I am very particular when it comes to the health and proper confirmation of my dogs. Having just…read morelost my boxer in his old age I decided on a Boston Terrier, down sizing you could say. I was thoroughly dismayed when I started my search in my area that no one had the proper color or confirmation that is for the Boston Terrier. I found the perfect Boston Puppy at Puppy City in Harrisonburg Va (the sister store to this one in Winchester)! I called and had several questions, the manager Connie answered everything cheerfully while also making sure I knew all the ins and outs of this particular breed. I decided on one certain puppy and Connie held it with a deposit until I could drive the 6 hours to inspect her in person. I could not be more pleased. Staff was very pleasant and helpful, the puppies and their pens were spotless and all were happy and very healthy looking. Staff went over everything with me again on her health, needs etc. I understand the concerns from some people here on where is the puppy from oh my gosh is it a puppy mill dog BUT do your homework. Know what your dog is supposed to look like and behave, go to your own personal vet for a thorough check up, something that PUPPY CITY HIGHLY RECOMMENDS! I have been in the dog world for a long long time, I have fostered for several years and I have been more horrified at back yard breeders on every corner that are only breeding for fancy colors and the rare color/looks and could care less about health and don't give a crap about where their puppy is going as long as you have the cash. That isn't every breeder just like this store isn't like every other store that sells puppies, kittens, rats, reptiles....you get the point. These people do care - FYI, if one of the staff says a puppy is too stressed out at this time to come play then suck it up. Come back another day if you are truly interested in the puppy. The staff actually cares about the well being of the puppy and not your feelings. Having just come back from the initial check from my personal vet who also gave 2 thumbs up for her health and general good looks, I couldn't be happier. She is everything I had hoped for and could not find locally. I can't say enough about the staff and cleanliness of Puppy City as well.

My younger dog had no issues going in, but came out and I found a FLEA on his back while he was looking out the car window and later a tick on his foot! Our second bigger dog, though his haircut was phenomenal, the staff did not listen to me. I informed them at drop off I found 3 small ticks on him if he could get a flea and tick. Get home, start cleaning the house and found more larvae ticks. Called them to let them know something weird was going on and was told he had already been bathed but couldnt say if he got flea and tick. Pick him up, informed he did not get flea and tick cause nothing was seen, mind you he has long shaggy hair. Get in the car and immediately find 3 on his shaved belly, one on his belly attached. This spot later bullseyed and he is now on antibiotics for limes disease. tried to call the store twice within their business hours and nobody ever answered. DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE. Speculation, there is some kind of infestation going on. I had to give both of my dogs flea/tick baths.

Upon enter this store we saw some dog toys and then passed by the self dog wash station and a grooming area. We then made our way to the dog food area but weren't able to find a specific company brand we were looking for. We decided to get some dog snacks and made our way to the cashier. There was only one cashier in duty and the line was small at first but then gradually got to atleast 5 people waiting. All in all, an ok place to stop by and have a look around if you have time.

I am not someone who typically leaves a negative review without first giving the business an…read moreopportunity to address the problem. As a business owner myself, I know how frustrating it is to be blindsided by a bad review when you were never given the chance to correct the situation. That is exactly why I contacted the store manager before writing this. I have taken my dogs to various PetSmart grooming locations for years and have generally had good experiences. I have three doodles with very different coats, so I am also very familiar with grooming, brushing, and matting. This visit was for my smallest dog, who weighs only 3.3 pounds and has very little hair. I primarily brought her in to have her nails ground and decided to add a bath and brush. When I arrived, I was offered additional grooming services, including approximately $20 to trim around her face, which I declined because that is something I can easily do myself. The groomer, Kaylee, checked her coat and agreed there really wasn't much there in terms of matting. I completely understand that a groomer can sometimes discover a mat once they begin working. However, when I checked out, I discovered an additional $10 de-matting charge on my bill. No one mentioned the charge beforehand, called me for authorization, or even told me about it at checkout. This dog is 3.3 pounds and takes me less than two minutes to brush from head to toe, even if I find a tangles. Brushing was already included in the service I purchased. Had someone contacted me and said additional de-matting was necessary and would cost extra, I would have declined it. The amount is only $10. The issue is not the money; it is the principle of adding a service and charge without asking me first. Unfortunately, that wasn't the end of the experience. After getting my dog back, I was petting her and found a flea on her. My dogs and cats do not have fleas. I understand that PetSmart deals with animals all day long and that an occasional flea can make its way into a grooming environment. I wasn't expecting anyone to claim that could never happen. I simply wanted the store to be aware so they could check the grooming area and address it if necessary. Instead, I ended up spending another approximately $40 at PetSmart on flea treatment because I wasn't willing to risk bringing a flea problem home to my other animals. Before posting this review, I called the store manager specifically to explain what happened. I was not asking for a refund, free services, or a discount. I wanted her to know about the unauthorized charge and the flea so the issues could be addressed. What disappointed me most was the response. Rather than acknowledging my concerns, the manager told me there was essentially no way the flea could have come from their grooming area because they disinfect after every animal. I understand that they have cleaning procedures, but saying it is impossible for a flea to be present in a facility where numerous animals are groomed every day is difficult for me to accept. Instead of simply saying, "Thank you for letting us know; we'll check into it," I felt as though the responsibility was immediately pushed back onto me. The same thing happened with the de-matting charge. Rather than acknowledging that I should have been informed before an additional service was performed and added to my bill, the charge was defended. I was told that none of her groomers ever overcharge for services. That is ultimately why I am leaving this review. Mistakes and unexpected situations happen in every business. What matters to me is how a business responds when a customer brings a legitimate concern to its attention. I gave this location the opportunity to address my concerns privately before posting anything publicly. I wasn't asking them to give me money back--I was asking them to listen, take responsibility where appropriate, and make sure the same thing doesn't happen again. Just fix the problem so it doesn't happen again and to protect other animals for unwanted fleas. Unfortunately, I left that conversation feeling that this location was more interested in explaining why nothing could possibly have been their responsibility than in addressing the concerns of a longtime PetSmart customer. My advice to anyone using grooming at this particular location is to review your bill carefully and make it clear that you do not authorize any additional services or charges without being contacted first. And if you do have a problem, based on my experience, don't assume management will be receptive to hearing about it. I have had good experiences with other PetSmart locations over the years. This review is specifically about my experience with this location and, more importantly, how management handled the situation when I tried to address it directly.

I have never seen that many feeder fish in such a small tank. Yes, I realize store typically pack fish into a tank but this was beyond that. She was not sick. 2 Assistants took Cece to work on her. Paola and Darya, assistants... One of the assistants said they had never done a Lion Cut. (I should have turned around and left.) After 90 minutes and several times we heard the cat screaming, they brought her out COMPLETELY shaved down to her skin (except her head), Cece had quite a few bloody nicks all over her body and tail. None of these cuts were cleaned or was she given an antibiotic. (With a 3rd-level cut; 10 mm of fur should have been left on. Cece was too old to have such a Traumatic experience. After all of this, the Vet wanted to have tests done. When the tests came back, the Vet said she would only live a week! And wanted to euthanize Cece, REALLY? She wasn't sick when I took her in. I had taken Cece in last November, and the Vet who saw her last year would only do clippings, as he said she was too old to do any more. When I took Cece home on July 29th of this year, she was never the same and lasted another 3 weeks. Cece did not deserve to die this way. I WILL NEVER USE PLAZA PET CLINIC AGAIN. The assistants should be fired if they don't know what they're doing. We love our pets, and there's no reason ever to put them through HELL because of assistants who lack the necessary skills when working with our precious pets. One other thing: I went back into the Clinic to speak with either the Hospital manager or a Vet. Of course, they were at lunch and said they would get back to me. THEY DID NOT CONTACT ME. I WILL NEVER USE PLAZA PET CLINIC AGAIN.
