats because the place is so boring and repetitive and it's just too much! My dog stops eating... imagine that!!! Most of the stuff written on the website it not even true... they don't offer Adult 2 classes... they don't offer good citizen training... your dog can not get certified here... it's hot in there... there's piss all over the floors... if you hate yourself--go try it out! read more

We love PosiDog! We've taken Family Dog 1, Beginner Scent Detection, and Reactive Dog 2 (when we learned that our rescue dog Penny still needed a bit more acclimation to being close to other doggies before moving onto Family Dog 2). Emily, Chad, and Reagan were all awesome! My boyfriend I learned real strategies that we could practice on our own and work with our dog and continue to do so even when we are not in classes. Yes, you give your dog lots of treats, especially in the early stages of training. This place is firmly in the camp of only positive rewards for doing the behavior (hence the "posi!"). We used many of these classes as a starting point for our dog. We needed to give our dog a lot of treats when she was just learning how to walk politely on a leash but we made amazing progress even during the short 3-week module. We were able to lower the amount of treats overtime once that module was over and with some occasional maintenance training and rewarding the behaviors we find acceptable. The modules, in family dog and reactive dog, are for you to learn the basics of training your dog. I will say the rolling enrollment of the family dog series can be a little intimidating because you jump in with others who may have done 1-3 other modules and may feel a lot more "advanced" than you but the instructors are really friendly and able to answer questions. The location is also a bit difficult to find and is in a warehouse area so give yourself a little bit of time to find it the first time you head over. read more

Love Posidog. As most people know, dog training is less about the dog and more about educating the guardian(s). Posidog's puppy training and distance obedience courses armed me with a better understanding of how my dog's brain works and honestly has empowered me to continue to help him grow over the last 18 months. The playtime at the end of puppy class helped me learn what natural, normal puppy play looks like and also gave him the opportunity to learn some puppy social cues early on in a non-threatening setting. It has made dog park days, choosing a daycare, and walks that much easier. While my dog learned many of his skills and 'tricks' during his Posidog class enrollment, I have been able to continue teaching him new things using the foundation they provided. Posidog cares about the craft and their skill and professionalism is exemplified in their ownership of their own pets. I can't recommend them enough. read more

I have kind of mixed feelings about Posidog. I loved that they offered a kong with high quality dog food to keep our puppy busy during instructional parts of class. My dog went through it quickly and become restless and all we had to do was go talk to someone up front to get another one. Same with a lick jar for puppy play time. Their treats and lures were unmatched and I loved that it wasn't on me to bring all that with me in addition to all our other puppy gear. I also appreciated the flexibility in scheduling and no registration, but it causes problems when it comes to one-on-one help and attention. Here's what happened with us: I brought our 3-5 month old puppy for classes (start them early they said! Desensitize them they said!). Mixed in with useful training (sit, roll over) was trivial stuff: here's how to teach your dog tug, here's how to have your dog touch someone, etc. For a timid dog, this would be great. For my puppy who just wanted to play and meet some puppies (and me who wanted some structure and mental stimulation for my high-energy pup), I don't think this was the best fit. Although puppy classes do have puppy play time, it is woefully short (about 15-20 minutes of class) and high anxiety-making. Instead of the dogs figuring it out, there was many collar grabs to stop what could end up being something, meaning the dogs never ended up really getting to get energy out or learn to play together. The trainers couldn't decide if my dog was timid, needing to go in the quieter room (where she would end up being the model dog where really timid dogs could sniff her but as soon as they got too scared (and my dog thought they were ready to play), I had to collar grab her) or the active room (where the dogs would be way beyond where she was activity wise). There was unfortunately no in between. I usually left our classes (we took Puppy I and Puppy 2, 12 classes in all) feeling like my dog would never learn and that she was a bad dog (most of the time, I saw the more timid dogs getting the attention from our instructor). Speaking of instructors, I was really sad and sometimes upset that our instructor did not know our dog's name. For 11 classes. I will say that when I had really had enough after class 11, I went up to the instructor during a break and voiced my frustrations (about not getting any direction or one on one instruction, about how my dog never seemed to get put into a group for play time where she was successful, etc.) and the instructor took quick action to rectify our needs and give us more attention (and at class 12, I was delighted when she said "this is G, right?". Unfortunately, it was just too little too late for me, since it was time to decide whether to reup our package or sign up for a different class. We chose to take classes elsewhere (and really love it, message me if you want to know where) and were happy with that decision. Posidog meant well, but wasn't a great fit for us. read more

I can't speak for any of the agility or adult classes but we were done after 3 of the 8 sessions of puppy classes at Posidog. The classes were repetitive. We did the same thing every week, except one time we spent 45 min watching a PowerPoint on nail clipping (which wasn't helpful). The playtime was run ineffectively. My dog was shy to play so they stuck him with two other shy dogs (because that makes sense?).. When they finally began to play the trainer made me pick up my dog after two seconds to practice getting him used to me grabbing his collar.. That's great and all for a puppy that was loving play time, but for one that was having trouble that's not quite positive reinforcement. I started taking him to the dog park and he was perfectly social after two times of unstructured play. My final straw was when I stayed after to ask a trainer for advice on crate training, my puppy was having a hard time. Mind you, if you google "tips for crate training" you can find plenty of suggestions... Which I had done, but I figured asking the people that I'm paying to help me would be a good idea too. What was posidogs suggestion? "Sounds like he has separation anxiety, you should contact this behavior specialist at OSU so you can get him medicated". Are you kidding me?? Your suggestion was to pay another $100+ to see a behavior specialist because you have some kind of partnership with them so I could MEDICATE my four month old puppy????? I tried the googled suggestions and talked to a friend who's dad is a trainer and within a week he was comfortable in his crate. Completely unprofessional. A few members of the staff were condescending to myself and others on multiple occasions. I have nothing positive to say about this place except that my dog loved the kongs they give out to keep them busy. If you're going to spend the money on puppy classes, go anywhere else.. Utilize the internet, socialize your dog by taking them out in public, ask your friends who have had dogs for help... Any of those would be more helpful and much cheaper than taking your puppy to PosiDog. read more

Tl;dr: good place, dogs love it, could work on their people skills, very serious about not using any kind of punishment (correction collars, verbal corrections, etc). I've been to three different classes (puppy class, tricks, and polite greetings) at PosiDog, and I plan on coming back for more. If you know much of anything about dog training, you know there are a lot of controversies and various camps about what methods are useful and/or humane for dog training. PosiDog is probably the most extreme "positive only" place I've seen: NO corrections are used or allowed, and there's a lot of emphasis on making sure the dog feels safe and is enjoying the learning experience. Don't bother going here if you are set on using a prong collar or Milan's weird poking corrections! This can be great for the dogs. I've watched training classes at other facilities that are filled with yelping dogs, miserable dogs, shut-down dogs that just want to get the hell out, and you will NOT see that at PosiDog. On the other hand, it's like the "slow food" movement - training without any punishment whatsoever can take a bit longer in the initial stages IMO, and it takes more effort to manage the environment so the dog can succeed. If you aren't wiling to put the work into building a positive, force-free relationship with your dog, you won't be happy with PosiDog. If you ARE willing to put the work in - if you like the idea of having your dog listen to you because he WANTS to and not because he's afraid of what you'll do if he doesn't listen - you will probably love PosiDog. They put a ton of effort into finding the best methods to get the behavior you want from the dog while remaining force-free. They work hard to make the environment such that the dog can be successful, e.g. using barriers so the dog is less distracted in class. They get in great seminars from experts in force-free dog training, and all of the trainers that I've met (and I've met at LEAST five here) are really dedicated to making training work for your dog. The people part of the training is a work in progress, IMO. I might be a bit unusual here because I previously worked with a trainer in Wisconsin who, while we disagreed about some of the methods, had FANTASTIC people skills. She had enthusiasm in truckloads, every person walking in the door felt like a rock star, and she had a great talent for knowing when to step in, when to let the person work it out, how to phrase things so the person could learn without feeling stupid, and how to succinctly answer a question in a helpful way. The trainers at PosiDog aren't bad, per se, but they aren't particularly good in this area either. They can sometimes get sidetracked by method. I once saw a couple ask how to handle their puppy jumping on the couch (Dad wanted to say "No"); instead of the trainer giving a few useful alternatives for the actual situation - like "ask the puppy to get down on the floor" - the puppy owners got a five minute lecture on why saying "no" is bad and how to train some self-control exercises. Um, great in the long run, but right now they just need the puppy off the couch lol! I would say most of the trainers at PosiDog got in to this business because they love the dogs, not because they enjoy people so very much; they vary a bit in their people-handling skills. All that said - it's still the best positive dog training facility in Ohio. If you want to leave the pinch collars behind, come to PosiDog! :) read more

Posidog has been a great experience for us and will continue to be. We recently took our corgi puppy through the 8 week puppy bootcamp, and she showed great improvement every week. I attended a training class at Posidog with my friend a few months back, who wanted help with her large-ish and overactive dog. Since it wasn't my dog, I was more of an observer and less involved with the hands-on training. But I was not overly impressed with what I observed. I myself have bred and trained dogs, and I know there are many methods for improving canine behavior. It is something at least to be discussed. But the Posidog people were very set in specific methods, and were downright condecending to my friend when she talked about other training methods she'd tried. The odd pandering manner of some of the trainers is what really stuck out for me, out of the whole experience. Baby talk is not appropriate to use on dogs in a training setting, and CERTAINLY not appropriate to use on the grown (paying) customers. I don't recall names, but several were notably insulting. I will say, the facilities were clean and well-lit, and at least one of the trainers seemed to know what she was doing. But that's a bare minimum to expect, hardly comendable for the price. Final thought: NOT worth the rather startling cost, and certainly NOT worth a drive from Dublin. Or Grove City, for that matter. If you want reputable, established trainers, try a reputable, established training center. read more

The staff are very nice but the old storefront's loud and dim setting makes it impossible to train. They have their puppy training in three stages by age. I kind of forgot about that but I was never reminded that this should be my dog's last week and to move on to the level. No one is tracking it. You are totally on your own there. It was a frustrating experience and we only completed 6 of 10 classes. After wasting $150 I found another, much better place for puppy training. read more

My dogs and I have had a wonderful time at PosiDog. I started in the Puppy Class with my youngest dog. He was a bit of a wild puppy but we learned quite a few tricks to get him to settle. The rolling enrollment of puppy class really helped with my hectic schedule. It was nice meeting the different trainers. The building is wonderful; big, colorful, full of things for puppies to explore and build their confidence. I also brought my old man (12 year old, German Shepherd). The staff really listened to what I wanted to get out of classes, mostly just him having fun and eating yummy treats. They adapted exercises for him, and proved to us he could learn new tricks! read more

They were recommended to me by several places after I adopted my dog but I decided not to sign up for classes after my initial visit. I called to try and get some information on the facility and schedule a visit but they seemed very hesitant about answering questions over the phone. Eventually an instructor agreed to meet with me later that day. I wasn't familiar with the area so I left early so I could find the place. I arrived about 10 minutes early but was chastised by the instructor for being too early. After speaking to the instructor and explaining my dogs behavior he seemed very knowledgable and we decided to setup another visit where he could actually meet my dog. This time we setup a 15 minute window for when I would arrive and I was there within that time frame but he commented that I showed way too early again. He then asked if I brought training treats with me and I said no and he looked at me angrily and said, "that was the whole point of you coming here today!" This was never discussed before hand. It was supposed to be a short meet and greet with my dog so they could recommend what class to sign up for. I asked several questions about dog behavior while I was there to at least make the trip worthwhile because I knew I was definitely never coming back. We recently finished the Rowdy an Reactive Class with our Gwen and we are really, really pleased with the results. As I mentioned in my previous review I still cannot say enough nice things about PosiDog. This particular class is expensive for a reason, the planning and set-up takes a lot of work and energy on their part. I don't know a single other training center in Central Ohio that offers a class quite like this. Working with a reactive dog is tricky and if not done properly your reactive dog could easily be made worse if the class isn't set up just right. This is a six week class (plus one week of orientation without your dog) and Gwen really started to make progress in that sixth week, so you have the option of adding on three extra classes for an additional $99 and that made all the difference in the world. My girl once again knows I have her back and we have moved past the traumatic experience that caused her reactivity in the first place. Sara, Chad and Kristen are all wonderful trainers and if you have the opportunity to take a class at PosiDog whether for fun, rehab or prevention I highly recommend it! read more

We took 4 Classes from PosiDog. 3 were a waste of $$ and one (Reactive dog) was excellent. I observed the puppy kindergarten class with a friend and compared to OSU, Anything Goes for Dogs and Adventure Unleashed theirs wasn't even close - total waste of time. read more
