Would give this place 0 stars if I could. What's the point of making an appointment if they're going to make you wait an hour anyway? All the employees seem like they don't wanna be here, they jack up the prices, and the place is totally unclean. I can't think of a single redeeming quality that this photo studio has. At this rate you're better off going to your local sears, or buying a backdrop and getting a friend to take your photos. Get your senior portraits / family photos done somewhere that actually values their customer's time and money. Edit: left without getting portrait done. Went today for holiday pics with my sister's family and my son. (4 kids total, with 2 of them being toddlers). We had an appt for 11. First picture was taken at 1140a. The photographer was rushing us! we wanted a picture of the 4 kids not in front of the snowy backdrop and she told us that we would need to go to another room. And i was like ok let's go to another room. Is it another charge? Like idc we are already there and the picture was planned for grandma's gift to hang up all year round. So with resistance the backdrop was easily switched in the SAME room. Magically! The kids pics looked uncomfortable. So i suggested to take pics of them just being kids. In the end we weren't happy with the option of the pictures. The 11yr old was slouching in the group pics, so we had to pick that pic bc it was the only group pics we took. She could've easily asked him to sit up straight! Then the choosing of the pics and the printing took another 1.5hr or so. The whole event was a 3 hour process. With barely any seating. Horrible! They need to not overbook appointments, have the photographers be patient and also fix things that they see wrong in the pics. Like a slouching kid. Stopped in today for some last minute Christmas card photos. There was a mix-up apparently with our appointment (which was scheduled online) and for some reason was not in the system. Even on a busy Saturday, they still managed to squeeze us in within the hour. Wait time was average for an establishment like this and certainly WAY better than what you will experience at the mall. Our photographer Tyler was very friendly and professional and best of all - he took amazing photos! [Edited due to updated resolution from this studio]. My group had a great actual studio experience here. The photographer was very friendly, accommodating and took good shots. The sheet prints from the studio come out crisp and sharp. However, buying the "high-resolution" photo CD feels like a total scam, and the customer experience is extremely unsettling. This review primarily revolves around a higher-level, corporate problem with Portrait Innovations. I agreed to buy a very expensive package in order to obtain a high-resolution image CD (which I was advised by the studio to buy in order to get the print size I needed that Portrait Innovations didn't offer), but ended up feeling swindled and deceived once I received the CD. All the photos in the "Purchases Images" folder were blurry and low-quality. I checked in Photoshop to see if they were the 300dpi "hi-res" standard of today, and was shocked to discover that they were only a 96dpi resolution level blown up to large dimensions, hence the unprintable quality. They were unusable. First I contacted the studio thinking this must be a mistake, but was told that 72dpi (web standard -- the lowest res you can go) is their standard. So I contacted corporate customer service to explain that my receipt says "High Resolution CD of Purchased Poses" yet I received low-resolution images. Instead of receiving assistance or even just recognizing this as an error on the part of Portrait Innovations, I was ignorantly told that 96dpi is the high-resolution standard...which is not right. You don't tell a customer they're buying a photo calendar and then produce photo mouse pads for them and play it off as the same thing. Likewise, you cannot sell customers "high-resolution" CD packages and deliver them low-resolution CDs. Again, this Clifton studio itself -- the photographer we had and their sheet prints -- are good. And in the end, after aggressively complaining to corporate enough, this studio did ultimately send me the hi-res images I paid for, which I'm grateful for. But I can't imagine how many people (especially without the digital photography background to know how to explain how unprofessional this is) are ripped off by this. As an overarching business practice, Portrait Innovations should not be tricking customers into buying $297+ packages in order obtain a high-resolution CD of low-resolution, poor quality, unprintable images. They need to take accountability. read more

Not the greatest experience I've ever had with a photo studio. Booking the appointment went well. Upon arriving we were informed that they were short one photographer so there was a bit of a wait, about 30 minutes, I was cool with that. When my photographer (Michelle) introduced herself, she didn't ask any questions (what type of photos, or even what the photos were for). The poses were bland, generic, uninspired - turn this way, click click click...turn that way, click click click. Though she wasn't rude or nasty, she showed no personality, engagement or enthusiasm. Maybe she was having a bad day (happens to all of us right?) The pictures were just meh. I needed digital photos more than the actual prints, but they push you into purchasing these expensive packages just to get the cd. She didn't explain any package options, nor did she ask what I wanted. She just clicked on different items (calendars, books & such), and created an exorbitant photo package full of things I didn't even want. I felt rushed the entire time, like she just wanted to get rid of me. Once we narrowed the package down to stuff I could actually use, the price was more than I wanted to pay but at least at this point I didn't feel like I was being ripped off. I need graduation pictures in June but I won't be going back there. I'd rather find a photographer that's more interactive, professional, engaging, and at least acts like they want to be there. read more

I went to Portrait Innovations after taking pictures with Picture People and not liking most of the pictures (This is was not my fist time visiting Portrait Innovations). I really dislike Picture People have relocated to inside Buy Buy Babies. I wish Portrait Innovation had better hours and more locations. The company should consider expanding. Overall I was happy with the staff's patience particularly after I arrived late to my appointment and stayed after closing waiting for my prints. I would like to highlight Rania and Lucy who were great. Lucy helped ensure my essential details weren't overlooked and help keeping my daughter smile. Last but not least, Rania was extremely patience while taking the pictures. She allowed me to do a wardrobe change although we started our session late and she was also patience with my boyfriend and I as we took long picking our favorite pictures. Jesus and Angel were also helpful when It came to check out. This location (Clifton, NJ) was clean and the studio allows for the children to have a little of privacy while being photographed. I did not give them five stars because the CD did not work so I had to back a few days later for another CD. I wish this company would give parents access to all their chosen/favorite pictures online even if its for an extra cost. read more

We had an appointment but it was not honored. We were waiting over 1 hour in Clifton with no explanation of anything. When we asked, we were told that there were 7 families ahead of us and if we didn't wish to wait we could reschedule. After our pictures were taken, we were told to go and pay after which, we were told the machine had broken and we could not get our pictures and had to wait 40 additional minutes to get our pictures. When we got home and opened our envelop, they had put another families package. The following day I called to let them know that the pictures in our envelop belonged to another family. Our appointment at Studio #139 was late in the day and I understood why our session was a bit delayed. Even when we were there a family came in 15 minutes late, and were worked into their slot, what's a business to do? Anyway our photographer Brittany was very patient and did a great job with our little guy, there was an opportunity for a clothing change and several different back drops and different props. Went during a weekday, so didnt have a problem with waiting around.... But, I still felt a little rushed during the shoot. Came here for newborn photos and I got more pictures of my 3 yr old. Honestly, the 2 guys who were doing the shoot were super nice and I thought everything was going very well. The problem came when I got to see the pictures. I literally only liked 1 photo. The guy who was taking photos was new and orienting, so i'm not sure if he even had any skills. The pictures are seriously terrible. Somehow I walked away spending close to $160 and hating all but 1 picture. I probably could say something and get my money back or even retake the pictures, but i'm not going back to do that with a newborn and 3 yr old....once is torture enough. Took my daughters and my wife for a Xmass picture. When the photographer started the session the front desk lady came with another family who stood there watching us waiting for their turn. In a minute the pesky and rude lady along with the client started pressuring the photographer to hurry up and then literally walked in the room with her group half way through. The photos are adequate, but this place is the WORST for keeping to a schedule. Unless you are the first appointment when they open at 9 am, there is no way you will keep your appointed time. It happens every time, and we're stupid enough to keep coming back. Today is a great example. We had a 9:30 appointment on a Sunday for some communion photos. We arrived on time, but had to chase someone down to simply check us in. It's now 10:20, and we're still waiting for the 9 am appointments to finish their photos, let alone select them. The two sessions ahead of us were a large family and a dancer with - no joke - six costume changes. Their allotted time was a half hour, and we're going on an hour and a half. I get that some photo sessions will take longer than others, but this place NEVER schedules appropriately. If you're dead set on coming here, just know that you will be waiting an unreasonable amount of time. And forget about getting Christmas photos. The staff are pleasant enough, but this company has absolutely no regard for your time. read more

She saw what my concern was and said she was sorry for the issue and it would be taken care of and they will ship to me no charge. I was in and out in under 5 minutes. This place is a little bit of a mess. Trying to get a family photo for Christmas postcards, me and the family tried this place one chaotic night. After waiting 30-40 minutes after our appointment, our photographer was ready for us. He had no imagination and kept asking for our ideas. I don't go to a photography business with a personal portfolio-I expect them to help us with creative/memorable poses. When all was said and done, many pictures were dark because he used the wrong type of flash, it seemed. The next day when I went to see if the pictures could be touched up by lightening them another photographer felt that he seemed to use a flash meant for another type of pose. Going to have them lightened was another fiasco that absorbed 1 and 1/2 hrs., of my workday! They gave us the photo cards for free which was nice but sent us out the door with too few envelopes-shorted me 80 to be precise since we have 100 photo cards. Have decided not to go back and have the other pictures lightened for the larger exposures. Lightening them just starts to wash out the colors. The problem - the photographer should have taken them correctly in the first place. Not happy with the outcome and probably won't give them another chance to get it right. There are plenty of other more professional and well-priced places to go to. read more

My photographer was very nice & helpful she tickled my son till he cracked a smile so in most of the pictures he was smiling really hard which is what I wanted! Now the pricing is a little over priced I should say but I couldn't help & get many photos of my son he looked too cute! But next time I will head to jcpennys or something, because paying close to $300 for pictures is a little ridiculous but I can't complain they came out wonderful read more

I've been using Portrait Innovation since I gave birth to my first son in 2013! The first time I went I chose the New Brunswick location which was amazing! I was so happy with my son's baby pictures although they were a tad bit expensive ($150)! Getting the package with the "extras" (2 big calendars, special effect pics, 2 soft books, 1 hard cover book, & 2 discs) made the amount sit a little better with me. Being that I was pleased with the pics I recommended them to EVERYBODY & even went back myself! My second visit I went to the Clifton location since it was closer to my home! The young lady that took my son's pics was amazing and had the cutest prop personalized for him! Once again the package was pricey, except this time I spent more and got less! So I asked about the package & price difference and was given a generic rehearsed reply! After feeling ripped off I sucked it up & I still paid the $215 and went about my business! I gave birth to my second son in 2015 so of course I needed to have baby pics taken!!! ...being that I felt ripped off I didn't necessarily want to use them again but like a fool I DID! Once again I went to the Clifton location (which I regret) to have the pictures of my boys taken! The photographer yet again did a great job with the pics! However the other staff was rude! In the middle of my boys having their photos taken another photographer comes into the room we're in and pretty much kicks us out saying they needed the room RIGHT NOW so we had to go into another room to finish the session. We finally finished and got to the portrait picking. It started off at $1,000 which I would NEVER pay for studio pics! We got it down to $500 which was still outrageous so I just bottom lined and asked what the cheapest package that included the disc was! I was told the 15 pose package is the lowest if I wanted the disc that could be used anywhere ($350) so I raised my brow and asked how is 350 the lowest when I was just here less than a year ago and I received a package that had a disc and I didn't spend nearly as much! (At this time I didn't remember the exact amounts that I spent previously but I knew for a fact it was much less).. The guy tells me oh you had to have gotten the regular disc that can't be used to print photos other than here EXCUSE ME, SAY WHAT? No one ever mentioned that the discs I received were pretty much useless seeing how I wouldn't dare pay them $20 per sheet! I guess he sensed a hostile moment approaching so he offered 20% pending the ok from the manager. According to him he asked the manager and was told no I needed the coupon, so I asked how do I get the coupon & was told it's only for customers that never came back! WHAT? DOES THAT REALLY MAKE SENSE? YOU'RE WILLING TO GIVE THE DISCOUNT TO PPL THAT DON'T CARE TO COME BACK BUT YOU WON'T DO A ONE TIME DISCOUNT FOR A PERSON THAT HAS BEEN COMING BACK LOYALLY ALTHOUGH THEY KNOW THEY'VE BEEN BEING RIPPED OFF BY YOUR COMPANY FAITHFULLY? ..yeah ok! I guess the photographer wanted to shut me up so he took off $15 and allowed my fiancée to use his military discount. The total still came to $301, had I not fallen in love with the pics they would have stayed right there! Next, I get to the register to pay for the photos and the cashier was extremely rude! He acted as if he preferred not to even acknowledge that I had been standing there for minutes waiting for him! Once he finally acknowledged me he snatched the card and sat it on the counter with the receipt, can we say RUDE?! So I kindly signed and went to put it in his hand (I have home training & manners)! In the midst of me handing it to him a photographer walked up to inform him that a customer had walked out with over $300 worth of pics! I laughed, handed him the receipt, & left out! KARMA! IT WAS AN ISSUE TO GIVE A RETURNING CUSTOMER A DISCOUNT BUT A PERSON THAT HAS NEVER USED YOU GUYS BEFORE AND NEVER WILL WALKED OUT WITH HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS SAVED! Fast forwarding, I finally get home and notice that my costly high resolution disc is missing so I gave them a call! First the guy pretty much said there was nothing he could do about that so I lashed out and his next solution was to call corporate and request a hard copy, so I lashed out AGAIN so that magically made him able to help me in the store! I went to pick my disc and the "extra" items up since it couldn't be mailed and went to print out some pics! CAN WE SAY HORRIBLE QUALITY? THOSE PICTURES ARE THE WORST PICS I've ever seen! I took a look at the calendar and books and those pics are horrible too! I'm beyond unhappy! $300 for what? I decided to dig and pull out the previous extras and they look nothing like what I recently received. Along with the extras I found the previous price sheets, big price & merchandise difference! This place is a joke! My intention was to go in at my scheduled time and get quality photos that can last a life time. Dont get me wrong the photographer had a great personality trying to make my baby laugh however, pictures came out HORRIBLE! I paid over $200 for these pictures and the print were just horrendous. Right away i told them the quality sucked they said they could "fix it" to come back tuesday mind you this was a sunday we took our photos. Now its tuesday and the photos look the same if not worse bc the quailty was enhanced so the blurriness of the photos was more vivd. Not sure if she was just jumping around so much that she couldn't capture a good photo. Everything seem rushed they were over booked! Long store short i asked for a refund they said they dont do refunds unless its the day of photos taken. HOW THE HELL WAS I SUPPOSE TO KNOW THAT WHEN THEY TOLD ME TO COME BACK 2 days AFTER PHOTOS WERE TAKEN. Spoke with a manager and they gave a me voucher credit which takes up to 3 weeks for a CHECK to sent to me. Mind you we are talking over $200! This is just unacceptable! My family has been using this studio for years we take all out family pictures here of over 20 people and they always come out great. They have packages always going on. When my son was born a couple months ago I got his baptism pictures here and they came great! I only spent around 100 and got a lot of pictures and the disk. Photographer refused to show us less expensive packages and/or packages with less poses or products. There is no price list posted anywhere in the store!! I came here for the first time last holiday season to get some pictures of my daughter. Why this place was jam packed is beyond me. The pictures were mediocre. In fact, one of my daughter's 4 year old classmates posted her pictures on facebook and they were exactly the same as my daughter's pictures. Same poses. Same props. No originality. They do exactly the same poses and pictures with every kid. I knew every kid who went to portrait innovations, based on their pictures. I had made a 4:40 appointment and I got there about 10 minutes early. The place was packed with kids and families getting their Christmas pictures taken. I didn't get taken in for my picture until around 6:15. They should not be booking all of these people if they cannot handle it! A call ahead of time would at least be helpful. I felt terrible for all of the crying kids and babies who had to wait hours to get their pictures taken. Despite the time problem, my pictures did come out nice and the workers were nice. read more

Let me start off with the two photographers we dealt with were amazing! Didn't catch their names but they were both guys. They were really good with our boys and took great pictures of them even accommodated is with taking a few pictures after since my baby was really serious the first few shots. Now, the one who showed us the pictures, didn't catch her name either was a female. As we are going through the pictures she decides to comment that my son looks "high" in that picture. Mind you he's 5. He came out with his eyes low, but why kind of professional establishment has their workers tell their clients their child looks high?! I held myself from saying something extremely rude to her. On top of all that, their printer wasn't working so it's kind of an inconvenience to have to go BACK to pick up the pictures that should've been given the day of the pictures. At least offer a discount for the inconvenience or call customers ahead of time to let them know. They said it would be a week or two to receive the pictures. Third, their prices are a little ridiculous, let's be honest. I went in there thinking about getting their "special" of $29.99 and came out paying over $100 because of the way their packages are done. They should put their packages online so people are fully aware what they are walking into. I had called the day prior too and the guy who answered, sounded like an older white male, was very rude over the phone I called specifically to ask about packages and he answered rudely "well what kind of package do you want" Don't think I will be recommending anyone here.
